I have a reissue 57 Bandmaster, and a recently built clone, every detail copied, carbon resistors, classic tone transformers, including pine lacquered tweed box etc., all replicated from Fender's original schematic. Chassis wired up by Tony at VintageTone. As rich and wonderful as the reissue is, if you build a clone to original specs you get something really amazing, very different. Gorgeous rich low end. Remarkable tone adjustments, (unlike what is said in this video.) Also the reissue cabinet is an extra inch wide at the bottom, Guitar Cabinaet Direct makes their bandmaster cab to original specs. I'm not so sure they should have fiddled with Leo's original design now that I've heard it. Don't get me wrong, I love them both.

My favorite tone amp!. I own many Fender amps, a '69 Bandmaster-Reverb, a '73 Super-Reverb, a '65 reissue Princeton-Reverb, a '65 reissue Deluxe-Reverb, a reissue Vibrolux-Reverb, and a reissue 65 Twin-Reverb amp. I like the tone of the '57 Bandmaster the best....especially with the vintage alnico speakers.

Bought one brand new last week for 2000 and let me tell ya in 4 words, best damn amp ever! Sounds huge and it's so loud that it melts the paint off the walls, but is very loud, perfect. Plenty of headroom if you know how to use the volume on your guitar. Plenty of bass in those 10" speakers.
@ess2586
@ess2586 5 лет назад
Yeah, I built a Weber kit but ditched the shrill Jensen clones. I re-coned the speakers with Weber Blue Pup cones to tame the treble (couldn't even use the bright channel)....anyway you are right...it might be 26 watts, but it's still quite LOUD.....It will be quite loud at 5 on the volume control where a hint of grit starts to happen. I love that amp and have been gigging it for three years now with zero problems.

This is fine, but I have to say that this is one rare case where the silver face models were actually an improvement. A late 60s to early 70s silver faced Bandmaster was in my opinion the best clean sounding amp ever made.

Shall I get one of these or a '65 Deluxe Reverb RI? I love the look of the tweed but have a Romany Plus (tweed) for home use and want a new amp for small clubs / pub use with a small gigging band. Looking for a great clean sound with a decent amount of headroom and of course that lovely natural break up that no pedal can capture. I was thinking that the Bandmaster at 26 watts would give me slightly more headroom than the DRRI at 22 Watts but my guess is that 4 watts difference would be hardly noticeable. And of course you get the beautiful tube vibrato with the 65 DRRI and great blackface looks as well. Ooh man I am torn!

I use Weber Attenuators on my 100 watt Marshall DSL JCM 2000 and my Fender 60 watt Supersonic. They really don't hurt the tone unless you attenuate them down to bedroom levels. They allow me to play them at home with great tone and without my neighbors calling the cops.

It’s a way to keep prices high and flying off the shelf. Kind of like a house that’s listed too long, won’t move at all. They want people like you that missed it cocked, locked and loaded ready to pull the trigger the next time they reissue this model. Companies like fender, Gibson and Marshall are not really instrument companies anymore, because in reality their instruments are obsolete. They are marketing companies generating enthusiasm and demand for vintage gear for nostalgia. And they are tremendously successful at this.

Perhaps the greatest amplifier Fender ever made -- after the '59 Baasman -- was the '61, '62, '63 Tremolux. If they had any sense, they would rebuild one of these amps WITH the same exact chassis, wiring and components as the original and not change A THING. And oh yeah, sell it at a price those of us non-stars can actually afford ...

My favorite amp and guitar is a 65' Gibson mahogany Melody Maker through an April 65' Fender Bassman Head on top of a Fender 2-12 cab with 2 Jensen OR Utah speakers. IN 1986. The guy in the middle says it best. It's the AMP making the sound, the controls are just accessing it a bit, but there is the 'drive to get there' too. The guitar is your car and the chosen circuit path is the road. A good Fender amp will let you treat the pick like the steering wheel. Bigger filter caps? Ugh! Highway SFTY

I think Fender do have point to point wiring on some of their Custom Shop amps. It was already mentioned within this vid (01:54 ) that if you lined up several amps of the same model they'd all sound different as the manufacturing variances were quite wide in the previous years. Fender now also has to consider the wider expectations of the amp's sound palette in modern times ( 03:50 ).

It makes sense that the main designers' name is Marshall. Jim Marshall stole the circutry from Leo Fender to make his amps because he was tired of paying the shipping cost of Leos' amps from America to England. The original is always the best, everything else becomes a weak copy.

An attenuator shouldn't be the "last resort". As long as you get a good one and use it right, it is very useful. You can get a great Weber Attenuator for under 250$ , and they are awesome. The more you attenuate, the more you affect the tone to a degree. There really isn't much tone loss unless you attenuate below 1 watt per speaker. So it you run it through 4 speakers, like in a 4x10 Bassman, you need to attenuate it less.
@theguitarczar
@theguitarczar 7 лет назад
That guy that talked about how he thinks expectations of bass frequencies are different with players of this century compared to the last century is why we don't need old people being the final word on reissuing a product allegedly based on an original. I am solidly from the last century but I also love new gear when it's great. The young people who dig back and want the tones of the players who did things with older tools don't want some old guy who "thinks" he has a better idea of how those tones _should_ have been. They want _the same tools_ so they can see if they can come up with interesting music modern listeners want to hear. Maybe these new player _want_ the flatulent bottom of the old Fenders. Maybe they don't. They can buy a modern Fender (or other) if the latter is the case. I'm surprised these mega-corporations like Fender, etc., haven't figured this out yet.
@PeterDad60

Old people?
@donnybrook8951
@donnybrook8951 7 лет назад
I think that was Fender's way of saying that the old amps had flabby muddy bass that farted out. and we can fix that with the reissue.
@honkybach3567
@honkybach3567 5 лет назад
I was a bit confused. I wasn't sure if they were trying to say 'it was flabby and we fixed that' or 'It lacked bass and we added a touch more in to suit modern tastes'. I'm happy if they took care of the flabbiness, but I don't find I ever need more bass and if I do, there is a control for that.

It's loud....if you use it in a small club or your garage especially. If your drummer is a heavy hitter, you can crank it up to get the dirt and keep up volume - wise. If your drummer is NOT a heavy hitter, you will need an overdrive pedal or an attenuator.

I would probably like the reissue a thousand times more than an original but the kids playing today that are inspired by the tones we grew up with want the same tools because those old sounds _inspired_ them.

Very nice DEMO of the amp. Have a "65" Tremolux with the cab ( re-coned ) and it screams at GIGS when I drive it hard with a sustainer and foot pedal and it sounded great. Very similar. No reverb though. Hey here is a instrumental using a Gibson Falcon 19 @ chacocanyon.bandcamp.com called "MOONLITE WALKERS". there are some free downloads you can use up of the Band. They are looking for KUDOS and please share the link if you can. Thanks and have a good day.

Why don't fender use a 12ay7 in V1. The circuit is setup to use a 12ay7 and not a 12ax7. THe gain factor is 45 for the ay7 and 100 for the ax7. THey could in fact just by a big supply of EHX 12ay7 and screen them and throw away the bad ones. With the prices the demand for these amps it should not be a factor... At the same time they could put a 12ay7 in the tweed deluxe 5e3 and the EC tremolux.

I have never hooked up an amp like this so don't laugh too hard. How do I hook up the replacement speakers? buy 4 harnesses and splice them together? What 10 in. speaker suggestions does anybody have? I do not want any Ice Pick Highs :-) I saw one from Eminence that sounded good but I open to suggestions. I like a cranked Blues tone.

Too much filtering means stiff flat sound, it should be on the verge of ghosting in these amps!
@MrAnders1976
@MrAnders1976 9 лет назад
I do not think they went overboard with the filtering.. I think the three original 16µf caps are replaced with modern illnios caps that are 22µf/500V caps.. Not a big jump... They kept the most important part and that is a small sprague 8µf/450V filtering V1 and V2. Overfiltering preamp and PI stages are a sin.. But Fender also makes an error of putting in a 12ax7 in V1,, it should be a 12ay7,, a tube with much lower gain and a slightly different tonality..

Forget your concept about adapting this amp to this century. If you do that you should not call it a Bandmaster. You could call it the Liarmaster, Creditcardcharger, or my personal favorite, The BullShitmaster. Fender, I used to love you, but you get no more of my money with these fakeout amps that are so lacking, and overpriced, that you have to reference Townsend before you even turn the amp on for demo. Of course you were smart to show the Gretch, a Fender owned company, Clever but no sale.
