A father shares his story of losing his 22-year-old son to a fentanyl patch. Illicit fentanyl is a dangerous, life-threatening drug frequently found in other illicit drugs and results in the death of 200 people per day in the US. This is just one of those stories and delivers an urgent warning to avoid all illicit drugs.

Naloxone, the active ingredient in 4mg Narcan and higher dose 8mg Kloxxado, along with many generic versions, can reverse an opioid overdose if administered quickly enough. Some areas have Naloxone available for free. Google it.

Jordan's testimony was shared beautifully by your father, I'm so sorry for your loss 🙏🏼 I have substance use disorder and have been in active recovery for 7 years on April 3rd this year, my own issues began similarly to Jordan's with a legitimate prescription for Hydrocodone after a procedure I had to have after finding out my pregnancy was not viable at 16 weeks gestation, I was very young, just turned 18 & it was my first pregnancy and although I was not prepared to be a mother I was very emotionally distraught by the loss of the babies I was carrying so when I began taking the medication for legitimate acute pain during this period of time I quickly realized that the opioids affected my brain in a way that not only relieved my physical pain, but also my emotional pain and it became a crutch to overcome that as well as a lot of other emotional pain I had bottled up from my childhood traumas... it's so hard to understand how substance use disorders affect an individual, but these testimonies shared about those who have lost their lives to this disease help to better understand and empathize with those who have the disease, I'm so grateful for each person who's shared here and I pray that all of those affected by this horrible disease whether directly or indirectly as a loved one who's suffering watching their family or friends suffer with addiction, can have peace that surpasses all understanding and that those who are currently suffering can find the strength through God to seek help and get healthy again & live a long and prosperous life 🙏🏼🤍

I must applaud this father for acknowledging that his son was also culpable for his own death. That doesn’t make him a bad person, he had an addiction. This family and their late son seem like great people. I love that his other son hit a home run on the day he learned his brother died. That is perseverance. Sad this happened but his story will help others. Thanks for sharing.

Because all of these stories are different. Some kids it’s in the weed. So no it’s not a kids fault when they drop dead from one hit of weed. The government can’t keep it out. Not every story is some drug addict. People weren’t dropping dead back in the day from one pill. This isn’t normal. We need to stop blaming these people for taking one pill that is actually laced they are poisoned so no it’s not their fault.

Oral systemic enzymes can help with pain too. I use Medizym. But I was just so shocked that oral surgeon would have just like that sent me back to all my responsibilities with addictive pain meds. Very sorry to hear this. Cherish those little ones, because they are absolutely GOLD. One of the hardest things that we have struggled with, was the fact that Jordan would never have that opportunity to be a Dad. I know it's hard just look at those children and not be very emotional, but it truly is a blessing that she has left a part of her with you on earth(x3). Keep your head up, and educate those children. God bless.

First of all I am really sorry for your loss and that the past decade has been as dark as it has. I have looked at a dozen of these interviews on this channel and this is the one that stands out to me because of the way you delivered the message. Your way of speaking struck me as warm. Warmth gently propelled by grief that is, and as tragic as the subject is, there is a sort of calm that radiates off of the way you instinctively structure your sentences. You are a speaker that naturally enhances peoples abilities to listen, conceptualize and interpret. I am trying to say, you are a beautiful speaker and I encourage you to let go of any and all insecurities with regards to public or on-record speaking if you can. Simply because you, in my opinion, are a great speaker. I just wish the subject would have never existed. I will put you in my prayers tonight if you don't mind, sir. I am writing this from the city of Amsterdam. Fair to say your message has some serious reach. I wish you all the best, and nothing less. Omar.

Thank you for sharing your story. I'm so sorry for your loss. My 3 time suicide survivor story starts with my 43 year-old brother after a botched hip replacement surgery... addicted to Oxy. It moves on to my Bestie, Roger J. Dart, from Leawood, KS who shot himself with his service revolver. He was a paramedic for many years who had an ER physician give him scripts for pills... they would go to "swing" parties together. Your local dealer may just be your local ER doctor. He transitioned to the Police Academy before he took his life. And the third, for me, was my Dad. Yup... 86 years old. Fentanyl patches were his curse - for osteoperosis and arthritis pain. He took his own life with a Ithaca 22. These drugs and the reliance on them can present as suicidal ideations. Such an incidious web we weave. Keep sharing. You dont know who you may help.

Thank you for the kind words, and I'm incredibly sorry loss of all those important people in your life. Many do not understand the correlation between addiction, and the current suicide rate. Incredible man this Father is. Every child deserves a parent like him. I don’t have children cause they don’t make men like him anymore. He reminds of my dad. I spent all last summer in the ICU due to my addiction. My dad lives deep in NJ and was at hospital by my bedside everyday in NYC. My bf even made a a video of him talking to me so gently while in a coma. Unfortunately I still have addiction issues, despite every single thing I went thru in the hospital and recovery learning how to walk and talk again, worst pain of my life, dropped 30lbs, blood transfusions, pneumonia getting pricked with needles constantly, countless amount of MRI and cat scans major surgery that left me with a huge scar on my belly etccc. Leaving for a long term rehab next month. My 4th time trying. I can’t live like this anymore or put my loved ones thru hell again. RIP to your beautiful son ❤

Sir, I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I'd had a dad like you. You shared this tragic story with grace and love. I know you love your son and it's shocking to me that it was 2012 and here we are today so many other folks and young folks dying. Thank you for sharing and again I'm sorry.

And what's sad is that, substance abuse disorder is genetic. I was a lot like this father. He had no idea his son was addicted till it was too late. I knew my son was an addict but had no idea he was hooked on opioids. I was prescribed opioids for a wisdom tooth removal in my 20s took all the pills prescribed, didn't get hooked. My son on the other hand overdosed on opioids and died. We need to create an inner cheek swab test to test for substance abuse disorder. Something needs to be done. My condolences. Our stories are similar. My son also didn't initially believe himself to be an addict. He also left the rehab I put him into. He also felt he wasn't like the other addicts. Addiction is mental illness, it's really a substance abuse disorder. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

It is genetic. Yes anyone can get addicted is true. But people with the genetic condition have a higher chance. My great grandmother was an addict, my grandmother and my dad was an alcoholic. All of them on my dads side. I’m an addict. Have been for 18 years. I’m going away to a long term rehab next month and destroy a cycle that has affected my family so badly.

I dont think it should be seen as embarrassing for your family (24:32) because addiction is an illness just like anything else. I wouldn't look at anyone's family differently because they had a child, sibling etc pass away from addiction. I think that unfortunately plays a part in why sometimes people can be reluctant to speak out, but there should be no shame felt, especially when this gentleman did everything he could for his son, and is still continuing to contribute greatly to the community by sharing this son's situation and story. I think it's very brave and commendable and i admire him for being able to do so.

When it comes to taking a prescription of a pain regimen each one of us faces the 50/50 chance of either liking the side effects it makes us feel or we don't. Of course, there are other factors that can increase the chances of addiction. People can have addictive personality disorders and not aware of it until they take medicine with addictive side effects. And there is a lot more medicines that are addictive as well as pain medication. I live with severe chronic pain in my spine. I was in a bad truck accident and it has caused a great deal of pain. However, I never liked taking any pain meds because I didn't like the side effects but it was putting damage on my heart going through the pain each day. I tried every other option before I had to resort to pain regime. I am really sorry for your loss as well as other parents who have lost a child due to addictiveness as well as being killed by fentanyl poisoning. I thank you all for sharing your experiences, your tragedies. God Bless and thank you!

It was only until I started watching independent journalists at the Texas border, did I learn about Fentanyl. It is horrifying enough knowing that extreme criminals from other countries are being let in, to then go on to commit other horrific crimes on US citizens, but becoming knowledgeable about the cartel manufacturing and/or getting it across the border in mass quantities was also horrifying. The documentaries that I’ve seen are absolutely heart breaking. Their only goal is to make money and create addicts to make even more money. I’d been interested to see the statistics of deaths by Fentanyl over the last four years compared to the four years prior. I might go research that. 😢

What a brave young man to divulge having an issue with narcitics to his dad..I sympathize with Jordan with withdrawls .. Im sure he felt helpless..I started out with a legit back injury ... Vicodin ..I went though them when the doctors started to get scared and cut patients off abruptly..I was on them for 13 years..I too was ambivalent..I didnt feel I was an addict. But the opioids became a huge part of my life ..I didnt feel it was that bad .Im very sorry for the outcome but thank God he could talk to you .

What about educating the doctors that are creating addicts by prescribing narcotics for every type of surgery! When I had my wisdom teeth out I wasn't given anything like that! With all the surgeries I've had, and I've had many, I finally just had to tell them, don't give me that sh#t! I did have to have it for one or two surgeries BUT I insisted on a script for 10 pills or less. I am so very sorry for your loss! May God continue to bless you and your family on this difficult journey!

I told a Dr. I once worked with, that his colleagues are the main responsibility for this epidemic. He completely agreed. This is a re accuring theme. Along with the abject fear of weed. Which Ive never really heard of weed starting an addoction to opiates. Im sure it has been mentioned as a step towards opiate addiction. But, it usually starts with that first RX.
