I always liked your comments about the bookcases in the tour of the Thorsen House that Marc recorded in 2013. A big G&G bookcase project might be perfect for the new saw.

Congrats, Mr. Peart... you lucky devil! 🙂 Kidding aside, I'm very glad for you; those two machines alone bespeak of a great amount of hard work and long hours plying your craft, to be able to afford such amenities. Many happy rips on large sheets, and thick chunks of live edge lumber! 🙂

We got the Hammer K3 at about the same time if I recall. I am now looking to upgrade to a Felder with at least a 98" stroke. Thanks for the great overview.

You're welcome. The K3 was a good saw but I like my K700S so much better. I can't remember the actual stroke on my saw but it's a bit more than 98" - I can load a full sheet of ply and still have room for one of my pneumatic clamps .

Awesome pick - you are definitely going to enjoy that saw. From a Martin owner, the Felder slider is just as smooth and is easier to push than the Martin primarily because it doesn't have the lubricating felt pad. Steve

Thanks, Steve! I learned how to use a slider on a Martin - way back when. For years I judged other sliders to my experience on the Martin. The other always came up short.

What a beautiful saw! I am still relying on my Oliver 232 and 270 saws and a modified Hammond Trim-O-Saw, which is the only slide I have ever had.

Congratulations! I have a K700P. I love it. I have the apx 5' sliding table, slightly shorter than yours. My shop is only 11x15 so the table is about 1/2" from the front wall at full extension, and around 3" on the back. I can't use the outrigger table in there, though because I have an F700z in the way. Agreed about the off/on button position. I don't have them on the end of the slider, but that would be super useful. Just a quick note: that anodized sliding table top scratches super easily. Make sure there are no pin nails or anything else hard in the stock you're loading on to it.
@DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker
@DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker 2 года назад
Thanks, Pete. When I moved into this shop I never thought I would be squeezed for space If I had went for the 10" slider it would have never fit.
@Psychlist1972

For folks thinking of a sliding table saw like this, you can't overstate the importance of the measurements. It's not just about having enough processing room in front, but if you want to ever change the blade, you need to be able to pull the table all the way to the back. Blade change is super easy when you do that, but you need to be able to do it.

Congratz, I have a Holzer 1243 with a 126” stroke looking to sell and down size to an 8’ single phase, I considered trying to get by with a track saw but changed my mind. :). BTW nice to see someone with a slider that knows the value of the butt brace.

Would love to see a demonstration of performing rip cuts on a slider. Maybe a few common widths like 1.5", 3" and 6".
@MrBertstare
@MrBertstare 11 месяцев назад
with the edging shoe getting a straight edge is super easy on rough boards. Doing rips in prepared boards you can use the slider or you can use it like a conventional saw with the fence.

I carefully poured over the specs for the KF 700. I knew I couldn’t fit the outrigger or longer than the 62”(1550 mm) slider. So, track saw still for big sheets on initial breakdowns. From the all the configuration “is this correct?” emails, I think it’s an unusual configuration. February 2024 arrival date.
@DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker
@DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker 8 месяцев назад
The specs on the Felder site do not make things crystal clear. I ordered a larger saw than I had thought I had ordered. I was able to fit it (barely) in my space though and ultimately was glad I ended up with the larger saw. I had a smaller Hammer saw to begin with . You might be able to do as I did - I used the smaller slider (using the outrigger fence) to initially cut sheet stock down to a length to accommodate the slider stroke. For me this covered the majority of my work - only rarely did I have to use other means.

@@DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker So would whomever is in the space next door to your shop...it would have been poking through the wall! LOL BTW, I went with a short stroke this time around for the new shop. It's still just as "wide", but the stroke makes it easier to fit in to the workflow arrangement. I would have been fine with another eight footer, but I can count the number of times I really needed that length for the kinds of things I do the most and there's always the track saw for other situations.
@DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker
@DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker 2 года назад
This is one of those times I think back on when we bought this property. Much of the original shop existed and we added on to it. The builder said no problem to adding on then taking out the walls in-between to create a large open space. When we went to get the building permit - they said no way - all the walls must stay up. If the walls had come down there would have ample room for an even larger saw!

@@DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker Gotta love it when a jurisdiction puts the kibosh on a worthy project like knocking down walls. LOL Probably could have been engineered, but then again, that can get expensive, too. No matter, that spot is great and will let you do your magic with a smile going forward.

Bought that same saw, but with a few nice extras on it, it arrived on January 10th of this year and to this day I still don’t have a complete working saw from Felder. I think that it is irresponsible to demo a saw on video in a dangerous condition like that. Fact is that accidents happen if the operator accidentally drops something on to an unguarded blade. It can fly off like a bullet. Clearly some training needed here.
