Very nice sounding Fender amp. I had one years ago & recently decided I miss what it does badly enough to get another one, or two! Very under-rated Fender amp.
Picked up the 2004 version in an even swap for an old Blackstar Mk1 100W head … the Eminence speakers were horrific and made the dirty channel unusable and the clean channel overly brittle. Swapped them out for a Warehouse Veteran 30 and a Warehouse Invader and now she sounds like a quality 100W tube amp should - have no idea why Fender uses those crappy speakers. Great pedal platform and even without pedals you have two great sounding channels - really all I need for my punk gigs!
I am looking to buy what I believe is a circa 1999 version of this amp which looks identical to the one in the video. I heard this is a very heavy amp, even heavier than a stock fender twin reverb. That true? How would you compare the clean sound to a Fender twin reverb? Otherwise have you had positive experiences with this amp? Would you recommend it?
Yes, it’s heavier than a Twin Reverb. I’ve never played a reissue Twin Reverb. Compared to a Silverface Twin I’d say the 94’ isn’t as warm and loose whilst in clean mode but does a great job at “clean till infinity” if that’s your goal. (Silverface amps with the master volume do an underrated distorted sound when pushed). However, the 94 still has 2 more channels! The vintage gain is pretty great. It’s not as wonderful as a vintage Bassman but I’d describe it as Bassman-like. Great with humbuckers. The modern gain isn’t amazing and I think it works better with single coils than with humbuckers. That said, it adds some different tones and I’ve lately been wondering if swapping the AX7 tube for an AT7 might make it less fizzy.
@@WillieD7I know the post is 3 years old, but a vintage 5731 tube (not a re issue which are just low gain 12ax7 culls) or a 12AY7 in place of the 12AT7 didn’t do the job the first one higher is gain than the AT and is rugged tube triple micas, the AY is lower gain than the AT…the original tube used in the preamps of tweed Bassman amps when switched to 9 pin tubes to prevent distortion.
How does this amp compare to a 65 Fender Twin Reverb? Is the clean channel identical? I am aware this amp has a crunch channel rather than vibrato which is awesome. I also hear this is heavier than a twin reverb. Is this true?
@@chiefline7084 MIX - Adjusts the amount of audible "wet" (processed) signalwhen the variable level effects loop (located on the back panel) isused. When the MIX control is in the full counter-clockwise position("1"), the "wet" signal will not be audible. When the MIX control isin the full clockwise position ("10"), only the "wet" signal will beheard (depending on the type of effect used). When nothing isplugged into the EFFECTS RETURN jack (located on the rear panel),the MIX control will have no effect on the sound.
