Ooh I do love a bound neck! Always looks awesome to me! Though it does change the neck profile a little bit but its something you don't really notice after 5-10 min with the instrument 🙂
Have the Copper Age version. Basically the same but with maple fretboard and a different coat of paint. Always been more of a maple guy. Both are very good looking guitars and very versatile. Always drawn to demos of this guitar to see how other people's styles sound through it.
Yes! One of the main reasons why my demo is so rock focused haha. Couldn't find demos using normal power chords through a marshall-isch amp 🙂 The copper one does look great too! I definitely dig the neck on it!
the TVL seems to really be one of the best JM examples without running into skyrocketing money. Rad demo! I totally feel the "I just wanted a different JM" sentiment :D
Thank you for the response and the suggestion. I've already tried pick up adjustment, further and closer, done set ups, tried different strings. Watched a TON of Puisheen Vids. Next step was Pick ups. So I'm looking forward to your results when and if you post them to RU-vid.
I'll get to it soon, need a new computer to edit the videos 😅 I actually got another jazzmaster so I'll be able to compare the pure vintage and novak back to back easier too. Both have 500k pots.
Mate just bought Troy's jazz master in copper age with a maple neck to me it sounded brighter . I played gretsch guitars you turned me on to jazzmaster guitars. Thanks .your review was excellent.
Man I totally dig all the tones you recorded here. Would have loved to hear the neck pickup on its own though too! I’m realizing so many tones I really love are only found through a JM
Ah didn't even realize. I usually use the neck for all clean parts. Must've decided to use the middle position haha. Don't worry I'll make more videos on this one!
I [played one of these in store and the neck really stood out. I plan on getting one at some point but it does seem very similar to my 60th anniversary jazzmaster.
Hey bro your style is awesome! That secons riff was SICK. I have a similar playing style and taste for riff styling, very Alternative/grunge inspired personally. Keep kicking azz brother!
@@alexradsbyAppreciate the comment my friend. Just another word on your video is I also think that Troy's Jazz P-90's need some more UMPH lol. It's GORGEOUS, but a bit of thickness will be fantastic sonically. I agree 💯%!
Usually I play with just the neck pickup when I want a heavy riff with my Jazzmaster. The bridge pickup would be used to cut through things especially if another guitarist has a humbucker. TVL JMs are beautiful guitars and Troy is a guitarist I’m glad is getting more recognition
I only use neck pickup for clean tones actually. Tend to EQ amps after the bridge pickup. 😅 I don't listen to Troy that much but what I do know is that he's a super versatile guitarist. Definitely deserves all good things coming his way for sure!
@@alexradsby if you haven’t already start with Queens of the Stone Age its pretty much the band he is best known for being in. I love how his playing compliments Josh Homme’s guitar parts which a lot of heavy riffing
@@alexradsby It took time for me to click I must admit, but once they click, they clicked and I couldn’t stop. Like Clockwork is my personal favorite album of theirs
That is a gorgeous guitar, my guy. I actually just got my AVII Jazzmaster and I held my breath as I unboxed it. Turns out, I got lucky. It's a pretty flawless instrument. The Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzy was actually my second choice, but they were sold out where I live. I'd actually recommend them over the AVII; if only because it's a tossup on the quality of guitar you might or might not get. Keep on playing!
I don’t think it will be discontinued. In my country (Australia), Fender’s official website still sell these models. I’m hoping to get one someday. Because I love the colour of the Jazzmaster. Maybe the discontinuation depends on the country you live in I guess. Heck even my local guitar shop sells them still.
my favourite guitar! I got a used one for half the price with a mastery already installed! Nothing will ever beat this colour for me! Can look black in certain lights, and then a nice brownish red in others! My rosewood board is a bit on the lighter side too, compared to my J masics JM with the rosewood board, that thing is almost ebony dark with that nice red hue to it too.
That's awesome to hear!! To darken the board I would recommended Monty's Relic Wax. It's great. www.montysguitars.com/products/montys-montypresso-relic-wax
Funny story, I sold my Jim Root MIM JM to purchase the TVL JM. I came here to watch the video and burst out laughing when you said that you did the same. The Jim Root JM is an awesome guitar. I just want to put that out there. It just wasn’t for me at this point in my musical journey. Maybe I’ll grab one later on in life just to have it around .
I'm not 100% sure about it but I definitely noticed discontinued statuses here and there. Hopefully they'll keep the color, it's the best one for sure!
Congrats man! I ordered one, but it has a Pau Ferro fretboard and I’m disappointed that Fender are not using rosewood on a $1,700 guitar, but they are using Rosewood on a cheaper Vintera II range. 😢 Oh Well.
Any Follow up with the Curtis Novak pickups? I'm considering doing the very same mod but not sure if its the pickups, or the pot values at 500K Vs 1meg? Seems like I really have to dig in to get what I want and if I roll the volume back my signal disappears.
Hi! I haven't installed them yet actually, been a bit busy overall. A quick thing to try out is raising the pickups closer to the strings. It might help 🙂
Rosewood comes in light colors sometimes also..you can use lemon oil and other oils to darken it..pau ferel is just as good as roswood.its actually considered a harder wood..i dont know were everyone got it in there head rosewood was so much better..its not.also,if that were made in usa,it would be over 4k so be glad its made in mexico
It's just me or the mexico fender are mutch more accurate in therme of finish? I struggle to buy another am vintage, the last one are in poor condition, even my chines squier is in better finis than the last am vintage i have recived...
I haven't noticed this myself but it is an interesting observation. I know that Fender fired 300 people in 2022. It definitely made QA worse for a good while.
It's purely visual for me, it looks too light for me. It's pretty dumb haha but it is what it is. Feel wise it's a bit rougher too, texture-wise but it's not bad in general.
@@alexradsby it's not a dumb reason. I think one should click with his/her own guitar in anyway possible. Having a guitar that looks beautiful to you will make you want to pick it up and play it more often. I own a Mustang vintera and for me the PF fretboard is really great, that's why I like to ask people why they don't like it, because it's a very good wood for a fretboard in my opinion. In any case, thanks for replying :)
@@alexradsby however, I must admit I'm really jealous haha that TVL Jazzy with the beautiful oxblood colour is undoubtedly stunning. I would love to own one. Enjoy it man!
9 out of 10 negative gear comments can be ignored. People love to hate nice things, people love to talk shit, and once someone says something people love to repeat it. With no actual hands on experience at all.
That definitely happens a lot for sure. People tend to post negative things easier when they are unhappy too compared to people who are happy with their gear (no need to post about it online when it works as it should).
It can probably do it. Though jazzmaster has a fatter tone overall. You would reach country faster with a tele but i doesee the reason why it wouldn't work with a Jazzmaster. 🙂
@@caiusmadison2996 Yes of course, this I agree with. I love the AVRI models. That said, I personally prefer the mods that are done for this model. Can't stand the original bridge for example 😅
@alexradsby I agree wholeheartedly, that this model is fantastic. It's one of my faves, however, if you like the TVL, if ever you see one out there, try an AVRI 65' Jazzmaster. They're a bit more rare of the AVRI line-up, but that Jazzmaster is a favorite of Ken Andrew's, an contemporary of TVL from the band Failure.
