With the introduction of the new Fender American Ultra Series one has to wonder if these new guitars are truly better than the Fender American Elite models that they replace. The new Fender American Ultra Series represents Fender's most advanced series of guitars and basses to date. Built for discerning player who demands precision, performance and tone, the American Ultra Series focuses on modern refinements while still staying true to the original Fender formula. That formula, established by Leo Fender, has always been to provide musicians with the very best tools for their craft.
The New Fender American Ultra Series also represents the first time that Fender has offered a Jazzmaster in the top of the line American series. There was not an American Deluxe Jazzmaster nor an American Elite Jazzmaster. Prior to this the Jazzmaster was only available as streamlined American Professional guise or the vintage appointed American Original, Vintera and modern Player Series. Now players can finally get their hands on a Jazzmaster with NOISELESS PICKUPS! Fender has also taken advantage of the S-1 switch and pre-existing Jazzmaster electronic architecture to deliver a guitar that has many of us excited! Check out our in depth review of the Fender American Ultra Jazzmaster - before Cooper buys one...too late!

From what I'm hearing, the Ultra Noiseless Jazzmaster pickups are darker than standard Jazzmaster pickups. ...which is fine by me. I have a Ultra Tele and Ultra Strat and I love the relative darkness of them vs the stereotypical Tele/Strat. Did you find these to be darker? If so, is it dark such that it's getting into P90 territory but on the brighter side? Thanks!

09/22/2022: looks and sounds awesome. I think it even has a close Tele sound too. I would have liked to hear some chicken-picking country twang songs. But at the price-point, why not add rolled edges on the fretboard and stainless steel frets?

I have the blue Ultra and it’s amazing. Perfect weight and amazing playability but.... BUT... the stock bridge is mismatched to the neck radius. I changed the stock bridge out for a Mastery and had it set up to accommodate that flat compound radius. The pickups are also really, really low output and lack punch, so I switched them out for a set of Lindy Fralin noiseless pickups. Now it is a PERFECT guitar that I love. This is their first time bringing the Jazzmaster to the Ultra series and I’m sure they’ll iron those things out in a couple years.

A major defect in Jaguars and Jazzmasters is the length between the string anchors and the bridge. This causes the high E string to constantly pop out of its string guide when played hard or when popping the high E like Robert Cray. I am curious that none of the reviewers say anything about this. There is a great fix for this that Fender should incorporate, an add on to the tremolo plate.

@maineb1111
@maineb1111 3 года назад
This is fixed on this guitar by using the Mustang saddles which have a single, deeper groove. I’m surprised they didn’t mention this.

Hi - can you tell me more about the bridge? Is it floating or no?
@maineb1111
@maineb1111 3 года назад
It does float, but it has soft plastic inserts in the wells to center the bridge whenever you aren’t using it. It’s much better than the older ones, and of course, it has the Mustang saddles and mates with the flatter radius. Smoothest I’ve ever used.
@MK4vDubbin
@MK4vDubbin 3 года назад
The bridge really needs to be replaced on the Ultra for a proper set up. The radius of the bridge is completely mismatched to the compound radius on the neck. Essentially the Mastery is the only bridge that would work because it allows you to set the bridge radius flat enough to match the 14” on the ultra. It’s a shame. This isn’t a bad guitar but it needs significant modifications to be a good jazzmaster that aren’t worth it given its price IMO.

Yeah, but they've sloped heels, noiseless jazzmaster pickups, locking tuners, finally a /threaded/ tremolo bar (a big move for the fender jazzmaster), and a neat switching system! So innovative! Lol. A decade late, but its about dang time they stepped forward a bit.
@maineb1111
@maineb1111 3 года назад
The switching is really new and clever and they forgot to mention some things. 1) Two tone controls - Both are detented no-load type. 2) The tone knobs operate with the “phase” switch up as well as down, also the three-way is active with the switch up as well. 3) The tone controls operate Les-Paul style with the two roller volume knobs in the up position AND the lead circuit volume control becomes a master volume. 4) The out-of-phase up position has a different tone even on single pickups. Of course, out of phase is only a “thing” with both pickups, and trust me, you’ll like that tone. 5) The S-1 series position is hot and mellow, very Un-Fender. 6) With the S-1 switch on, one tone control rolls off treble conventionally, the other does a slight bass roll-off. It’s still a Jazzmaster though, and if you didn’t like the old ones, all the clever switching in the world won’t make you a convert.
