Fenugreek is a strong spice so I started eating sprouted fenugreek seeds, they're cheap and delicious. I'm curious if the effect is the same, I had never heard of testosterone, I was doing it because I prefer maple syrup armpits to rotten onion armpits after sweaty exercise. The samples in these studies were very small. The first study on male strength had only 49 subjects. The number of the second study on morning erection didn't mention a number. The third study was on 80 women. Like a lot of Greger's stuff, there is wishful thinking that suggests something may work but the numbers are too small to draw a meaningful conclusion. Some of his studies do have a large number where reasonable conclusions can be drawn but many have small numbers of test subjects.

As far as safety during pregnancy (3:27) you should look at about how much is consumed in the Indian diet by pregnant woman and if there is any statistical risk. Considering India is 1.38 Billion people, it clearly doesn't end all pregnancy, however I could see westerners using it in isolation as a supplement accidentally over doing it, and ending a pregnancy.

Most of these studies are on "Fenugreek extract" supplements not whole food Fenugreek. How many grams of Fenugreek would you have to consume to hope for similar benefits to these Fenugreek extract studies? Are we talking 1-2g (1/4 - 1/2 tsp) per day? Or larger amounts like 4-12g (1tsp - 1tbsp) or more? EDIT: Looked at a few of the highlighted studies and it looks like 10-12g / day of Fenugreek would get you similar compound levels to the Fenugreek extract supplements. I like a lot of flavor in my diet, but 10-12g of Fenugreek a day is still a lot of Fenugreek.

I've become a great believer in the effects of grounding (putting one's feet/skin in direct contact with the earth so that the body becomes electrically grounded). Grounding reduces the stickiness of blood, making it thinner. Unfortunately, I'm past the age of menstruating so I can't test it, but I wonder if grounding would reduce painful periods due to its ability to thin blood. I used to suffer with incredibly painful periods and I would have loved all of these wonderful suggestions back then.

Does this have any effect or increase in the promotion of prostate cancer? I mean does Fenugreek stimulate testosterone which stimulates the prostate? 60yrs old, I have a very irritable prostate with a high PSA. I find ginger will increase my erection after I eat a lot for about 3 days. Then after a few days the stimulating effect of ginger sort of goes away.; The body gets used to the ginger. I also eat pumpkin seeds for the prostate. And green tea. And turmeric. And cranberry. And hot pepper. Thanks Doc.😂👍
@xcast1
@xcast1 2 года назад
Enough zinc if most important for prostate health. Most vegans are zinc deficient according blood levels in studies - due to high phytate in diet - and more so with older age! (Pumpkin seeds don't do much for that because the phytate blocks zinc.) Look up video of Dr Mobeen on zinc and prostate. Best take about 6mg/day zinc supplement as zinc bisglycinate. The studies in this video are small. And less data probably for extra questions about prostate...

I might not have a final answer for you, but I can share a perspective. The body is unbelievably complex. The more complexity an entity has, the more possibilities there are for something to go wrong. Especially when placed in a sub-optimal environment. Our bodies are surrounded by destabilizing forces, such as toxins, physical and emotional stressors, and social pressures that lead to unhealthy lifestyles. Yes, the body is impressive in its ability to self-regulate, but given all these interfering factors the body sometimes needs a little help rebalancing. In an extreme example, imagine you get pierced with a sharp object and start bleeding out. Your body is doing its best to stop the bleeding and heal the wound, but it needs you to intervene also because it will not heal quickly enough on its own.

The modern man might need to increase his testosterone with supplementation since he is most likely sitting at a desk instead of chopping wood i.e. Our bodies have not evolved at the same rate as society has shifted, therefore we experience a physical "lag" with many symptoms of maladjustment. I'd say obesity is the most prevalent and obvious example of this. Symptoms of the SAD diet like lowered testosterone are more subtle yet still very prevalent. A hormonal imbalance can cause a cascade of symptoms that hinder health and quality of life significantly.

Sorry for the long message. But I just thought I'll mention this. I used to get a lot of abscesses and eczema in my skin when I used to eat meat. I used to get it like once in 3 months. And then the dermatologist would prescribe some medication for 2 weeks till it goes. When I went vegan 3 years ago it reduced significantly. But I still got it on 2 occasions in the last 3 years. The first time I took some medication for a few weeks till it went away. The second instance I got it was very recent. During that time I used to have a fenugreek sprouts once a months or so. So after about 2 days after getting the abscess the fenugreek sprouts were ready to eat. And after I had the sprouts the next morning the abscess was fully gone. I didn't know or expect fenugreek would cure it. I just took it cz I take it about once a month. It was fully gone in a day. If I had taken medication for a dermatologist I would have ended up spending around 50$ and it would take 2 weeks for it cure as well. I'm not a doctor or nutrition scientist but I'm just mentioning my experience. I hope it gives something to think about.
