This is really where Fender marketing department has nailed it. You focus on the present and sometimes nod to the past. It makes everyone relate to a Fender. As compared to some competitors who focus only on past glory.
Vinayak, you too have hit it on the head. Fender has done an amazing job of connecting with "Now" The current marketing strategy is indeed excellent. Current, inclusive, respectful of heritage, and brave. Fender keep the models coming. Your current demographic respects your past, loves what you're doing now, and is excited for the future. All the new models are beautiful. Keep breaking new ground! Go after the competition directly. Give us a badass humbucker beast. In fact, as a luthier I'd love to design it for you. I can already show you a concept! Lol But seriously, we love where Fender is right now. Keep going!
So many of their signature guitars are designed to tools for active musicians rather than museum pieces. The Ed O’Brien Sustainer Strat is also a remarkable guitar! Gibson, on the other hand, seem to be unable to get out of the shadow of those late 50s Les Pauls.
@@malcolmgordon2988 what I have noticed is that Fender carry the ethos of Leo Fender and give their guitars to musicians on the road which was done by Leo in the 50s. Gibson was facing serious issues and that's why Ted McCarty introduced the Les Paul (superstar of the era) model along with ES style guitars, and the Explorer, Flying V and Moderne. But pricing was still too high and therefore all of those models at the time were failures. They became huge only due to collectors. Ted McCarty drove innovation but, Gibson are stuck without any innovation these days. They don't innovate and carry the ethos of Ted McCarty these days. Gibson is the Nokia of the Guitar world. That's why they're not in trend with the modern crowd.
I purchased my Johnny Marr Jag not because I was trying to sound like Johnny Marr, but because it’s a brilliantly designed instrument. I can’t really think of a higher compliment than that.
@@walterrizotto8668 Fender "American" guitars can't even say made in the USA anymore because the components are made elsewhere. That's the price of an affordable guitar in the modern world unfortunately.
@@blakemcnamara9105 Guitarists shouldn't vote Republican. Republicans like Trump promote tariffs that make the economy worse and make things more expensive
This is the best guitar promo for any model that’s ever been made, signature or otherwise. Terrific, expressive, musically-informative presentation of what the guitar sounds like, feels like, and why. I watched the whole damn ad. I’m not even much of a Smiths fan, but JM all day long, sounds great. Nicely done!
almost forthy years listening to him playing and and only today, on 22's spring, I knew the guy can sing, and quite properly... one of the goat imho, gotta love this guy
This guitar is a work of art. My Olympic White example lives on a stand right below a poster of "The Queen is Dead". I don't claim to be a great guitar player, but with my limited experience this guitar can do pretty much everything. As Johnny says, in the 4th position, you get a very punchy, P90 Les Paul style tone. On the neck pickup, you can dial in a very Frusciante esque strat sound, and on the bridge with the high pass engaged, you can get the Rickenbacker Smiths sounds. It truly is an incredibly versatile guitar which could only have been developed by a true master. I love that Johnny really believes in his signature guitar, and as a musician who has had such an impact on myself, I'm proud to own an instrument that bears his name on the headstock.
One of my all-time favorite guitar players. He's so simple when it comes to ideas and yet always been a huge influence for generations. I loved his voice on The Smith's song BTW
Nope. Not possible for Johnny Marr to get any cooler than this. Fun and well made promo. I love the supportive quote at the end, and I love the Fever Yellow. It reminds me of my favorite Yellow-orange Crayola I had when I was young.
Now this is some synergistic marketing I can get behind. I was blessed to see the Smiths front row in 1985. Johnny has always blown me away with his originality and sound. This guitar looks and sounds amazing
Johnny Marr has certainly got the knack for selling a guitar with the Fender Jaguar for Fender! Saying that his Fender Telecaster wasn't cutting it but Isaac's Fender Jaguar did cut the mustard!! Love the quote...where have you been all my life!!??? Love his new sound as well sounds like a mixture of Sonic Youth ,Joy Division, New Order and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club 🏍 New signature series Yellow Jaguar is a great design for a guitar 🎸
I had the one in Olympic White. I sold it. I still regret it. If you have one, don’t let it go. This new finish is a stunner. Johnny’s passion for the instrument is second to none.
Been a Strat man all my life. But when I picked up this guitar, it's like Johnny said...something just happened. It's been my main songwriting guitar ever since. Just a beautiful sounding and brilliantly designed instrument.
@EndofMusic Actually...yeah. It IS better. A lot of the tweaks that Johnny & the Fender design team made really improve the playability and tone of the guitar. At least for me, anyway.
I'm a long-time Jag/JM fan and Johnny's updates to the Jag are just perfect. The switching, the bridge post and trem arm bushings make it nearly perfect out of the box. My KO Orange Marr Jaguar is my go-to and quickly became my favorite guitar. The best signature instrument around!
Two things: 1) In the age of 80's shredders, JM appeared on the cover of a guitar magazine and I immediately gravitated towards him. His style of playing was a breath of fresh air then and still is now. 2) Fender once again proves themselves to be the superior modding platform. Mix and match parts and eventually you'll find your grail. Leo got it right the first time.
Sounds fantastic. Haven't heard a better (live) clean tone than the one in this version of "The Headmaster Ritual" - and that goes for both Johnny + Jag and his other guitarist who particularly impressed with the black Tele on "Headmaster"
I can't believe how fresh and contemporary the sound STILL is- literally 30 years ahead, but guess the time has come for his musical genius to be celebrated - hope a Squier version's on the way, though - 3K Euro's steep for my skills- good on 'im, though!
I love me my Gibsons but content like this is why they are getting boat raced right now. I was never a Smiths or Marr fan but this little window into how he approaches guitar has me hooked.
@@soepil Kenny's Solo stuff is Weirdbilly and Bluesy Jazzy and his stuff with Lucinda.... WOW John Anderson and Mark Knopfler were AWESOME... 2 seeming opposites... Wonder what would be if Vince Gill joined Dire Straits when Mark asked... ???? It was just a thought... I bet Marr and Vaughn could come up with some GREAT IDEAS!!!! Probably wouldn't top Queen Beyonce on Top 40 though... Get Mikey Raphael blowing Harp on a few tunes!!!
I know I am a year late, but, I just saw this in my feed, probably because I had listened to the Johnny Marr interview on Rockonteurs on Spotify and had been searching about Johnny on RU-vid. He is a true gentleman, a rare breed in today's world. I love that Jag and the songs he plays on this are fantastic. He is a great frontman and he has a great voice. Thank you Fender!!
I still remember the first time I played the original Johnny marr signature guitar in carter vintage guitars in Nashville. My #1 dream guitar; a work of art of an instrument
I also think Johnny's playing is very unique; no one sounds like him, and he doesn't sound like any one else. I mean that in the best possible way btw. You're at your best in life when you're doing something your way, and doing it brilliantly.
I have the fever dreams JM jag. Easily my favourite, so comfortable to play, sounds great, looks awesome. Managed to meet Johnny and he graciously signed the scratch plate
Marr is great, Not really sure how much input he has in terms of price range, but it would be cool if he could put it out more affordable version too. Marr is a working class Mancunian but his signature guitar is way out of price range for most. Then again, I guess you could just buy any Squire Jaguar and make some mods to it and it’ll probably be similar to what they would put out if they made a budget version anyway and still be affordable
@@bodyblow I absolutely love it. The neck is so nice, the tremolo feels great too, and I really like the controls and pickups. Just different enough from my original Jag.
Love the Jag. Made my own from bare alder body, and allparts neck. I chose sherwood green with mint pickguard. Nitro paint and same switch system. Used fender pure vintage 65 pickups. Whilst not an exact copy (neck, pickups, body shape) it sounds and plays bloody great! Cost about £600 to make.
Marr is one of my favorite guitarists of all time and I love the new color on the Jag. But still my eyes were fixed on the black Tele. That was something else.....
First song was reminiscent of REM, the second Tones On Tail. I have a Marr Jag and it’s great, but ironically my ES-335 sounds more like The Smiths than the Jag…which makes sense if you’re aware of Marr’s guitar history.
$2299. Which is at the absolute bleeding edge off affordability for me. It's a pro level USA made instrument sure, but any more of these recent price increases and unfortunately it's just not an option (nor worth it) to me.
Excellent promo! Way to go Fender! I have one of the Lake Placid blue Johnny Marr Jaguars and I love it!! This is one of my favorite product introductions next to Hannah Dasher's Nashville Telecaster demo.
