Sir Alex Ferguson has given his under-fire successor David Moyes a vote of confidence and revealed Roman Abramovich offered him the chance to leave Manchester United when he took over at Chelsea in 2003.
In his first major interview since leaving Old Trafford in May, Ferguson also ruled out any possibility of a return to the dug-out, saying he no longer got 'worked up' over United's results.
Speaking to interviewer Charlie Rose on American network PBS, Ferguson said: 'United are in good hands with David Moyes. He will be fine. He's a good manager.'

Sir Alex is not only the greatest manager in football history, but also sporting history. He's won 38 trophies at man utd and 49 trophies in all (a record by miles), built and rebuilt teams multiple times, re-established United at the top of football after 20 years in the doldrums, he's unearthed great players (Ronaldo, Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, etc.) and had an aura about him nobody else does. Critics love to point out his "only" two European cups but conveniently leave out his other 47 trophies! Will never be anyone like him!

Ferguson's success is what we judged Van gaal, moyes and Mourinho by. Ferguson won the title and played teams off the park with decent players like Smalling, Jones,Evans,Rafael, Gibson etc The moment he left, it all fell apart and these players were nowhere to be seen in terms of their performances. Ferguson was a legend, how he managed to win with the players he had in the later part of his career. Mourinho couldn't. He called it one of his greatest achievements to have finished second.

U know how crappy that United team was? If it wasn’t for SAF, we wouldn’t had won the title
@khalid7377
@khalid7377 9 лет назад
Why would they get someone who knows nothing about football to talk for an hour with the greatest manager of all time? He doesn't have a clue. He's just reading questions off of some paper. Also it's really annoying when he just interrupts SAF and goes off on a tangent asking him about something different entirely.
@olisamaduegbuna7909
@olisamaduegbuna7909 9 лет назад
He isn't the greatest manager of all time. He's not even the greatest manager in Britain. Bob Paisley won more trophies in a shorter period of time at Liverpool than Alex Ferguson won in a longer period of time at Manchester United. Not only did he win a record number of English league titles but Paisley is the only manager in history to win 3 European Cups with the same club.
@IIXRATEDIIHiTMAN
@IIXRATEDIIHiTMAN 9 лет назад
Olisa Maduegbuna Best British Managers: 1) Brian Clough (genius on and off the fieldwho took a second division club to champions of europe) 2) SAF 3) Paisley
@olisamaduegbuna7909
@olisamaduegbuna7909 9 лет назад
IIXRATEDIIHiTMAN How do you put SAF above Paisley? That's nuts. Paisley won much more in a shorter period of time. His Liverpool teams were the most successful in English football history and even today his trophy haul means despite the tide of success flowing towards Manchester since the early 90's, Liverpool have still recorded the most trophies in English history (41) compared to Manchester United's 39.
@IIXRATEDIIHiTMAN
@IIXRATEDIIHiTMAN 9 лет назад
Olisa Maduegbuna Paisely had an amazing 8 or 9 years, winning 3 european cups which is unprecedented but he ultimately inherited an extremely strong side from Bill Shankly who was the one who brought liverpool up from second division obscurity to a top team but Bob got all the eventual glory. Paiselys relatively short-term success is unmatched though. SAF on the other side inherited the worst united side since the Munich air disaster and went on to win the league 13 times, created a youth philosophy which nurtured the most successful english talent of this generation without any doubt and he held that position for 26 years which I doubt will be emulated in our life times. For that reason alone he's above Paisley. Imagine the same manager dominating at Madrid or Bayern or United or Liverpool or any top club for 26 years... Its unthinkable! The only reason Clough is ahead was his genius off the field, he was just as special an individual away from football which Ferguson never seemed.
@olisamaduegbuna7909
@olisamaduegbuna7909 9 лет назад
IIXRATEDIIHiTMAN Paisley only retired after just 9 years due to health reasons. But how long a manager stays is irrelevant. What is important is how much they win in their period in time at the helm. Wenger has been and I'm sure will continue to be at Arsenal for so long yet I doubt when the History books are written that Wenger will win more with Arsenal than Mourinho will do with Chelsea. Will people then say oh Wenger led for so long so should be seen as a greater manager? Length of tenure is irrelevant. Mourinho's greater success albeit in a shorter period of time at Chelsea will stand him in greater stead in the history books. And you ignore the fact that Paisley had been Shankly's right hand man throughout Shankly's era of laying the foundations. Paisley was responsible for player recruitment. He presided over both during his time as assistant and head manager, over some of the best transfers in English football. The real success came when Paisley turned 'Shankly's foundations' into real accomplishments. Yes Fergie took over a less successful United side but it wasn't like Fergie didn't have great predecessors before him - Mat Busby was the one who picked up the pieces from the Munich disaster and his youth policy (the Busby Babes) started success at Man United (winning a European cup) before SAF came. Yes SAF achieved a lot and was able to continue working for so long due to the wonders of modern medicine but SAF didn't build something from nothing either. United had recovered from the Munich disaster much much earlier before SAF came. Trophies are the bread and butter of a club's legacy and history. Paisley won much more in various competitions in a much shorter period of time than SAF could have dreamed of achieving at Man United. SAF stayed for so long yet won much less in comparison. Paisely's Liverpool was one of the most successful in club football history not to talk of just English history. Only teams which can be compared are the Barca side of the late 2000's under Guardiola and the late 90's AC Milan team. Growing old on the job doesn't mean a thing. Winning trophies is what counts.

Thomas Dauphan well your right I’m with you but they are point based leagues and there’s relegation .., if nfl teams had relegation they wouldn’t tank seasons because they know they get their share of money even if they finish last. Not disagreeing with you at all but I wish the nfl had a consequence for finishing in the bottom that would really devastate them financially like the premier league that’s all. That would make it even more awesome for the nfl
@Bobby.2000
@Bobby.2000 3 года назад
@Thomas Dauphan the difference between United under Ferguson and the other teams you mentioned is that United hadn't won the league for 20 years and he built them up to win the league and made them that dominant. They used youth players and only brought players because United earnt their own money from sustained success. Where as the other teams were brought buy billionaires and had all the money to just buy whoever they want to get their league titles. It was the only way teams could compete with Ferguson's united. That's how great Ferguson was at management. He built a monster team that would have had at least 17 titles in 21 years if not for the billionaires coming in to make average to poor teams able to be filled with world class players to compete and win some battles, but even then Ferguson's united still won the wars. Every time. Look what's happened to United since he left. Haven't come close. Such is the greatness of the man and his management.

I am not a Liverpool fan for one thing. I certainly accept Sir Alex is the greatest Scottish manager of all time. His acheivements cannot be questioned or devalued. Neither can those of Bob Paisley. I feel Paisley is better for one reason. He won 3 European Cups in 9 seasons when it was harder to qualify. Fergie won 2 European Champions Cups from 1990-2013 with far greater resources. It was easy for Liverpool in Paisley's time? What about beating Real Madrid in 1981? Are they an easy team too?

As a Liverpool supporter of 30 years standing I'll happily say Fergie is a class act. One of the very first on the phone to Liverpool after Hillsborough, when the establishment were concentrating on the blame game, Fergie sent a coach load of supporters with flowers and wreaths to Anfield in sympathy and solidarity.

This interview highlights what an awesome guy Fergie is. Being interviewed by a yank and being so incredibly patient and polite. Not saying there is anything wrong with yanks, it's just that he obviously doesn't know too much about what he is on about. Kind of shows that Fergie wasn't the cunt he was made out to be in British media. People say he gave the media and interviewers shit, but I think this shows that the interviewers themselves are the ones that caused the problems. Show respect to him as is done here, he will do the same.
