I adored schumi as much as everyone else but gaining 3 seconds a lap with an equal car in such a short track is astronomical. Ben collins is not a 7 times F1 wdc but he still a pro racing driver, i'd say schumi gain 1 sec at most from his skill

For what it’s worth too, they removed this from the list as it’s not a road legal car, so doesn’t count, the Gumpert apollo it dethroned would get a faster time with slicks etc! Schumacher is one heck of a driver no doubt, but I don’t think there’d be much in it between him and the stig on this track as the stig will know every bump and crack on the whole track, I wonder if they let the stig have a go behind the scenes or not? No disrespect to F1 drivers, but the chances of them being the actual best in the world is slim, in the sense that the chances of even being in a position to race in F1 is limited to a very small percentage of rich well connected people who also clearly have an amazing driving skill, however really if everyone was given an equal shot at racing F1 and given the same training and practice etc, what are the chances of the current F1 drivers all still being there! That said, people like Schumacher I believe would genuinely still be one of the top, even if everyone was tested to see, he and a few others are the rare cases where an actual best driver on the planet contender, also had the means and connections to get into that sport!

Aside from there being "no real" Stig, there's a reason for that: You can't cut that corner with a car like that. More prominent example today would be the "Karrussel" on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Somewhat available to the public cars go on the inner line. Anything starting it GT3 LM, or maybe even some "lesser" race classes will skip it. The suspension wouldn't survive it.

Damn, that must've been an awesome day for the Stig. Not only you get a visit from Schumi himself but you get to see him tear down the track live and with presumably a small amount of audience so you can also really hear that car roars too.

thig is alot of the car at te top of the bord were prototypes that never ended up going into production. thats hardly fair ither, a10 or gumpit has never really seen the light of day as far as I know. or some of the other ones, and if thay have there never as hight powered and race speced like the oness that were sent on the show. in all the top 6 or 7 cars on there the enzo and zonda is the only ones that ahve truly been in production to buy with the same spec thay were tested with on top gear.

And, well, it's not the first time they took a car down (although they usually do it immediately after putting it up). They have rules, it must clear a speed bump, be available to buy, fully road legal and have non-slick tyres. But yeah, the reason Schumacher was the Stig in this episode was because it was his FXX.

FXX is a racing car and it's all tuned and set for slicks on dry tarmak. Mounting any legal street tire would just result in it spinning out of the track at the first bend...and being the car not street legal there is no reason it should mount street legal tyres. It's like saying "oh look, the McLaren F1 just turned at Monza in 1.23s!"...."yeah but with street legal tyres it wouldn't do that" (duuuuh...). :-) Ferrari just builds the world's fastest cars in general, it's not such a hard thing to swallow, mate.

The point is for the cars they put on the top gear lap time board the standards have always been that each car must be street legal from head to toe.
