Here I do a disassembly and assessment of a one-owner '66 LPB strat. Entirely original, but having suffered some damage from stickers on the finish, unsupervised use by family members, years of disuse in storage, and 53 years of my humid tropical climate. Still fully intact and good shape in relation to the poor condition that I generally find instruments of this age.

GREAT! My favorite year fo Fender, and my favorite color! A FEW THINGS -The number 13 before the month, did/does not designate the day of production; it was the neck node number for Stratocasters. -B was the most common neck nut width, and standard Fender's solid body guitars. -The paint job as absolutely original, and has faded to a lighter shade than original. There are a few spots there that just faintly show the actual original color. -The Gibson color you referred to is actually Pelham Blue, and was noticeably lighter in shade; even the green it fades to is different. -the pick guard is most likely the white CBS plastic/vinyl that was phased in during 1965; this one happens to be discolored, as they can become, but it this material does not discolor green, yellow, or gray, like the pre CBS nitrate material did; however, the way you are describing the pick guard, it could be nitrate. -The pickups in this guitar probably measured around 5.8 K Ohms. Around September, '66, the pickups tended do be between 6 and 6.4 K Ohms, and the guitars were wired with blue and yellow wire until just before the end of the year. If you're interested, I have many examples of Lake Placid Blue that I can share with you: spray samples, actual guitars, and paint chip charts. I really enjoyed the video!

Thank you very much, over all these years of owning one of these I never learned what all of the hidden markings meant. I also have my own 66 in sunburst, that I should do a video of as well. On that one, the pickguard is definitely vinyl, and remains very white and unshrunken, this is why I was able to compare the two and determine this one was nitrate with a cream discolouration, and that wobbly surface instead of being totally flat. I scratched a bit at the back of it and there was that definite smell! I somehow did not measure or make note of the pickup resistance, I suppose I was just so relieved that all of the electronics worked perfectly.

@@jothanankrogh Thanks for the reply. Definitely do the Sunburst one. earliestheadstocks I've seen start around November of '65. I went to a vintage shop in Tokyo 10 or 12 years ago, and I found a left-handed '5 in Fiesta Red, with a big headstock. I was kind of interested, but the guy was "running a museum" ergo, being a dick, so I couldn't really check out the guitar. It was a little bit heavy, but it would have been nice to have. Just to let you know: I have the largest collection/stash of vintage guitar string in the world. Cheers!

Lovely guitar, great example of how Lake Placid Blue goes green with age and UV.

5:25 My favourite guitarist, Dodi Battaglia, did that to a few of his strats in the 80's and again for a short time in 2015. I realized it very recently.

M8 you they ran you though a bleach wash in Trinidad? You have the sound but not the look! Nice Strat! Lucky he took it to you and you refused to refin it. Some touch ups on the paint. Yeah def a nitro guard. BTW 13 = Strat from '66 instead of 2 in earlier STrats its NOT the 13th day of the month.
