Still remember the night jock died. All of Scotland 🏴 mourned (some didn’t) a giant in the game. Winning the European Cup with a squad of all Scots was incredible.
Shankly came up to Stein after the '67 final and said, "John, you're immortal." And so he is. I support both Liverpool and Rangers, and as much as I also admire Fergie, I wish we'd had Jock Stein in the dugout in Mexico. Anyone who doesn't isn't the full shilling.
This is the best interview I've ever seen with Alex Ferguson. The interviewer obviously knows his stuff, gets Fergie's trust and then it just flows. And Ferguson's memory for teams, players and formations even from the early 60s is astonishing.
Although I never supported Celtic as a boy, Jock Stein was still my hero. He truly made good teams great. He was a wonderful, principled character who never forgot his working class roots.
Fergie loved Stein and rightly so. Really enjoyable to see Fergie happy and tell such great stories about Jock! Stein was a brilliant manager just brilliant! RIP Jock Stein.
When Jock was a Celtic player the whole team went to Wembeley to see the famous Hungarian team play England in 1953. Jock liked what he saw and tried to emulate that style of play.
Alex Ferguson for all his success will never let you tell him he is the G.O.A.T. He will always defer to Jock Stein as the G.O.A.T. Greatest Of All Time
Kudos to Alex, just shows how close the old firm actually were, in terms of friendship - in spite of the hatred that the press sold. Never seen this before, really great video.
The importance and influence of Jock Stein must never be underestimated. When you watch and read old interviews with him, you can hear quite a bit of Sir Alex Ferguson in there.
Why the hell has this got 37 dislikes? Are they people with one brain cell or something? This is a unique insight into British/Scottish football history, insider info!
A great man talking about a legend....great to watch Edit: Remember when Scotland produced the likes of Davie Cooper etc we actually had world class players
Jock was my hero when I was growing up in Glasgow in the 60's now I'm finding out the detail. As a kid I knew there was something so special and fair about the man..
People forget Stein was so far ahead in the game' that he won the European Cup with players that all stayed within a 30 mile radius. They were also all Scottish, and that's not being racist or anything else, it's just a fact. What a way to pass away after "Supper Cooper" put us on the way to another World Cup. The fact Graeme Souness was crying in the dressing room says it all. Legendary Manager whose mantra was without fans there wouldn't be any football. JINKY JOHNSTONE, DAVIE COOPER, TOMMY GEMMELL, SANDY JARDINE, etc, etc, etc!!! You could go on all night mentioning all the other great players that Scotland had back in the 'auld days' n that's without mentioning KING KENNY. THEY ALL IDOLIZED JOCK STEIN, May he rest in peace, as Bill Shankly said of his great friend (" JOCK, YOU ARE IMMORTAL ") W.C. in K.P. - 1968 -
@ShiftCtrl85 tbh jock really should have taken the utd job...if im correct he gave the then utd chairman his word that he would but ended up reneging because of personal reasons. But then we wouldn't have had fergie so.....
I rem Alex Ferguson when he was manager of St Mirren going round the town in a van with PA on it. Saying come out and support your local team. No airs or graces with Ferguson when trying to encourage support of his team.
S O Achumfaegovan plastered on his desk at old Trafford....Ferguson has never had a bad word for anyone from back in the day....never forgot his roots which always impressed me
Great interview and memories. They should have had Fergie on in that 65 Cup Final - if nothing else he'd have stopped Billy McNeil at set plays.....I believe he's a good hearted man.
Born and raised Scottish Celt here, but my grandad was from Manchester and watched the babes when he was a young man. Scottish football has been marginalised in recent years due to tv money artificially inflating some leagues to the detriment of others. Even today I seen a comment "what's the point of Scottish football?" Stein, Busby, Shanks and Fergie. But tbh, the saddest thing for me isn't that the game is being ruined by money, but the lack of kids I see kicking a ball in the street.
100% agree, whoever came up with the design of they shorts must have been working in the textiles up in HMP LOW MOSS n done it for laugh!!! W.C. in K.P. - 1968 -
Aye ... it's making me greet like a bairn...f*#k, it makes me proud.. Lisbon 🦁 Lions & Big Jock; Fergie with Aberdeen & later with Man I ( which many of us would have seen as a Scottish club in exile ) and my own father who knew and loved Matt Busby, ( they came fae the same street, as )...and Dear God; wee Jinkie Johnson.... Just listening to Fergie is making me so bloody Homesick.. so...there is a part of "Barry Lyndon '...where Barry burst into tears in front of the Chevalier and Michael Hordern's narrator described the riush of emotion from an exile upon hearing the accents of his home place after such a long time ; well that's me.Right now...
jock stein was and always will be the boss of bosses.im a rangers fan and not only did big jock win all the trophies he had the foresight to mould the likes of sir alex.however i think after jock steins death while being scotland manager that a resentment was formed.
Just to think without the master Jock Stein they`re might never have been a Sir Alex Ferguson. It `s a funny old game right enough as Jimmy Greaves used to say . What a tragic loss to Scottish and World Football the death of Jock Stein was and has been. 💓💓👊
couple of pricks as known fae there muckers but with magical feet and brains and the sheer class to serve any stage that came there way and conquered many a feet the true Celtic people . God bless the lions and all the happiness we have had ever since . God bless yous all .
7:01 damn, football has come a long way. "You'll get a ball on Saturday, son. You'll be hungry for it" 🤣😂🤣😂 "when do we EVER do fast walking in the game?" 🤣😂🤣😂
@@Gk1lo it is disrespectful the way you worded it, the man had a heart attack during a prolonged period of stress, his heart didn't just "pop out of joy" Have a little respect, the man is a legend
2:49 Fergie might've learnt this from Jock Stein because the staff at united say that he did this as well... Knew everybody's name and would chat/mess with them now and again
I could listen to Stein, Fergie Walter Smith talk about football all day long......throw Jim McLean into that mix too. The study of these guys should be part of the school curriculum for boys.
Are you kidding? That’s the legendary Celtic captain, Billy McNeil on the left and John Clark on the right. Two members of the magnificent Lisbon Lions of 1967! Celtic won every competition they entered that 1966/67 season (FIVE), and became the first British side to win the European Cup. I believe this is a record that stands to this day! John is apparently still working at Celtic FC.
John Clark legendary Lisbon lion and world class sweeper For Celtic Still there The greatest Celtic servant Of all time Still kit man A legend Is John Clark
