Fence Brace & Wire Testing Like You've Never Seen

We pit high-tensile Tornado Wire vs low-carbon woven wire. What better way to test which kind of fence is better? We build two different kinds of fence and then drive a car through them. Yes, we had a lot of fun-but this is to prove a point!

Cool video. I wish you tested them the same way - I was curious to see just how much difference there was. I feel like the wood h braces held up pretty well!

They did much better than I had expected. We plan to do another version this summer in soft ground which will be more telling.

My neighbors El Toro my fences every once and a while but they usually hit it on an angle. One day I looked out to my field and there was a large brown object in it. My neighbor had hit the fence and rolled in the field getting covered in mud. The truck was red before this. Excellent video.

Great video, we're I live in Kansas 3 materials are used for braces metal piping by the Profesional fence builders, large hedge post with piping horizontal brace by the farmers, and treated pine post by the diyers/homesteaders. The piping and hedge post honestly last forever, and the treated post last 5 years if done well, really a waste of time and money. Every pro fence builder I've talked to reasons for metal pipe over hedge is for speed of install not bc is superior. Half the time and just as strong is just business savvy. I use hedge due to its every were dosnt rot and free.

That's why I use creasote railroad ties or telephone poles for corner bracing. I've see railroad ties that have been in the ground more than forty years and still going strong. El Toro would loose a front end on a rail tie or telephone pole.

Agree, with a caveat: Having just gone through a NM wildfire and losing 16 H-braces and 4 corners, all creosote railroad ties, think I'm moving to pipe from here on out. The previous owner had done other corners and H-braces in pipe and they're still standing. Oh, and by-the-way, for general information: most of the creosote poles ignited by simple ground fire (pine needles, dry grass, etc), NOT by blast-furnace trees being nearby (although that happened too).

😂😂😂😂....BTW, us cattle farmers in Kansas use Hedge posts instead of those scrawny treated things you called posts. And our corner and bracing posts are twice that diameter... and aren't driven into the ground. They are done the old fashioned way. And are in the ground 48"-54".at least on our farm...I have seen someone (unintentionally) drive a similar car into our Hedge corner posts, at roughly the same speed as you did here. Seen the post break off at ground level (which says nothing about the method of fence building). And I also seen the post barely be pushed sideways...... Before retirement, I spent six decades raising cattle. Not once did I ever see a bull decide to run and head butt a fence post. Based on this video, and the previous one, (of course I know you won't care what I think 😂), I think you simply wanted to give your opinions on the style of fences you like; complain about the methods you don't like; and wanted to destroy both fencing and the car.😂😂😂😂
@SWiFence
@SWiFence 2 года назад
You're not wrong about the car. 😆 Yeah a nice thick hedge post will stand the test of time--that's a good choice. 👍🏻 As far as methods it's pretty obvious that a large majority of fence building is stuck in the stone age. We build fence for a living so it's more than a hobby for us.

One final comment sir... driving through the fence at the steel posts between the wood corners, proved nothing as far as fence strength.😂 You chose the weakest point...... And as far as the wood posts pulling up out of the ground, if they were in the ground 4ft... and actually packed dirt/tamped dirt, instead of driven into the ground... You would not have been able to pull them like that.😂

Here in Brazil we made ours fences in many differets ways, i personally dig a hole about 70cm-80cm deep, put a 16cm diameter hardwood treated post an fill with concrete. On the edge post i dig a hole over 1 meter deep, 25cm post and fill with concrete and put diagonal supports. Distance between the posts are 3 meters and 6 barbed wires. I hope that last 10-15 years, the cattle don't dare to cross. Plus all of it, i coated the posts two times with thick motor oil.

there's a lot of people in Oklahoma that will drive their galvanized posts rather than use concrete, and that is becoming more and more common.
@chrisoakey9841
@chrisoakey9841 2 месяца назад
fill the steel post with concrete to reduce its ability to fold over. and concrete creep in frost isnt a thing if you enlarge the bottom of the hole and don't fill to the top. that way you avoid the mushroom top the frost lifts.

I feel like the wood posts would've been even stronger if the lose ground from digging the hole would've had a couple months to solidify around the post.

They wasn’t dug. They where drove. I think post depth is the only think they plays a part here in that argument. It didn’t look like the wood post was as deep you you honestly can’t tell from a video on the depth. If pipe was more readily available i would use it on all of ours but unfortunately we are welders we are grinder. And the pipe is just hard and expensive for most people’s budget we work for.

The strongest fence was the one you hated the most and spent most time using greater force. Wouldn’t concrete holding rail ties demolish El Toro?

We will have to disagree. Concrete will eat the wood posts even faster than without.

I usually enjoy your videos . This one ... not so much . If l want to see a car getting wrecked , l will go to a demolition derby . Why not build a small corral with your different materials and put in a couple of unfamiliar bulls and see what happens ?

Pulling on those posts in that mater is very risky... you are taking a chance of that chain coming lose and flying back into the windshield ... I've seen it happen before and putting the driver into the hospital... be careful
