One of the great drivers of alltime but completely annihilated by Keke Rosberg in 83 & 84 seasons as Williams teammates. Such is life but then again I'm finnish.
This is the best car video on all of the internet. The sound, the rawness of the suspension and grip, watching Jacques getting jarred around, and the way he pulls through the Turbo MEAT in those gears. Best ever, no doubt.
These old F1 drivers were the absolute best! Unsynchronized transmission, brutal snap power when the turbos spool up... wow! What a fantastic machine and an equally fantastic driver.
Must have been over 15years since I’ve watched this video the first time. Every once in a while I come back, words can’t describe my feelings when I watch this. PERFECTION!
mocassins et supercar ! la classe absolue ! le style ! le son... tout est au delà de l'imaginable... cette video me donnera encore des frissons pendant des decennies...
F40 Lm , is the ultímate driver's car in my opinion.... And what a pleasure to see an former f1 pilot to take a run, driving like you should , the sound, the raw of the car , no assistance , no stability control , you are on just the feeling of the car and what is doing , and thats what driving is all About , i watch this video once a week at least
This video Literally brings joy to me. We need to keep manuals! Sure, SAT's might give us faster times around the track, but it's not about that! I'ts about the joy and thrill of the drive! Also when you take manual out of the equation, it also removes some of the skill..
i saw this video 10 years ago....and now again....and it is still mindblowing! what a sound! ooooo my god, just want to drive the car in a sim race...i remember there was a mod in rfactor with incredible sound
The F40's did have straight-cut gears. They transmissions also featured dog engagement rings and they were unsynchronized, meaning that the drivers had to manually synchronize the gear changes by "double-clutching". Removing the synchronizers, using straight-cut gears, and utilizing dog engagement rings serves to strengthen the transmission allowing it to operate longer in the brutal conditions of endurance races; the purpose for which the car was built.
TO DIE FOR!!!! That sound gave me goosebumps on the back of my neck and made my stomach go all squiggly, what I'd give to have a drive or ride in one of those, GREAT VID!
I watched this on TV years before, when i lived in France, i was just a little kid, but i remember this sound, it was unforgettable. Obviously my father was recording it on the VCR ;-) . Great memories! Thanks for upload this!
Still sends chills down my spine and gives me goosebumps whenever I watch it. It must have been an absolutely spectacular experience for Lafitte to pilot this amazing machine. I can only hope one day to drive one of the 'lesser' Ferrari models myself, as I will never get the chance to be behind the wheel of the Legandary F40 LM.
Having watched this a few years ago, I have just spent about 3 hours trying to find it again! ...There is a lot of 'Ferrari' footage on RU-vid. But this is my fave. THE SOUND.
I love the sound of that engine and how the two turbos runs air to the intake. So beautiful.. :P If I ever had enough money to buy a Ferrari, it will be the F40 : )
Le bon vieux plaisir des boites a crabots avec obligation de faire du double débrayage a chaque rapport : Le rêve. Dire que des gens maintenant ne savent même pas ce que c'est...
This car is seriously quick !! It sounds like the ratio's are too close but the graphic shows otherwise. You can hear the tyres at the limit of their straight line adhesion as he accelerates on the straight's. Very quick. He's not even pushing that hard. Love it :)
Track used is named "Mas du clos", a very nice track of a famous french Ferrari owner (has owned till around 60 old Ferraris...). Track is really nice (nice/fast/slow curves).
every time he puts his foot on the accelerator you can hear the giant LEM turbo's spool up. its amazing. i would also definetly have a f40 instead of a enzo. Idk about a FXX. those are amazing.
Hello everyone. I moments ago just uploaded an edited montage of my personal favorite automotive sounds ever recorded -- this footage included in there. So, feel free to give it a view/listen at your convenience if you all are at all curious. Thanks.
@carlosb1, ok thanks a bunch for this one wow ,i am a huge fan of the F4O and this is a awesome in car video of it .Thanks for posting ,man i am deaf from ccranking it up lol.
Absolutely awesome and awe-inspiring. At full chat, it brings tears to the eyes....not a supercar in the world (past or present) that can match that kind of raw, metallic, thrashy yet glorious noise. So many of today's turbo-charged performance cars just sound lame in comparison- the turbo noises drowning-out and smoothing the engine and exhaust notes, e.g. latest twin scroll turbo BMW M5.
One little note about this drive, because in this video that doesn´t show, when i saw this on TV, before the drive, i remember they take this Ferrari from a museum, directly to the track, so the tuning of the engine is not the best, in this drive, this F40 LM was not correctly tuned for a race. However is still amazing to see!
THE TRACK is called Mas du Clos (I dug it up from an earlier comment but he actually says it at the beginning if you listen carefully [or actually know French :P]).
the first example of "road F1"!!! totally insane! and above all no ASR, no TSC, no other fuckin electronic control only feet, hands and heart! you can hear the LM breathing, living you can feel every single part of HER!! Thanks guys for this video! like Swataia said, if I had money to buy a Ferrari, it will be the F40!! 5 stars video!
I just said it a short while ago,it`s sound from inside the engine bay.the whistle that picks up as the car speeds is the straight cut gearbox indeed and the vibrating issue is due to the fact that the car is very powerfull so it looses traction when it bounces on the track each time it gets the oportunity due to improper rebound settings to the suspension system.
Amen. It's still the most DRIVER focused supercar. No BS...no electronic gadgets...no computer nannies...no paddle shift...NO RADIO...no power steering...no traction control...just 478HP pumped into the rear wheels...and a driver with ALOT of balls to drive it really fast!!!! Sexy and light carbon fiber body...on a race tuned chassis and engine. Pure...raw...unadulterated. God Bless the Ferrari F40!! If only I could afford one. =^)
This is in my top 5 ferrari's. The last one to be signed off on by the ole man and no excuses to beat the opponents on the track with. And did I mention that turbo.
Before I watch forumula One, or other ALMS races.. I will play this video on my computer.... I have speakers throughout the house, and play it continuously for some time... The singing beauty of the Twin Turbo V8 echo beautifully as I prepare myself for a relaxing time of Racing..... This is when the Girlfriend goes shopping...
