Join Fernando Alonso for a flying lap around Spa. This is the closest most of us will get to driving a Formula 1 car! For more F1® videos, visit www.Formula1.com Follow F1®: / f1 / formula1 / f1 / formula1 / f1 #F1
To be fair, an F1 game with a simple home setup with a decent force feedback wheel and helmet view is not bad. Can also get an idea of how difficult it is to drive too ;) Obviously still no where near the real thing, but pretty cool. Especially doing the same track with a normal car after in an F1 car, the F1 has sooo much more grip.
@@sylviestar5520 There’s days when a random fan plucked out of one of the grandstands would be better than Crofty. He didn’t start off this way. I’m sure Sky must be constantly telling him to get more shouty and “exciting”.
@Ryan 420 "unusual for a v6".. It's the opposite. The hybrid cars have massive amounts of energy being recovered through the turning of the rear wheels and make much more torque than the previous generation engines. A higher torque output also means there is higher torque required on input from the driveline when off throttle.
@Toasted' Nugget_' Also the track isn't, it's just the sides of the track. That are bumpy. The tacks do have slight elevation change though. But it's all gradual to keep consistency.
I think you might be surprised how little they use their mirrors! These guys know where an overtaking move is likely to happen based on instincts, corner characteristics, the tow you're providing for the guy behind and how well you've come off a corner etc. Using your mirrors is one of the biggest distractions - it would be so easy to miss your breaking point etc if you're concentrating overly on what's happening behind.
@@MrSpanks Not quite, everything you've said is correct but they check their mirrors quite a lot just to confirm that the driver behind them is actually where they think they are, they just do it incredibly quickly so you don't notice it often.
I think their gonna do that. Every weekend a certain driver would have to do this helmet cam. I hope that happens. It’s the first time it’s been broadcasted live.
I think Hamilton would have something to say about that. But, he is definitely the most unconventional. That steering wheel flip should make him spin more, but it doesn’t. No one throws a car into a turn, adjusts the car accordingly, and speeds away like Alonso. No one.
my head hurts watching this. i don't think i can drive one of these things in a race. they need to clear out the whole track and remove the barriers for me to drive. Mazepin - yes bring it on.
This rookie shows skill, I don't think any of the other rookies could have held off Hamilton like he did. I would say he could even be world champion one day.
I believe it was Paul Tracey who had one of these fitted in his helmet for one of the indycar races years ago, not sure if very late 90' or early 00's. Probably a video on YT somewhere
@@nickwonttell8584 they still have these in indy as far as i am aware Indy have 360 Panning RoolHoop Cams Nose Cams and these fitted to some of the cars Still love that even Grosjean produces this kind of content as an individual as well
@@dinozamparelli6790 It could be said that the Indycar angle is less what the driver sees but it is more useful for seeing the action. And regardless its been a regular broadcast feature for years. F1 is lagging behind.
This camera is superb, love to watch this (4 times already done and it is counting). 👍 I love that Fernando Alonso still has the skills and drive amazingly fast. ¡Vamos Fernando! 🇪🇦🏆👏
@@timotiusfabian5743 their job is to entertain. And sometimes entertaining means you have to take a step back and let things happen. They could have said everything that they said 2 minutes later.
This used to happen back in the days before Crofty. If you watch past races, the commentary was never so intense and one commentator could count on the other not to talk.
every driver, imagine you put it on just one driver and he crashed first lap. or imagine if they put it in Charles's helmet in Monaco this year for the race
@@trilexi at the japanese gp in 2019 renault had some kind of auto brake bias setting which obviously is illegal but they were caught because it showed up on the dash of their steering wheels
Scotty, if I recall correctly I spoke to you about F1 broadcasting back in '86 and I cannot recall you saying anything about needing to see this view. Please stop misleading the public.
@@ptanyuh from what I remember, in 2013 there used to be a mute commentary button when the BBC used to have TV rights to F1, they also had a detailed live race report for it's time and an option to listen to Radio 5 Live commentary if you wanted that instead of the TV one
@@ptanyuh - you mean there are times when you actually want to hear what he is saying? When he's not talking about all the restaurants he went to the night before he is laughing at his own jokes or explaining them because nobody else is laughing at them. Forget the button and just turn off his microphone permanently.
Really appreciate that they didn't go for the wide angle/fish-eye FOV that we typically see with other helmet-cams (which artificially pumps up the "sense of speed" (groan) and dampens all vibration in the proccess.) This is a so much more visceral and accurate.
This is camera Formula 1 was missing! If F1 is listening, we need the helmet camera during the race, especially when they are battling other drivers for position. Blown away by the amount of corrections Alonso is doing that is missing on the T-camera! Love it!
This should be standard on this channel. Random drivers, so we can really appreciate the skill they have. Alot of people say F1 is just a bunch of cars going round a track fast. After watching this video how can they not marvel at the skill level these drivers have. Even the guys at the back of the grid have mad skills.
Amazing. We need so much more of this and I feel like Grosjean has had influence on this inadvertently. He’s been using this the whole time he’s been in an Indycar and it’s some of his best content. Keep it coming!
I would like to see this on every driver during every race. Imagine heaving this in Siverstone when Max and Lewis came together. Then we would understand the drivers view piont better.
The technology of camera in motorsport, esspcially F1 is such a magical for us a viewer not only see car,the on board, and multiple angle but also see on our eyes the driver perspective himself see on approaching each turn. Long history from the first camera places on the car,now on the driver himself.☺️
I absolutely LOVE that the camera is on eye-hight instead of on top of the helmet, but could the camera not be at the right side of the helmet as well? Then we would truly see a symmetrical perspective of the drivers view.
I have my rFactor head physics set pretty close to this. I love the sense of the massive forces the driver must be feeling - puts you in the seat like nothing else can.
@@thatsawrap5235 I got used to it, so it's not a thing anymore. I actually find most other titles to be too static in comparison. I mean, slingin' a '67 Eagle up the Raidillon on rock-hard bias-ply tyres should be a real pucker-inducin' event, and without the nauseatin' head movement, where's the fun, eh?
Brilliant! Just brilliant to watch. Not only is Alonso my favourite driver but as the commentator said, this is the most realistic portrayal of what an F1 car is like to drive. Let's watch it again!
They need this on every cars so that it will make it very easy for FIA to analyze how the drivers control their car and can also easily investigate the crash incident and how that accident occurred and what did the driver do in their cockpit and these type of questions.
This is amazing. The noise from the engine can be heard. Like I said earlier, F1 should make an app where you can choose the camera from which you want to see.
So awesome to see this! We've been trying to replicate what this would look like in our Triple 65in 4K Mixed Reality Motion Sim Rig for a few months. Turns out it's pretty close!
Earlier I thought MotoGP is most difficult because they are sliding along with bike weight at turns, but after seeing this I could say f1 drivers are really great
I dont think that is an issue, Every team uses different BBal, diff mode etc. on different corners according to car setup. If that was the case teams would have protested against using visor cam
I think it's less about bothering the drivers and more about the teams not wanting to share any info about what they're doing mid race. You can see the steering wheel screen perfectly in this video, and even if they had a reduced info screen, it would be hard to run in that mode for the entire race
Normalize this camera please. It is indeed the closest some of us will get to F1 racing but it feels so much more exciting especially the way they are driving with the vibrations and the engine sounds plus the dash(so we can see details and button changes more often)
I had to /facepalm when I listened to the commentary and them talking about that it's not actually that bad. I've driven Gokarts with helmet cam and even those with basically no suspension allow me to have a more stable camera view during a race. So yes, forces in an F1 car going around a track at speeds like this are pretty violent.
