Among the early comic books I read were comic books of Felix the Cat(Harvey). Then I saw the 1960s Felix the Cat cartoons. I have a lot of regard for Felix.:-)
I just shake my head that the brilliant Twisted Tales only got one sentence in this. It was the best thing that happened to Felix since the 1920s. That's my ranking for Felix productions: The 1920s silent films were hot stuff, as the animators were clearly having a blast exploring and playing with the new medium. Twisted Tales was fabulous, sometimes trying just a bit too hard, but its finest moments were pitch perfect. The 1950s TV show, I liked as a little kid but in some ways hasn't aged well. And basically everything else I don't care so much about. I do not want to watch Baby Felix or that 1980s Felix movie that gets mocked so mercilessly.
I wish Felix wasn’t just a merchandise cat and Joe wouldn’t have treated the 90s “Twisted Tales of Felix badly! Joe hated the Twisted Tales of Felix yet now Most fans like the 90s version of Felix now, not the 60s version. Personally I think it’s annoying how he didn’t even mention anything about Felix’s silent film 🎥 era! Felix was made for the silent film era 🎞 Felix had 169 silent films yet most are lost forever! 😿 Felix is older than Mickey he could of mention that as of right now Felix is 102 years old since Felix’s debut in year 1919. Back then Fans where confused 🤷♀️ because Felix looked to much like Krazy Kat cartoons. Krazy Kat comics year 1913 and films year 1916 🎥 are forgotten. but older then Felix. So if Felix isn’t the first classic style cartoon I was told what’s the point of watching or preserving silent films 🎥 of Felix. Well I’ll tell you why! Because Felix is still the silent film star!⭐️ Fans hated the Cartoons of Krazy Kat because they where nothing like the comics they’ve grown to love. Felix was for a time not ment to be for kids but a star ⭐️ Felix dealt with hard topics back then people wanted to see because they could relate to Felix. Felix was homeless often, getting kicked out of his human home since Felix was meant to be a pet cat, Felix dealt with couple abuse with Kittykat always treating Felix like dirt, Felix had a drinking problem, but I noticed Felix later stopped drinking in the silent films and comics. Felix learned to get rid of his drinking habits. Felix used to hate having kids yet Felix seems to enjoy spending time with his children. Felix learned to love his children and not be afraid of them anymore. Felix dealt back then with depression yet he still tried to help people even when he was down on his luck. And Felix eventually stopped being married to that abusive wife of his. Felix is a survivor of spouse abuse. Felix’s may not had a magic bag back then but silent film Felix was resourceful sometimes Felix had only had a magic carpet back then or his detachable tail or any magic or tool Felix could get a hold of. But Felix was resourceful. You know they should’ve brought back older characters from the old films in comics like Willy Brown or Danny Doit (wasn’t Felix a pet cat to Danny) or Professor Bop or even Kittykat. I’ve seen Dolly in Felix comics from the film Felix in Toyland. There’s so many Felix characters they brushed under the rug that could of been re-introduced. Felix would of liked to see his old friends 😿
Yeah, it's a bit unfortunate that they priorities the Oriolo ocs. They feel like rejected Rocky and Bullwinkle/Underdog characters tbh. I get why Don tried preserving that vision since it was his father's legacy. Still, sucks they ended up watering down Felix with his magical crutch. Also, I do have to agree that Twisted Tales got screwed over. Though, I don't think it was just Don who caused problems as ratings and network meddling end up doing the show in. I think season 2 is a massive downgrade. Not only due to the music suffering with club Foot Orchestra, but also a lot of the talent that made the first season so good ended up leaving. Plus, I just don't think Charlie Adler makes a very good Felix as much as I love his stuff. He sounds kinda like Jason Marsdon with his performance and that kinda sad. It's just a shame we never got to see a proper season 2 come to fruition with the original production team. Coukd have been something special. Then again the network television scape was rapidly changing around that time so it probably didn't have a chance.
