Fenestraria rhopalophylla -locally known as the window plant or baby toes is one of South Africa and Namibia’s most adorable succulents, it has been widely commercially grown around the world as a ornamental pot plant. Fenestraria rhopalophylla is the only species in the genus. Each leaf has a little epidermal window at its rounded tip, (the plant is also named after these window-like structures (Latin: fenestra)) The Fenestraria’s hide deep in dune sand keeping them cool from the desert sun, only the leave tips with the windows are visible, the windows lets the sunlight through and the sunlight is then quickly funnelled down to the base of the leave that is deep underground where photosynthesis can happen and the plant can make its food. A very clever strategy if you wish to be hidden from herbivores and the sun. #succulents #succulove #succulentsofinstagram #succulentlove #desertlife #desert #desertplants #nature #naturegram #naturelovers #namibia #namibiatourism #flower #flowerstagram #flowerfolklore #hiking #hikingadventures #windowplants #capetown
