Is the iFS an old platform by today’s standards? Are there other flap FS machines that do not require suction or as much suction or are all flap making lasers basically thee same? Thank you in advance for any answers!
The basics are pretty much the same. You always need suction otherwise the eye ball is not stable. Some new devices dock and suck in a all in one step. Instead of having to first suck then dock
@@akbenyelles Got it. Thank you! Would you know if the aplannation of the cornea and pressure involved to stabilize it for the femto cut in any way induce refractive errors or introduce aberrations or is that not really an issue normally? Thanks in advance!
@@Odank you re very welcome! To my knowledge, there is no refractive changes induced by the flap creation. Which is quite logical since the immediate next step is the refractive treatment (by excimer laser). However it s quite a relevant issue not in lasik procedure but in lenticular creation and extraction (smile). A smooth and not too deforming aplantation is a major challenge for companies that want to develop femto second lenticular treatments
@@akbenyelles I appreciate this! I had LASIK (WF-guided) more than a month ago and currently my visual acuity is better than 20/20 (I was -3.50 in both eyes with slight astig) and great night vision as well. However - this may be far fetched or hard to understand but what I immediately noticed since the first day and even until today is a change in my “perspective” - not that I have better peripheral vision but more that things appear closer to me know while being sharp (like in a rear view mirror). It’s like I had a 50mm lens before and it got swapped for a 60mm ( so more a telephoto effect). Is that a thing that can happen? I mean even is someone is overcorrected, can the image size/depth be changed like this?
@@Odank congratulations for your surgery and for the good results. From what you said before I thought you were a doctor. You know the topic very well! As far as the perspective change I would say that it is related to the asphericity changes in your cornea, although treatments are nowadays aspherical
