I loved Fernwood 2Nite as a kid in the 70's. Watching it again, I am still laughing hysterically. Rest in peace Martin Mull (and Fred Willard) thank you for your comedic genius.
Aloha, I remember this show. So happy it popped up; you got me laughing out loud throughout the whole show. Genius improv. I saw Fred Willard in NYC at an improv club, could have been Bud Freeman’s, before he made it big. Martin Mull is hilarious. All the guests are brilliant. Bravo👏🏼🤣🥇😂.
That was an abrupt ending. But anyway, Martin Mull actually put out a comedy album and the that song was a part of it. Here's the track from his album titled: "I'm Everyone I Ever Loved" - It's "The Humming Song." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qRSAiZoONP4.htmlsi=hofAvTtd85__d4ua
Oh damn you are right, he has Norm's way of speaking. I'm sure Norm watched this, wouldn't it be weird if he based his comedy persona on a random caller on this show? It could be Alan Thicke, it does sound like him a bit and he was a writer and producer on Fernwood. 15:15 for anyone interested.
And the irony is - the approach satirised here is pretty much why times have changed. For DSM - 3 in the late 1970s, extensive "field trials" were conducted where thousands of American citizens were asked whether they though they had a "mental health problem" and if so what that problem was - thereby medicalising huge swathes of everyday life.
