As an owner for 10 years I can happily say that an annual service costs nowhere near $5k. In the UK I pay an average of $1500 for a standard service. Cambelt change is circa $1200 every 3 years which is what Ferrari recommend. $5k is just way off and $20k for a Testarossa crazy. More like $5k in the UK.
I worked in a couple of Ferrari shops in the SF Bay Area in the early '90s. I don't know about the regular maintenance costs like Colleen was referring to but our shop manager mentioned once to me that a new clutch in the 512TR was about $20K. If the owner is somewhat mechanically inclined, much of the routine stuff can be done in your own shop. I've done some of the "simple maintenance" on a 308 but when you start pulling motors and the more involved work, call an expert! I've wondered how much difference there is in the driving between the 308 and the 328; I never had a 328 in our shop so I never had the opportunity to drive one. Being the last in that series, a 328GTB or GTS would be very attractive. It has all the upgrades and as she said, it's still relatively simple. What always drew me to the 308GTB/GTS is how you can get in one and it is like putting on your favorite pair of jeans and just go. Its comfortable and handles very well without a lot of drama... those were a lot of years ago, but they're still very good memories!
I am old enough to remember "250 GTE'"s when they were new. In fact, my father bought one used which we kept for a few years until he had enough of the maintenance/spare parts problems. I cannot recall the term GTE ever being used to describe those cars back then. They were always referred to as a 250 GT 2+2. The designation "GTE" seemed to have been added to those cars years later.
Hi, Colleen! Very lovely car and thanks for the presentation with all the little insider observations. I had a 328 GTS in rosso corsa at the beginning of the 90s - I loved it and still think it's one of the prettiest cars I've ever seen. I've got one more observation about the car in this video: it doesn't have ABS. How do I know? The wheel rims are 'inners', not 'outers' (concave not convex). Mine had inners and the Ferrari dealer told me how to recognise that. Apparently when they fitted ABS to later models, they had to make more room available for the new brakes, so the rims became outers.
I can't believe this. Drive in Media Exciting me in their every update. I am really excited about the contents of Drive in Media sharing more reviews about the latest and old supercars on American roads.
GTS is a Gran Turismo Scoperta. The 250 GT/E was a common name corresponding to the 508E chassis type. It was the first 508-type chassis with engine moved 200mm forward for bigger cabin space. Official name was 250 GT 2+2.
Love your passion and enthusiasm for these fantastic cars Colleen!! Thoroughly love watching this channel and learning what to expect owning each model. Something I can only dream about!
A beautiful car and colour have not seen that colour before and I live in Ireland and Europe you are so knowledgeable and great presentation cars like them are so enjoyable in the good weather great video s well done
Not gonna lie, the final iteration of the 308QV is my favorite version of that body style, but the 328 in that color is quite purty..and gated shift and manual steering are da bomb. "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" -L. Da Vinci
Great presentation. I used to own a 1989 328 GTS in Germany. The one thing you forgot to mention, which is a great tell tale sign of a European Model are the rearview mirrors.
Again, great video and you are correct. The 328 is a strong number of ferrari and reliable. I drove mij 328GTS from 1987 for 100.000km's. Only issue: the electric bord in front of passenger. Those plates are a fire hazzard as the screws/bolds can shorten the power. Love that car and mis it a lot but I am happy with the F430 spider (80.000km's already). Keep the video's comming
I absolutely love the looks of the 308 and 328. I have a Lotus Elise and pretend it has the same feel as the 308 without the maintenance issues or potentially expensive issues. Very driver engaging. I love this channel!! I always learn something new.
Great overview and I really like the unusual details in this video too. I never knew the grates in the side air inlets indicated its from Germany (nor why!) and I never knew about the button on the front hood strut. As a 328 owner this is really helpful to know. Thanks!
The colour 😍…love your channel…great info…Ferraris always look better when not in red…still if someone wants to hand me a 512BB in red I won’t say no 😎
I 100% agree with you! That colour is gorgeous! (Was it a factory colour) and Ferrari's never look good in red... I find that blue whether a flat French blue or a dark metallic is a much better option... But this brown/red is very unusual looks absolutely delicious!
So I am selling E bikes and there is a trend of chains being replaced by belts...now they say the belt is 3 times more durable than a chain....of course nowadays they are carbon fiber reenforced but I just wonder if there are aftermarket belts for 328s that have a similar lifespan
I would’ve gone w/exterior side mirror’s & exhaust cover / diaper delete as the dead giveaways for a Euro 308/328. Prugna is my absolute favorite color on these, my all time favorite car. (Next to 4293GT, naturally.) LFSC had a Prugna 84 or 85 US 308 when I was a kid in the early 90’s, which left a huge impression. Then my wife and I saw an identical (might’ve been the same exact car for all I know) in the parking lot of an FCA National in Elkhart Lake ~12 years back. So sick.
Looks great in that color, which I had never seen on a 328 before. Besides red I mostly see black (which also looks great) and now I wonder if they ever came in grey? I've seen grey 308s and they look fantastic (one was even featured in a later episode of Magnum PI) and imagine a 328 would as well since they are so similar.
@@delmarrathbone7092 Which is a pity: www.advanceddrivers.com/2017/06/21/rear-fog-lights-for-driving-in-the-usa-what-are-they/ As fas as I understand it, in the U. S. it is allowed to have *one* fog light at the rear, correct?
Prugna sounds so much better than Prune. But it's such a great color. A couple in the mid-west has a two-mirror Testarossa in Prugna over saddle tan and it is gorgeous.
Would like to locate something other than a red one with decent records and less than 30K miles. Most either seem to be devoid of routine service records or so pristine they are asking TR prices. A fair price would be in teh 45-65k range according to some auction results.
Great Video ! as far as registration of the car to operate in California ??? .. we use to call these gray Market cars and had a lower value ? If you ever saw rain man the Movie , that's what Tom C. was doing in that movie to make money .Yes fantastic Looking car .. the left front fender aft of the front wheel where the maker light is Looked like it had been repainted?? what do you Value these gray market cars thanks P S I think in Italy they call this Blood red .. the real Ferrari red you can see that its been repainted in spots Not like the factory paint
I've never seen a Ferrari in this color. It's sort of a Dr. Pepper red. Porsche has a very similar color. I've seen some 944s and 911s that had that color paint. I think a very rare find for a Ferrari would be a 208 Turbo. I don't think they were ever exported outside of Europe.
Prugna? That’s actually a pretty name for a girlThat. car looks amazing from every single angle. It transforms metal and looks like a beautiful woman. I’m jealous you get to drive these gorgeous rides for a living.
Yes, darling you missed on the mirrors the Euro's have the Lamborghini styled mirrors. The US models are the square type and less sporty/attractive in my opinion. Also, the lower spoilers aren't painted on the car either they're black. Other than that this was a great an entertaining video. You look as good as the Ferrari my dear, and that say's a lot!
I believe the same legislation that led to the gauze in the intake vent also gave rise to the side strakes on the Testarossa and 348. Fortunately it was no longer a thing by the F355. Nice color! Prune doesn't sound like it would be appetising, but it actually works well. According to ferrari.com GTE stands for Gran Turismo Europa. The GTS thing gets more complicated after the 308 series as the 348 and F355 had Coupe GTB models, GTS targa models and Spider models, the ones with the actual folding roof. The repaint is especially obvious when you did the close-up on the German side-marker, but a good detailer could likely sort that fairly easily. Please keep hands on wheel and look out the front while talking! We love you and don't want you to have any unfortunate outcomes.
My compliments on another fine video. That said the story about someone getting their arm stuck and getting run over is TOTALLY FALSE and unfounded here say at best. TUV road homologation regulations in Germany and Switzerland have had such laws decades before the 328 or 308 was made. The requirement for openings of a certain size to be meshed off were more a function of road debris and small animal considerations than any human incident requiring the regulation to be enacted. You make very nice videos but you need to be careful about spreading tall tales because it discredits otherwise good facts that would make a video like this a good reference piece.
This is Ferrari at its best. Today's Ferrari? Losing it. Plus Ferrari should bring back pininfarina. To me a Ferrari really isn't a Ferrari with out pininfarina styling.
I would definitely buy a 328. Paint it metallic royal blue, install electric steering and replace the engine/trans with a 300 Mile plus battery setup. Ferraris will ALWAYS be AWESOME. But if Ferrari refuses to upgrade their older cars to modern day battery cars they will lose out on a HUGE market.
