You're actually *not* supposed to lift the accelerator when shifting. This is specifically said in the official Ferrari manual. Lifting it every time you shift causes a lot of wear. You might want to tell your friend about this. Look it up in the manual I'm not making this up, chapter/page 3.16. He's doing the car a huge disservice if he lifts every time.
It depends, if you are already on the throttle you should not lift. But if you have already lifted it will shift without extra wear. The issue is the computer trying to compensate for you changing conditions at the time of shift
I always see 360 Spider as a mini F50, especially around the roll hoops area.Is there a Ferrari Mondial T with Valeo transmission in HK? I would love to see the review on that.
I bought an 08 F430 spider. I don’t know if they improve these F1s over the years? In some videos I see the drivers violently jolt forward and backwards when they shift. My car doesn’t do that to me. Mines very smooth. I’d hate that feeling if mine was jolting me around like that.
The 430's F1 system is definitely much improved compared to the 360 so they did get better every generation. For the jolting, it shouldn't jolt too badly but the gearbox should be more aggressive if you go to Race mode on your mannetino, maybe that's why
Pretty sure with a 2001 (ie not a really early 1999) the tcu (gearbox ecu) is programmed and performs better when you keep your foot in the throttle for each shift. This is definitely the case for 2002 onwards when big tcu improvements were made. It is a bit of a RU-vid myth to lift off (this can help on the very early cars) but generally the best shifts in 360 are WOT foot left in. There is no programming that expects you to lift off..
Would always go with a manual 360 as not a fan of early generation F1 transmission. Apparently it's much improved on the 430 and modern dual clutch transmissions are superb but I will always prefer the extra involvement of a manual
Great review on the F1 box. I've never understood the negativity surrounding it. That idiot Clarkson is the one responsible. However, on another note, you should have clicked the sports button and floored it. Then, you just keep your foot planted when changing gears and the changes are so much quicker
