Fender is very proud to introduce the Johnny Marr signature Jaguar® guitar, which puts the inventive ringing sounds and highly distinctive design mods of one of the U.K.'s greatest modern-era guitarists in your hands.
Marr is best known, of course, as the strikingly dynamic and influential anti-hero guitarist-arranger-all-around-musical-wunderkind behind Manchester quartet the Smiths, which virtually redefined and ruled U.K. pop throughout the 1980s. A master of melody, layering and texture, Marr has always brought his own instantly identifiable ringing, jangling genius to the proceedings, as he has done in post-Smiths stints with The The, Electronic, the Pretenders and Johnny Marr and the Healers, and right up to the present with Modest Mouse, the Cribs and innumerable guest appearances.

"Sounds like I'm supposed to sound I think" ahahah Brilliant comment. Like he's not even sure what he sounds like. I was on a session a while ago and the studio the session was at, had this Jag. I've never really been a Jag guy, much less anyone's "signature" guitar, but when I gave this a spin, I was floored. It has the biggest, janglyiest sound ever. Every melody I played was like instant surf guitar. And I mean that in the best possible way. It just had a perfect tone. I tried it because we were tracking some 60s Italian style stuff, you know - the type with a farfisa organ? So the engineer told me to try his Johnny Marr jag for the melody and I almost fell over. It sounded perfect for that kind of stuff. I didn't even have to try to get that sound, it was just there. No pedals, no eq, nothing. I'm picking one up as soon as I have the spare cash. Huge sounding guitar.

Excellent video. The reason I like this video is that it's clear how passionate Johnny Marr is about developing and using his customised design. Often, I'm cynical when it comes to large manufacturers like Fender who release "signature" guitars, cashing in on a famous "name"... but in this instance, Johnny Marr is clearly very passionate about the design of his custom model, and the last few seconds of this film clearly shows how proud he is too.

I can't believe it's over thirty years since I first got introduced to The Smiths. JM was making unique, character filled melodies that subtly told haunting stories during a time when other guitarists were running around with pink Lycra trying to outnoodle each other with their faster, louder, talking guitar stuff. Interesting to hear him discuss his instrument and craft. Very cool guy and guitar. Glad Fender recognized his significance.

God, I want one of these. Absolutely beautiful looking and sounding, and the amount of work he's put into customising every feature just seems phenomenal.

You know everyone always brings up the same few songs as his guitar hero songs.. charming man. Headmaster, there is a light, how soon is now... but listen to Meat is murder that songs sound is just so eerie and mysterious and I really feel that song lost out because of the lyrics but Marr created a musical masterpiece in my opinion

This would be a good guitar for the players out there wanting to recreate the Smiths sound. Johnny Marr is one of the best, unique guitarists whose come along in the last 50 years.

He loves Fender Jaguar so much! That's why he changed everything about it.

daily vids I didn’t take it that way. I took it as him giving input to make things more accessible and clearer tone-wise. Specifically with knocking pick up switches during a performance. And the simple fact that he thinks about people with shorter arms and smaller hands is a big deal. But a signature model means he gets to give his input on what he’d want on a guitar, so it’s not like he’s just changing it for the sake of changing things.

He changed way less than people who simply tear out the rhythm circuit & put humbuckers on them
