HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT IVE BEEN LISTENING TO DISCO MUSIC FOR 35 YEARS SINCE 1980 AND THAT I HAVE TO DISCOVER THIS RECORD IN 2015? THE BEST DISCO RECORD EVER MADE!
DJDanceClassic I agree with you somewhat, the first time I heard it was 1980...(I was 15 yrs old)It was introduced to me by my best friend who liked it as well and recorded it off the radio onto cassette! lol I personally never heard it on the radio ever! I relocated to another city and my friend and I would see each other whenever I came into town, but we both kind of forgotten about the song over the years...for the last time I heard it was when I lived there. (1980) In 1995 My friend passed away... later in 2013, while reminiscing about my friend, I remembered that song! With technology and computers going on today, I was able to hear it once again! It was tantamount to discovering the Titanic 100yrs after it sanked. I listen to it in retrospect and envision my friend and I walking down the streets of Bflo NY in the winter, him carrying that ghetto blaster (big radio) while we lplayed that song to death!Glad you like it!
DJDanceClassic this version is a re-edit of the original from back in the day. IF you can find this version on vinyl, it sells for about $100 a copy. Took me 4 years to find someone willing to sell theirs. Such an amazing tune.
+peter oates www.discogs.com/Channel-83-Tonight/release/1854480 as you can see, discogs doesnt even have any for sell. People rarely part with their copy. But add it to your wish list...once in a blue moon one will show up. A friend in the uk got me my copy for my birthday..it was about the equivalent of $150.00 usd. Happy hunting!
Came here from Jessie Ware’s Interview for gaytimes, where she said that during the AIDS epidemic in New York, they would always play this song in clubs at the end of the night
"I learnt from James Ford through Harry Midland - the producer - the significance of Fern Kinney’s record Love Me Tonight. Apparently during the AIDS epidemic in New York, this would be the closing song they’d play [at clubs]. It’s such a beautiful song. So many people were losing their loved ones and friends and it became really significant. I was so intrigued by the story. I love that song but it takes on a whole new significance now I know the history and the context of it."
A disco classic from 1981 with Fern's smooth, sweet and sexy voice. '' Love Me Tonight'' along with '' Let The Good Times Roll '' was a minor hit in US disco charts (#30).One of the best disco tunes ever released by Malaco Records.
This song is so seductive, my eyes are filled with disco ball stars spangling, I'm adrift in this woman's chocolaty sweet voice, I want to be lost in the Funk Love that emanates from this track forever....my oh my
From discogs: this edit was made by The Channel 83 boys (aka Damon Martin and Ben Rymer from Fat Truckers and Gucci Soundsystem) were super clever and relevant in the editing process as they took bits of the 1980 Sho-Nuff original (the killer bassline, dreamlike bells and shuffle), added to Fern Kinney's 1981 cover's slightly goofy helium-like vocals and spacey keyboards parts.
i keep listening to this, you can find it on Resident Advisor, came from podcast 139 Disco Bloodbath... which is amazing by the way (not mine at all). it's what music is all about! funky dunky delic... enjoy.. i think i'm off to a little party here
@Arseniusss it's definitely Fern Kinney, Sho-Nuff has a song with a similar name from the album Tonite, 1980, and a extended version released in 1981. This song is an extended version of Kinney's Love me Tonight first released with the album Fern in 1981. The only thing similar is that both Sho-Nuff and Fern's albuns where released by Malaco Records.
its soem bootleg/edit, my friend picked it up in the local record store here (Plugd, cork, Ireland), there isnt much detail on the 12' its elf but when i meet him next i'll take a better look. its absolutely amazing.
I hope this wonderful mix is the one on the Horse Meat Disco CD which I intend to get. Thanks for posting. Tis sitting very pretty on my 'dar profile :)
@Arseniusss are you sure... I'd be very interested to know... if you listen to both versions I'm pretty sure this is Fern Kinney... it's just awe-some :)
