I am the proud owner of the satin black project car in this video and it’s been a lot of fun talking about all the mods which I think will be very popular with other FF and GTC4 owners. The battery issues alone cause so many faults that frustrate owners because they don’t know what causes the problems. That relocation kit is a smart investment. Micah is fast becoming the truthsayer for v12 Ferraris. There is a lot to demystify and even Ferrari dealers are on their back feet on many of these topics. The dealer doesn’t always know best.

Big fan of Micah! He knows his stuff. I was the owner of the white FF. I sold it earlier this year. It was a great car to me and Micah took the time to explain the maintenance options and other information about the car. If I still had it I would definitely take it to him.

So Ferrari orange peel paint jobs and bird shit welds are just icing on the cake!
@HollywoodMechanic

@@jim99west46 I don't think the paint is that bad on most. The paint shops repairing them often do bad work. The welds are sometimes messy, I'm with you on that. But you don't hear about them cracking that often. Headers, on some years yes. But not really body frame stuff

Ethanol in our fuels is a problem for sure. Do you recommend regular use cleaning detergent like techron, gumout, and redline sl1?

I had a 2008 612 and was speaking with one of the top Ferrari mechanics in the country (similar to Micah, but down in San Diego) and when I asked Steve how do I get a Ferrari without problems, he said the key is to buy a three year old car and sell it before the warranty runs out. After having to replace my tie rod ends at 20k miles you learn that in fact Ferrari's are just not well built.

It's nice to be mentioned in the same class as Steve M, if that's who you're talking about. Great guy, really bringing engineering into his custom mods and repairs. Hard to get ahold of though, but the best are it seems. It's funny that he commented that. If you read the comment from @stuffhappens5681 "Not exactly selling me..." my reply was similar to what Steve told you: Buy a previous generation 4 or 5 year model and sell it after a year. You really get the cross point between most depreciation already occurred and least maintenance expected.

@@HollywoodMechanic Yup, that's the Steve I was referring to. I loved when he showed me the 458 transmission and said, hey that switch costs 30k from Ferrari or 3k from me. I was actively looking at a FF that already had the PTU repair done and then I learned that was a worse idea than buying a Mondial
@theeverydayguy2938
@theeverydayguy2938 Месяц назад
I’ve heard the PTU issue is for 2012 and 2013 but not on 2014-2016. Is that correct?
@HollywoodMechanic
@HollywoodMechanic Месяц назад
@@theeverydayguy2938 haha nope buddy. Gtc4lusso I just had to rebuild with 8000 miles on the odometer. The forums never cease to amaze me. Ferrari doesn't change anything. Ever. If it was a big problem before, it still is. Until they replace whatever it is with a completely new model. So many times I hear, "oh they updated the 7dct and only the Californias have problems. Meanwhile I'm doing weep seals on 488s and 812s 🤣

Will all the FF eventually have the ptu issue,?
@HollywoodMechanic
@HollywoodMechanic 16 дней назад
@@robertcomella8486 yes. The design is flawed. I have other videos clearly showing an inadequate snap ring not designed for lateral load as well as the geometry of the shift fork bushings lacking in several ways. They all fail

I saw a cheap FF the other day, now I know why its ”cheap”. I dont have a Micah in my part of the world.

There goes my plan to get an FF (dont want GT4 Lusso). I am pretty good with DIY projects and I have a lift but after watching this video and why costs are so high (parts) I will be passing on FF and probably getting C8 AND M5 instead. Bye bye screaming v12...welcome rumbling v8's?
@HollywoodMechanic
@HollywoodMechanic 2 месяца назад
I hope you're not talking about an M5 with the S63 engine. I just sold my N63 (almost same engine for the v8 TT non M cars) and it was a complete nightmare to own. I spent $5000 in parts alone, not including the notorious valve stem seals and guides or the $3200 fuel injectors. That motor had 24 different fluid hose connections to pull that motor and you have to do it after 10 years because the plastic intake leaks boost. Such a nightmare. If you have good mechanical hands, you can do all the Ferrari stuff yourself. The BMW requires much more skill and time to service as well as needing ISTA to try to diagnose their "torque request" system that won't tell you what's wrong, only the engine is low on power. Such a nightmare.
@sebastianek23
@sebastianek23 2 месяца назад
Thats interesting. Would you consider v8 mid engine Ferraris more reliable than v12 counterparts? 360 and 430 and 458?

Not exactly selling me on Ferrari ownership right now.
@HollywoodMechanic
@HollywoodMechanic 2 месяца назад
@@stuffhappens5681 gotta do it right. Wait until the next model comes out for a full year, then buy a 5 year old, 20k mile or less model ferrari. You'll be at the cross point of depreciation and maintenance for about a year and half. Then get rid of it

@@HollywoodMechanic - Agree. Or, buy an NSX, C8, Emira, or almost any Porsche and don’t worry about watching the clock or wallet.
