HAT HACK!! This is one way that I will clean grime off of a felt hat. CAUTION!!! You are removing small amounts of felt so don't go too crazy lol. Results may vary but this has worked well for me. Hope this helps! Thanks for watchin!
Yes that's exactly how I would get cat/dog fur or particles larger than dust off the felt. For dust I just brush. This is for grime that is thick and hardened and won't come off/out with the normal use of a hat brush or sponge .
How about using a stiff toothbrush with a little water? It might take a little longer though. Seems that you might be removing a lot of fir felt. Of course that was nasty crusted on material that you would rarely see. Another possibility is to use packing tape to remove at least some of it. You wrap it upside down around you hand and you dab the problem area. I use it to get major dust off a hat before steaming. Then I brush, then steam.
“Crusted material that you would rarely see.” Unless, of course, we’re talking about a working man’s (or woman’s) felt hat worn daily, in which case it’s bound to look like that.
That would work sometimes. If you do use that method be sure to use distilled water only. This is for when a more aggressive method is needed cuz the other less aggressive methods didn't
