I'd correct one aspect of this video, considering I've set many a fence post in my life and have seen how they do over time. It's not moisture that causes posts to rot, but micro-organisms in the soil which feed on the wood. The post-failure rot I see is normally always between the top of the soil and the top of the concrete below because this is where the micro-organisms in top soil do their most work. That's not to say I haven't seen some rot within the concrete from moisture, but it's generally not enough to cause the post to fail. I think this product's best selling point is ease of use. Also consider whether you need added weight below ground level which concrete helps provide, particularly if you are having to set the post more shallow than you would like. (I'm not affiliated with any concrete maker or retailer or get any gain from promoting concrete).

I agree with you. I have found much more solid wood towards the bottom of the hole than the wood pulp at the top. Supporting your point Mark. And left long enough the entire post below ground will be rotten wood.

Not weighing as much underground as concrete as you mentioned is a very valid point , I built a fenced in 2/3acre parcel in my back yard for my dog 2.5 years ago and I absolutely needed as much concrete weight as possible under ground on 2 of the posts particularly because one had a 6 foot long by 4 ft tall wooden gate hinged to it , big gate yes I know but I had to make it wide enough to fit my zero turn mower in to mow that section of the yard which has a 50" deck on it , and the second post is the one that had the latching mechanism attached to it to keep the gate firmly shut in place without worry of the dpg getting lose . Just based on the fact that I set the primary post that the large gate hinged to it was place inside a 29" deep hole with 1.5"-2" of drainage rpck , anf then a 12" wide form tube , but in the end I decided I needed more weigjt that the concrete in the form tube would provide do after shoveling cement into the form tube , instead of shoveling some of the dirt back into the hole around the outside of the form tube , I decided to actually just go ahead and keep on shoveling more concrete in literally filling the entire hole even around the form tube right up to about 1/2" before the surface , so I got the 4ft tall post concreted in a hole about 2ft wide on average and about 27-28 inches deep , which is a lot of concrete for one fence post, took just over 3 50 pound bags to fill and entire point here is that even all that weight of concrete in and all around the form tube , after about 2 winters the post still moved a tiny bit after last winter causing the very bottom of my homemade large wooden gate to drag on the pavement of the side walk a bit when you open and close the gate , so that is there a little over 150 pounds of concrete in a hole that was about 27"-28" deep from ground level to top of the drainage rock , it still wasn't enough to keep the fence post from settling/shifting , so here is my entire point which is I'd say there would be no way this product could support that much weight without shifting a considerable amount , even likely ripping outta the ground if it's got a gate hinged onto it , not saying this product isn't good , I'm just poonting out that not all posts are used for the same purpose causing fence posts under certain uses to without a doubt cause this product to fail , if not in some cases (like supporting a large gate like mine) not even work from the start likely. Just want people with no experience to keep things like that mind cause as this guy said who's comment I'm replyug to not all fence posts require the same amount of weight recessed under ground to keep the post fixed in place , so do your homework people

BenFencin we made them ourselves and they are very inexpensive to make. The small horseshoe shape end pieces are broomstick holders that are normally screwed into a wall. The wood dowels are 5/8 by 4 feet. I predrilled the 4 foot dowels and screwed the broomstick holders in. I have used them for hundreds of fence poles. Have a nice Memorial Day.

Price makes a big difference. Concrete may be a little heavy but you can set a lot of post at a much lower price than Secure Set SP. Concrete: $4.32 per bag right now at Lowes and Home Depot. Secure Set SP: $16.61. The difference $4.32 per post hole vs $16.61 per post hole.

Hello, You can also buy Secure Set by the gallon. If you have enough posts, a four gallon kit is $116.00 That kit will set 20 4x4 posts or 28 - 2 3/8ths metal posts. For the 4x4 wood posts it would be $5.80 per post and for the metal posts it would be $4.14 per posts. If you buy right you can be at the same price as concrete with 1/100th the work !!

Dave, Secure Set will last 25 years, that is also what the utility industry programs for the setting of their utility poles. I see from your post you are in the fencing industry, the labor savings to your business will be very significant. This is also what other businesses we sell to in the fencing industry are feeding back to us. Watch our video fence pole testing for a real eye opener. We sell Secure Set in bulk too. Thanks for your inquiry.

Danny we apologize for the time. We produce other products for the utility industry besides Secure Set, we had put all the products on a single site. This simply did not work, there was to much confusion. Example people were calling to clarify if our TimberBond product was a fencing product too. To make a long story short we now decided to have a single website just for Secure Set fencing. Live and learn, believe me answering calls consumes a tremendous amount of time. Thanks for inquiring.

This essentially just based on the video lopks to be just a simple two part epoxy/resin type of material with the characteristic of expanding to some extent. My question is can it support a 5-6 foot wide by 4 foot tall wooden hinged gate without ripping outta the ground or failing entirely from the start. And does this product in the end along with the portion of post that's underground , combined at least meet , if not exceed the weight of the part of the post that is above ground and any possibly things that may be fixed to the post like a hinged gate ? Cause like someone else already commented it looks awefully light , expecially compared to standard sacrete.

@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 4 года назад
Hello, First, here is the answer to the question about the support sticks., "Making the support sticks". Go to your nearest Home Depot and go to the lumber department. There you will find a pre-cut stick that is 8 feet long and is 2"x2". Buy at least two of these sticks. Cut the sticks in half so you now have 4 - 48" sticks that measure 48"x2"x2". Then you will need to find the vinyl coated hooks. The hooks are “U" shaped with a 1.5" threaded tail. The UPC code is 3069901215 the SKU is 0000-864-404 Purchase 8 of these hooks. Before you screw the hooks into the ends of the sticks, it is wise to pre-drill a small pilot hole for the threaded screw. This will prevent the hook from splitting out the end of the stick. Attach a hook on each end of the stick. As for the two-sided post leveler, you can find those in the "Tool" section of the store. On the wall with all the industrial levels, you will see the two sided post leveler near the bottom shelf. Buy two or three of these levels and you can support and pre-level several posts prior to mixing and using Secure Set. Second, The liquid that is poured into the hole, will seep under the post if you have not driven the post into the soil. If you have any additional questions about Secure Set, please feel free to call 405-672-8885.

Hello Robert, The entire area that we filled and fixed was actually 17 feet long. The part we raised was 8 feet, but the remaining 8 foot section to the right of where we raise the slab was also hollow underneath. To tear out the 17 foot section and replace the concrete was far more expensive than the two kits we used to restore the area. Leslie had investigated everything very thoroughly and knew beforehand the use of the high density spay foam was a much better option. She is a smart lady and she had done all her homework. Thank you

@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 6 лет назад
Many fencing companies have told us that the cost is very comparable when you set the posts at the proper depth according to fencing standards. When setting posts with concrete you also use a larger diameter hole, but with Secure Set you only need 2" of foam around each side of the post. A standard 8' post will be set 24" in the ground for line posts and 1/3 of the overall height of the post for corners and gate posts. Also Secure Set will seep into the earth before it starts expanding, and can be pressed into the ground when it foams up to the top of the hole, if you so choose. This gives even more security to the post, as it creates a root ball effect in the earth. Please go to www.secureset.net to calculate your project and see that it is not 4x's the price of cement. There are many reasons to use foam vs concrete, such as longevity of the posts below ground, as the utility industry learned some 25 years ago.

How about termites burrowing through the foam and eating a wood post?
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 6 лет назад
Secure Set has no nutritional value; therefore, termites and micro organisms do not eat off of it. Also, since this is a closed cell foam your posts will be protected below ground from rot or rust. The utility industry has been using this product for the past 18 years. We originally created this product for them with their guidelines for setting wood, steel, and concrete utility poles. The poles are protected below ground and easy to use and fast to set up.

I do not know who told you that fence post rust inside concrete because that is not true, Fence post are galvanized coated. And also, wood post do not rot when they are set in concrete, they rot because they are set incorrectly and will not let the moisture bleed down into the ground, wood post should always have a few inches of loose gravel around the bottom then you can use concrete or your product to set it. As far as not mixing concrete and using your product, as long as the price is good, I would most certainly try it.

Secure Set is a closed-cell plastic and will never take on moisture of any kind. It is not affected by the frost heave, whereas concrete is very porous and takes on water then freezes and pushes your post up multiple times throughout the winter months every year. Secure Set is a 40+ year product, it has been used to install utility poles and telephone poles for the past 17 years across the US and Canada. Visit our website at Secure Set www.secureset.net. Interesting. Too expensive for the average farmer. Post hole cement changed the game. We always put a rock in the hole to set the post on, then before the cement sets, float the post up 2” to prevent any subsoiling to start moisture problems. Have a 10 acre fence about 50 years old. Still stout.

At your local lumber store, they should sell pre-cut 2"x1" sticks that are 8' long. Buy at least two of these sticks. Cut the sticks in half so you now have 4 - 48" sticks that measure 48"x2"x1". Also in the hardware department they should have vinyl coated U-shaped hooks with 1.5" threaded screw. Purchase 8 of these hooks. Before you screw the hooks into the ends of the sticks, it is wise to pre-drill a small pilot hole for the threaded screw. This will prevent the hook from splitting out the end of the stick. Attach a hook on each end of the stick. Support and pre-level several posts prior to mixing and using Secure Set. After the foam has finished expanding wait about 5 minutes and move the support sticks to your next holes.

I would think that as long as it is not exposed to UV radiation or certain chemicals, it would last a long time. What most people don't realize is the energy cost that cement has taken in its manufacture. It takes a tremendous amount to make just one 80 lb bag. This overall is probably a greener approach to the overall environment.

+Bronson Kalipi High density polyurethane foam has been around for almost 40 years. It has been used in the electric utility industry for at least 25 years to stabilize all types of utility poles. All studies have shown and proven that closed cell foam does not allow the movement of moisture or preservatives through it. Since it is an inert plastic, there are no issues of the foam contaminating the water or soil.

THIS IS THE SAME THING AS CONCRETE I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SHOULD I NOT JUST USE CONCRETE
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 6 лет назад
Secure Set is not the same thing as concrete. Secure Set is an inert, closed cell, high strength, 4 lb. density structural foam. It allows no air or water to pass through it; therefore, unlike with concrete, your posts are protected from rot and rust below ground. There are no VOC's or reactants that can enter the air, water or the soil. Some of the concerns with concrete, are that under normal circumstances the preservatives in posts can leach out of the wood into the surrounding soil, as well as the alkalinity in concrete leaches into the soil around posts and also destroys the galvanization on metal posts. Concrete absorbs water and as oxygen, that is present 8” to 15" below the surface, mixes with the water the result creates the perfect environment for corrosion to begin. The presence of water and oxygen also creates the environment for rot to begin on wood posts. Many people must replace their wood and aluminum posts after 7 to 10 years. Secure Set is projected to last 40 plus years. It was created for the utility industry to set utility posts and has been used by them for 25 plus years. Poles that were projected to last 32+ years were rotting at 15 to 17 years when set in dirt and in concrete. Progress has created a much faster and better way of setting utility poles, sign posts, stadium lights, light poles, as well as fences and many other posts.

Secure Set I’ve been building fence for almost 30 years. Have replaced thousands of posts in that this time. Never have I seen post rott inside concrete. They Always rott where the concrete and dirt meet. I’ve pulled 4x4s tamped in dirt that looked new after 20 years. Posts hold up better under ground than they do above
@markjones7417
@markjones7417 6 лет назад
This is true. It's because it is much less the moisture and air that affects the post as bacteria in the soil. Most of that bacteria that eats wood does so between the concrete (or other material) and the top of the soil. I have set and pulled many posts also, and this is nearly always the case. I think this is a good product for ease of use, but the protection factor may be overrated.

Yeah, Jim... everything chemical based is toxic, right? Considering everything in the world is chemical. Your body is chemical based, everything you eat is chemical based, everything you wear is chemical based.. I can go on, but I suspect your chemical brain is to toxic to understand.

this is just a two part foam product how can this be as strong as concrete. you can step on it and it will flatten out no way does this have the PSI strength as concrete has
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 6 лет назад
Secure Set is a 2 part foam product, but is a 4 lb. density foam (unlike canned spray foam). This has a load weight of 10,800 lbs. per sq. ft. You can barely dent it with a hammer when it has cured. It has a compressive strength of 75 PSI and tensile strength of 130 PSI. Secure Set was created for the utility industry with their guidelines to set electric power utility poles of all types (wood, steel, and concrete poles). They needed an alternative to concrete or dirt to protect the poles below ground from rot and rust, and this is the product that was created to protect their poles to last 40 or more years. So no, it will not easily crush....try it you will see for yourself.

It's easy but, is it safe for the environment? Will the product release residue into our drinking water? I mean it's easy to use but may come with price for a humans life when drinking the water that is contaminated by this product...
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 9 лет назад
+Bronson Kalipi Secure Set is classified as an inert, closed cell, high strength, structural foam. What that means is that no air or water can move through it. There are no VOC's or reactants that can enter the air, water or the soil. This is basically a very strong plastic foam. The bigger concern under normal circumstances when you use concrete, is that the preservatives in the posts can leach out of the wood into the surrounding soil. So not only does Secure Set not allow water or air to move through it, it does not allow those two entities to either rot wood or corrode metal posts, it doesn't allow the wood preservative to contaminate the surrounding soil.

@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 6 лет назад
This is true, because Secure Set 4 lb. density foam has a load bearing weight of 10,800 lbs per sq. ft. at 6" to 8" thick. The problem is containing the expanding foam well enough to manage that type of project. We do have many people that backfill washed out areas under their concrete walkways, driveways, transformer pads, boat docks, etc. It is an amazing product for so many uses.

What's wrong with concrete? If you can't lift an 80lbs bag you have no business setting posts
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation
@SecureSet-Fence-Installation 7 лет назад
Concrete is great for what it was created for, buildings and sidewalks but Secure Set is a superior product when talking about installing a fence post, and unlike concrete it was designed to install posts and poles. Secure Set is a superior product to concrete for installing fence posts and utility poles. It is literally designed and formulated for doing exactly that, keeping a post or pole in the ground and holding a fence post or a pole in place. Secure Set is not designed or formulated for building a bridge, however concrete was, in the same respect concrete was not designed or formulated to install a fence post or a utility pole.Concrete was used for this application because it was the only thing stronger than dirt to dump into the posthole. Concrete is not the only option now and there is a better alternative in the industry to install your fence posts or utility pole. The real question is why wouldn't you use the superior product? Visit our website at Secure Set www.secureset.net. Click on the “Calculate My Project” button and it will walk you through the steps, which will tell you how much product you need to order for your project. This site will also tell you shipping costs and shipping times as well as answer many other questions. You can purchase Secure Set online at Home Depot www.HomeDepot.com And on Amazon www.amazon.com
