This was the first of a two-day weekend. To go fast takes going faster bit-by-bit, corner-by-corner. By the second day we broke the track record. I've been driving for so long that the intimidation factor is low but the learning is still very high.

Agree but I think the engines used in the Cart era from 96-2001 sure give the V10 a run for the sound. Check out Kenny Brack LOLA test video for Target Chip Ganassi "Kenny Brack testando o chassi Lola"

@budracerf1

The '70s and early '80s had no drivers' aids so it was all about driver skill--real cars for real men. The '80s turbo era was a handful and only the best could get power to the ground consistently. When the late '90s and '00s came, it required the driver to work well with the engineers and telemetry specialists because of all the electronics. The fastest F1 cars ever are the 2003 and 2004 and 2005. After that the regulators slowed them down (again). So I like my 2003!

This is not a rental program. We each own the F1 cars that we drive. You can go to Ferrari.com and click F1 Clienti (under the Corse Clienti area) to find out more. It's an 8-10 event series each year that goes all around the world. We've usually got 15-20 F1 cars out at each event.

@budracerf1
@budracerf1 11 лет назад
The price of the car is all dependent on which year, who drove it, etc. They start around $1 MM and go up to $3-4 MM. Way more than the Lotus but these are real F1 cars with real history. The Lotus program is based on F1 technology but just a nice race car. We pay a fee for each event plus transportation. Any annual service/repair is on top of that, as would be true with any race car. It's not cheap but driving the fastest machines in the world is great at any price!

Thanks for all the comments, positive and negative. Regarding my hand position, the cockpit is so tight (for me) that I can't rotate the wheel enough with both hands on the grips. I have to take one off (usually the left, given all the right hand turns, and help turn it a bit further. This F2003-GA is faster than today's F1 cars because of its 930 HP (compared to 750-800 today), despite less sophisticated aero. It was fast enough for us to break the outright track record at Sonoma & Laguna Seca.

Fantastic video and some great driving by Bud. It's cool to see how he gains confidence lap by lap and eventually puts in a real solid lap time. The 2003 and 2004 cars are the fastest F1 cars ever built. At the current market they will probably sell for around $2-3 Million. The steering is pretty light because of little weight on the nose plus power assist and even with more speed and loading the feedback is consistent and the wheel is always easy to manipulate.

I understand and your'e right on the Lotuses. Thank you for being open with the pricing, its so hard to get numbers out of other ppl when it gets up in that league in general. Do they tune them to original settings or upgrade components/tires etc? Its probably not so important with your car, but that Berger car fx, does it only contain 1989 parts even when stuff needs replacing?..do they then mill a new piece for the owner and such? Anyone can purchase an F1 car from Ferrari with enough money. There are agreements to sign regarding usage of the car, particularly re marketing events, as Ferrari jealously protects their brand as well as their sponsors. Otherwise the car is yours to put wherever you'd like. To be able to drive it in events, there are several pre-qualification requirements and Ferrari strongly recommends test sessions at their Fiorano test track before joining in with other cars.
