Ferrari's naturally aspirated mid engined V8 may be on the way out. We took a 458 Spider out and about to have a look not only at where it may be going, but also at where it came from. It's all because of one man, Dino.

As a Director in the Ferrari Club of America I get to see a lot of interesting things Ferrari. I greatly appreciate the wonderment of this video not just for the knowledge handed forward, not just for the narrators view point, but rather what I experience when I'm behind the wheel of my Red 1992 348 TS! It just happened this afternoon! Also of note is that I just celebrated my 65 Birthday and a SURPRIZE PRESENT from Ken was letting me DRIVE his 2014 458 Italia Spyder of the same color seen here! The 488 GTB and the new F8 are absolute overkill. The 458 is the perfect sweet spot - such a well-balanced, timeless car. (Watch Chris Harris' review on the 488 Pista - in my honest opinion, a car like that simply isn't rewarding to drive in the same way a 9k rpm, NA V8 would be)

Awesome video!! And I agree totally with Dino's importance in Ferrari's history.. Butt.. Since the 458 is only available with a DCT gearbox.. The only real old-school supercar left is actually an Audi R8.. A mid engined, naturally aspirated engine with the option of a manual gearbox..

The germans don't do 'real' supercars. A 4WD Audi doesn't credit any comparisons to the great prancing horse. The guy above me is bang on - a Balboni would be most petrol-heads dream ride. RWD, N/A V10 & a gated 6 speed. Germans ruin everything with their clinical approach, Lamborghini isn't what it was 10 years ago since the sausage eaters got hold of it...

tjay84 The Noble M600 comes straight to mind. Essentially a Ferrari F40 in 2014. It's not the biggest name in the business but the cars had universal critical acclaim since it came around. RWD, 600BHP, NO ELECTRIC ASSISTS AND A PROPER MANUAL... People should be supporting these guys who still make proper drivers cars instead of jumping on the german bandwagon.

I think Ferrari should unveil their own version of the Alfa 4C with a turbo V6 and bring back the Dino name for it. I can imagine that being such a hit with collectors and purists alike.

I think the LaFerrari was specifically developed so they have a platform to test their F1 engine on the track. It's a clever way to sidestep testing rules in F1.

Turbo is a love and hate relationship. A hate that turbo will take over cars that SHOULD stay NA. But also a love because they give variety and options for other folks. Just a shame that NA noise and emotional NA driving is disappearing

If you had bothered to look at the rear of the F12 properly, you would see that the lines curving around the lights and flowing down to the diffuser are the rear legs of a prancing horse. The whole car is made to look like one. If you look closely, you will notice that all Ferraris are meant to look like a horse, especially the new were ones. The headlights are the eyes, the front grills are the mouth and so on.
