FLOP OR NOT?
Listen... every thing and body is a flop these days on social media. 🙄
And I got so tired of hearing people say it, that I had to dive into it. Enjoy! 😉

The problem truly lies with these industries who don't allow these women to be better versions of themselves but they try to make them an emulation or a copy of who's the best female artist NOW. actually back in the day of lil Kim and foxy, anything below a 100k first week your record label would drop you. I think the standard has been lowered for female rappers today so Nicki doesn’t look like she’s the only one who’s successful. Calculate how much Megan made from selling 60k you will understand that Megan didn’t make much money back for her label and that’s what makes it a flop. The goalpost always changes to suit the rap girls. These girls have million of instagram followers but can’t translate those followers into sales for their labels, especially after the labels have spent millions of dollars on marketing, music videos, writers, studio sessions, clothes, makeup artists etc and all the female rappers do is make 20k first week. That’s not even enough to cover a music video budget. If any Caucasian artists sold 60k or 20k that would not be acceptable but when it comes to female rappers it becomes a debate😂

Between basically EVERY big or cult female name in rap dropping projects and several beefs in the mix, 2024 to me is the peak year of female rap imo. Because it’s the only way to show actual hype for an artist. The amount of people who show immediate interest in your project demonstrates the level of hype that artist generates in the general public. Also it’s really the physical sales that matters the most because that means people are literally going out and buying your stuff instead of streaming a song or two off the project. Internet hype isn’t real so you can’t tell how popular an artist actually is from that.

y'all act slow like you don't understand numbers and how they work. if a product has entered Walmart and has failed to bring in the predicted sales for that initial month.. ( that convinced the uppers at Walmart to include it ) it will get pulled from the shelves. same thing with music all of these girls cannot sell over 100k units consistently. which is standard & shows how much support this one artist can garner without having to go through a whole month of trial to know if the product ( music ) will sell. it might be bragging rights for fans and for the artist but the label doesn't gaf about that. they care whether this project is going to help them get their money invested back... I hope this helps.

Lakeyah is an amazing artist.... The problem is that she can't make good songs (Hooks to be specific). Same with Flo Milli. Flo's album sold 15k first week. "Never Lose Me" was a hit... but that's about it. Nothing else on her album made any noise. I actually like Monaleo, but all of her song sounds the same... Sonically and subject matter. Kaliii got a hit song because she sampled "Area Codes" by Ludacris and it went viral on TikTok. That was a year and a half ago and she has been unable to make any noise since then. Lola Brooke has officially fell off and there is no coming back from it.... She has a deeper tone to her voice (similar to GloRilla) but it seems like she is purposely manufacturing her voice to be deep where as Glo's voice sounds a bit more natural... Essentially what im trying to say is that it really doesn't matter how well you can rap or how much lyrical ability you have.... if you cant write clever hooks that people can rap/sing along to than you will get left behind. I think sometimes we forget that the hook is the most important part of the song.
@nocap6904
@nocap6904 Месяц назад
I agree with this statement 100%... For example, Look at someone like Megan. She can rap her ass off and has punchlines and metaphors for days but she can't write a hook to save her life. The hooks on her new album were trash. This is why the biggest song off that album is featuring a Japanese artist and is TikTok song with a dance attached to it. On the flipside, Look at someone like Glorilla. She is a below average rapper (in my opinion) but she is amazing at writing hooks. Her debut hit song "FNF" stayed on the Billboard charts for 20 weeks. "Yeah Glo" has been on the charts for 25 weeks and I believe "TGIF" will make it to 20 weeks.... To make a long story short, if you can't make catchy hooks, you will not get that much attention from the general public.

She is willing to switch up her vibes, switch up the topics, come at topics in different ways, work with different producers and sounds, and seems genuinely focused on song crafting. The obsession with trying to go viral or trying to come off cool and indifferent has taken away a lot of artistry. Gaslighting 101: Back in the day, Nicki made it her MISSION to not be classed in the same category as the other girls. She was up there with Jay, Kanye, Drake, Wayne, and Eminem. But slowly, Nicki has not been able to compete with her actual peers, for example not making the business moves of Jay or the numbers of Drake...so, the barbs quietly put Nicki BACK in the 'female rap' category and thought we wouldn't notice. Now, because she's in a comfortable category (not with her peers) she seems to win by default. It's like a 40 year old in a high school class passing all the tests and getting praised for it. She shouldn't BE there to begin with!

I think female rap is at a turning point its either the genre is dying down cause looking at streams it doesn't feel like gp is really interested. OR, it is opportunity to usher in talent and lyricism in female rap. Cause right now these female rappers ain't doing it for GP. Except for Nicki Doja or maybe Cardi who shall remain powerful due to their fanbases.

I think the problem is that we don’t have enough diversity in main stream female rap. Like I don’t want to hear about u shaking ur a** every song. When my mom was coming up she had women like MC Lyte, Yo-Yo, and Queen Latifah. If u wanted to listen to provocative music u could listen to lil Kim and foxy brown. Male rap works bc there are male rapper like lil Baby and j Cole to opposite ends of the spectrum.

Fighting over first week sales is useless because physical albums is not the way people listen to music anymore. Streams make a bit more sense but even then, numbers doesn’t necessarily indicate how good an album is. The thing that does is the album itself lol. With mainstream female rap, the problem is, there are only slight differences between the girlies. And then these girlies don’t really evolve their sound or subject matter. So I’m not surprised that they are struggling with longevity. It’s starting to suffer in the way male rap has been for a fat min. It’s a genre wide issue at this points

Female rap is in the "flop" era. The only one that moves unit is Nicki, Ice spice got a taylor swift feature, Nicki Minaj feature, and Travis Scott and only sold 20k first week. Sexxy red was hanging around Drake the last year and a half, made a song with chief keef, and got promo by the WWE, and she only did 28k first week.

We as the consumer shouldn’t care about the sales ….. when ice spice dropped munch 2 years ago it seemed organic very natural, when JT was featured on like that remix ; again it was organic and natural now it seems like a gimmick or ruse to rise in stardom. Like ice spice rushing to get that album out because she had all these rumors circling her about it and I’m about her tour. It’s not organic anymore female rap hasn’t been organic in a long time. When flo released ‘never gonna lose me’ it was so popular that she had over four remixes out. You don’t need four remixes to the same song when it’s just other artist, adding their verse on your song, not even a remix of the song. I think female rap is more of a cash grab than flop it’s just not organic anymore

Maybe is just me but i think it's cuz we're just tired of the overly sexualized rap and same topice being said 😭😭BUT! I notice when female rappers talk about serious topics (for example "Anxiety" by Megan Thee Stallion which is one of my absolute favorite songs by her), then everyone is quiet and doesn't stream them. It's like a double edged sword. Sexual rap gets more attention but is dying out with attention but the actual serious raps we want but don't get enough attention. Like Rico Nasty, Doechii, Little Simz, and so many more don't get enough attention and they're not overly sexual. I just wish people would see that the lesser known projects need more attention and it's also our fault cuz we don't stream them/pay attention to them. I hope that makes sense 😭Like don't get me wrong I like sexual rap BUT i also love when raw and serious topics are talked about. You can balance both without delving too much into one

I think the big issue is that a lot of these female rappers are more popular as public figures on social media then they are as artists which is why they might have millions of followers on Instagram who are interested in their day-to-day life and will interact with every single pic/vid on Instagram. But then when their album comes out it flops. They haven't been able to translate their fame into a core fanbase who loves and will support their music.

I think the genre has a quality problem because of too much hit chasing. Around 2020-2021 the hits that came from Meg, City Girls, Doja, Nicki, Rico, and Flo Milli felt raw and genuine. And that’s the truth 🤷🏾‍♀️ streaming has ruined music for like 90% of artists. Unless you’re already established it won’t work. Plus the music itself is not original. In female rap it’s the same topics Mind you I love it all it’s so boring. Plus.. with Stan wars ppl only care about the beef not the music itself. One last thing ppl get too comfortable with the word flop when to me everybody flopping because 20k is wild the label’s gonna go broke soon 😂
