Nice aim... I get some humor out of watching other channels felling... with many more cuts, often with poor aim.. No one beats a proper Oregon or Washington trained logger for efficiency and accuracy. It is a true pleasure to watch a skilled woodsman at work👌
I have gotten to the point where I just delete people off my Instagram for thinking they know the whole situation of what I'm sharing, and try to tell me how I should have done something that is done.😂 Your a class act August. Thanks for sharing, and sharpening our skills...the ones that pay attention at least.
Thank you for the explanation about heavy pre-tension in order to give you control as you cut the hinge without having to stop and add more tension. Helpful.
Thanks again for the journey with you, Love the Leather Saddle and Suspenders, look forward to seeing that in its completed form, hope the throw bag was just incorrectly stitched too close and leaving no seam that caused it to fail, and its not a whole batch with that fault, yeah, they can be made easily enough. Edited to add, Loved the drop, great to see you both out getting tree stuff done together.
@@opendstudio7141 Yes, some fibers and fabrics can be very slippery, and can lead to difficulty in sewing an accurate seam.., , if you sew too close to the edge of the seam, the fabric can pull, a narrower seam is weaker as there is less structure of the fabric from the stitching to the edge of the fabric, not sure what you mean by Hems are more about friction and dynamic pressure, Hems make the edge of the fabric stronger as the hem is the doubling over of the fabric.
Flopped in 1 piece because you can.... working smarter, experience at work. I also liked the bore cut for the humbolt, letting gravity do the work. I've found myself fighting a heavy saw when the spikes don't bite. I'm always learning something new watching your posts, thanks for sharing.
Another great video! Since you showed the money beaver office I had to tell you that my wife bought me a 2.0 saddle for Father’s Day. Idk why I waited soo long to buy one. I called Evan last week and told him how great the 2.0 saddle is and the support is phenomenal! You guys have a great product. I recommend all your gear to every tree guy I know. Thank you for making my back feel better at the end of the day 👌🏻
Not only the exact amount of pre-tension, But also the exact direction of that tension. …. I just can’t…..there’s something….. but how does…..when the….. AAAAAAHG….HE’s A ARBORIWIZARD !!
Loved seeing your crew behind the scenes, very refined tree felling as always, excellent content! I so look forward to the day I order my first MB saddle.
As a home owner with an MS170 AND MS250...you should take my advice on these things..."Why didn't you just" bring in a heavy lift helicopter to lift that tree over to the chipper??? huh? Huh? Why not? LOL Seriously though...I am always impressed with the skill you guys have in putting trees (mostly) right where you want them to go. I have about 3 1/2 acres here and most of it was a pature MANY years ago. The trees that grow here are short lived a/o get storm damaged so I have to fell some of them and limb and buck up the rest (I will have campfire wood for as long as I live here I think. So I have followed some of your (and others') videos and am alway surprised when a tree does more or less what I want. lol Cheers from New Brunswick, Canada (eh) edit: Oh and most of the trees I cut here would be what you cut when topping out there ;-)
I think that you JUST did the right thing. Labor is expensive, that tree was rock hard, climbing when it isn’t needed is putting yourself (and your operation) in jeopardy. JUST in case anyone is wondering why what happened is the appropriate response to this particular situation 😊. Ya did good! Made that righteous chipper grunt a Lot 😂
We will give the Lord credit here. He is always worthy of praise; considering how complex everything in creation is so carefully designed. 👍 It is easy to see your apprehension since dead trees and the wind are so unpredictable.
Hi, thanks for sharing, appreciated. I haven't done that much with a throw line but I made my own Big Shot or whatever they are called, used a cardboard box for the throw line and made the weight out of kangaroo leather and ball bearings. When there are sales on kangaroo skins at the Queensland supplier (Packer Leather Shop) whole skins can be bought for $6 and $9 $ Australian each in bundles. I'm sure you could innovate a simple structure to use the strength of Kangaroo leather and make your own throw line weights. It's like many things these days, if you want it done right you have to take control of every aspect and make it right. (Making and using things like the oversized sling shot from a garden fork and rubber tubing and matching it to a kangaroo throw weight was satisfying and It impresses people when you can line up a branch and thread a throw line in one shot.) Thanks again for sharing Cheers sincerely d
For what it's worth, I think the "Why don't You JUST...?" brigade, need to learn to "Work Smarter, NOT Harder", as you (routinely) demonstrate; It's easy to be an "Armchair Critic". Keep giving us these 'insightful' videos, I for one, enjoy your perspective on a wide range of topics ... 😉
Thank you again for your experience and teaching. I do want to ask, if in addition to the rope “pull”, did you angle your hinge cut more on your left to leave a little more wood on the right to cause the thicker hinge wood to help pull the tree to the right toward the chipper? Hope that makes sense. ……. I’ve learned tree work from your videos and have taken out a 60’ Calif. Live Oak hanging over my barn. I was able to drop the last leaning 12’ of trunk in an 8’ wide path between the property fence and the back of the barn, using the lessons learned from your videos. … thank you, the really old guy.
He said in another comment that he did compensate with the notch. That was the whole point of what he said. One of the tricky parts of falling just off the natural lay is how much to compensate and will you can you(or should you) hang at the stump, and will that even help as it's a very short time that you can effect the direction by changing the backcut/the hinge as it's falling. Nice job on the oak 🏆. Have a great week.
The slothful will not till for fear of the cold bro! It's easy for folks to offer opinion when they are behind a screen. Keep up the good work brother and thanks for the custom saddle!
Why don't you..... (sorry had to say it) Thank you for the video - always nice to 'go with you' on jobs. Hope the crew / family and you have a great / happy and safe Independence day (The 4th of July for some - I rather say the name of the holiday instead of the date). God Bless from the midwest.
August...Great display of arborist knowledge gathered through years of experience! Still no takers on the AX-19. I thought that would have been gone the next day!
Advise me with 20inch thick pine which is apparently 56feet tall within 3-4feet lean, should I try to wedge 90degree to the side as side leaner? or remove also other pine behind to give a spot to wedge right 180degree against lean as back leaner? Yes I'm not having ropes just wedges, axe and 13inch bar chainsaw as homemade firewood guy 😊
Dear August, thank you especially for the pondering part of this video. I know pondering too well, if there is nobody to share, you feel all on yourself, the good shepard seems so far away, and the shield of faith gets serious in trusting things unseen...until the outcome of the final cut😅. Let"s keep up the pretension of trust in Jesus.
I am always happy to 'just' do something using a method requiring less effort and danger. I climb when there is no other readily available option. When, or if, you get to be as old as I am, you too will likely be happy to have done so. Thanks again for another excellent demonstration of refined tree work. Your cinematographic skills are only surpassed, perhaps, by your skill as an arborist. (Note that "arborist" is not recognized by spell check. How sad is that?)
I almost cried when you stuffed that tree into the chipper, l heat my house with wood and a log that size would heat my house for about three weeks. I sure wished I lived closer to you and some of your worksites.
Why don't you just grab the tree with your bare hands and pull the tree down??? - Joking 🤣 Thou to be honest that'd be pretty damn cool. Love the content as always August
Why don't you just keep doing what you do (if you want to)! I feel like being with friends when watching your videos, even though I live on the other side of the world and we've never met.
i love the way you look analyse the tree make a plan decide where to flop it over come all these variables and bang its right on the mark , knowledge and skill is king
That pre-loaded tention disappears when the tree starts falling. So during the fall, that over-compensation shouldn't be of any help to direct the tree. Just something that didn't make sense. Anyhow, loving your videos!
Not true when you’re using dynamic rope. The rope is stretchy and holds tension beyond just the initial force. Also a noodley tree can be preloaded with a bunch of bend in it so force is applied over a longer period of time as the tree falls.
If you can fall it fall it especially if it’s sketchy great Explanation of compensation pulling 👊. The phrase why didn’t you just there’s a lot to that. After doin a enough tree work to have a pretty good understanding of it like you an Damien and Buck and Billy Ray and Jacob make that kind of stuff look a little easier than what it is
Great. Video august. Funny about your throw bag ! The only one I’ve had luck with is the notch ! Going on 4 years with mine and the stitching is as good as the day I bought them .
@@randyshaffersr.785 I don't doubt it, I have two others that are just fine after a few yrs myself, just that one bad one out of a batch I guess. Need to grab another batch, never know when you'll blow one out.
I like the day in the life style. Don't remember a MB vid I didn't like. I was wondering why you weren't pulling it over at the end but then you explained why you did what you did so now I know. I would buy a MB Through Bag,
August- is the line you used springy? I know (think?) that climbing lines are designed to stretch to take the shock load out of a fall(engineered in). But rigging lines by nature need to be more stretch limited…… correct? So with a variety of choices, yours for the pretension would be which?
I'm sure you probably been asked this before but with a tree that has been devastated with Beatles what kind of restrictions are you under to get rid of the chipped Tree? All the best from Surrey BC Canada
I've had the same experience with the All Gear throw balls. I bought 3 16oz weights from my local arborist shop and busted the seam on one after about a week of light use, and another busted the first day i used it. Also the rings open up very easily, so the weight falls off all the time
An Insta360 can eliminate your videographer duties on site so you can concentrate solely on the tree task with no worries about whether what you're doing is in frame.
Rotten tree climbing is a very risky business and when possible needs to be avoided - I've had a tree limb give way while I was cutting a rotten tree down and had choice to climb up it - luckily the fall wasn't to far and I walked away with just bruises and scraps and a bruised ego and nothing broken
Why didn’t you just…. Lol nice work sir, had to do a sweet gum all most the exact way but it had so much lean I had to put two ropes, one compensating and one to pull it over Anyway always appreciate your videos and the time you take to show how you do things!
Good question. Was a bad idea. I had her try it first, but she couldn’t do it so… I left that part out of the video because I didn’t want it to look like I was bragging that I was stronger than a petite little girl lol
I had a little too much pre tension in a spruce top last weekend, my groundsman was giving it some directional assistance with the rope in a small back yard and got a little overzealous when the top started to move a little as I was putting in the back cut…. Snapped off the hinge prematurely and kinda scared me but it all worked out just fine and he learned something he won’t forget… didn’t even need to raise my voice when I asked him to look at the hinge and tell me what happened 🤣
Maybe I'm wrong, but the just word people might not mean you I'll will. Everyone has different abilities. I would not question anyone's abilities until they did some pretty bad mistakes. Maybe they are amazed at your felling abilities. Idk. anyways awesome job like all your vids!
@@AugustHunicke -- Thank you for the opportunity to play the "Why didn't you just...?" game. Used it in a roundabout way to express how I feel about your insight and professionalism, and just how much I look forward to and enjoy your videos. 👍
Would monkey beaver be able to get any stock of felling dogs for sthil MS 261 cm ? As the only ones that are on line are the cheap made in China junk dogs 😮💨I know west coast saws do felling dogs but trying to save the money to buy them is not easy
