We lost our little Arya last week after a series of strokes. We also had to syringe feed her, help teach her to walk and get water, and bathe her. We tried so hard to keep her with us. She passed peacefully in her sleep, snuggling in bed. Thank you for making this video. It was immensely comforting. I am sorry for your loss.

Thank You so much ! My wife and I have had Ferrets --- like for ever. a year ago January our Andy wasn't doing well, we took him to his Vet in Menden NV, he said Andy had cancer , he removed Andy's cancer, what a relief. three months later the cancer came back, really bad, Andy was a few weeks short of being seven, we rescued him when he was four months old from a very Bad life. in 2013. Andy had his own room. Then we herd about another Ferret that had another bad life also, We drove four hours on way to pick him up, his name was Otter, he was two months younger than Andy. They were the best bud's, they did every thing together.. When we brought Andy's lifeless body home, we showed him to Otter. Otter laid down with Andy. From then on Otter just moped around the house, . In June we took otter to his vet ---- he said Otter didn't have long to live, he had came down with a lot of failures, Andy and Otter are together now. No more Ferrets for now, it hurts to much. My wife and I are 77 years young, We miss Andy and Otter very much, a day dosen't go by we don't think of them, Ferrets can really steal your Heart. The Bible say when we die we are dead, and we are waiting for resurrection. (Acts 24:15 New World Translation; A real hope of being reunited with our dead loved ones John 5:28,29 I am hoping we will also see our Ferrets in the now world. (all of them Andy, Otter, Tinkerbell, Draco, Pixie, Bob, and Sandy). I want to thank you for you time to make you video, it was very well done. You are to be commended !

We lost both of our boys to this terrible disease. It was so hard to watch them decline, but we made the decision to help them and not let them suffer, hardest thing I have ever had to do. I still remember my little Loki's last breath........ We lost them about three months apart in 2018 and it still hurts today. DIP Newt, hopefully you are dooking away with Loki and Thor at the rainbow bridge!

This video touched me in more ways than I can explain. Today is my ferret Sam’s second birthday. He lost his fight with lymphoma in May 2020, shortly after he turned one. The impact he made on my heart will last forever, and this video perfectly incapsulated the beautiful and wondrous spirit that ferrets embody. I hope Sam and Newt are up in heaven together, that there is endless adventures for them there, and when it’s our time to cross the bridge too, that they will be waiting for us on the other side. DIP Newt ❤️

Beautiful ferret, beautiful video tribute. I love how you highlighted newt's life and told the stories about his name and where he used to dig. I had a cat I called my son, he was 6 years old when he got kidney disease and medications and diet weren't slowing it enough. I lost him while he was at the vet overnight and I could have ripped the whole world open to bring him back to me. Everytime life is hard all I wish is that my baby boy was still with me to make his little chirps and jump on the kitchen bench. Animals lives are not just important they are everything. our souls reach out to theirs and theirs to ours and we become entangled in a bond that feels like being ripped apart if or when it is ever broken.

As a current father of 4 ferrets who has lost two ferrets and a dog all within 30 days, I 100% absolutely feel your grief. I’m so sorry for your loss of Newt. He touched both your lives in ways you will never forget, and when the time comes for you to transcend the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God, you will see him once again, running free and happy as can be to see you. My four year old baby Comet went in a similar way, but it was IBD. I watched helplessly as he bled to death from the inside. He passed away in my arms. I held him for his last breaths and he wasn’t alone. I’m so glad you two could be there for Newt in his last moments as well. That’s so important. Please take care of yourself and know that Newt had the best life possible. You were absolutely put on this earth to care for these precious and amazing creatures. Sending love!

Dear Haley and Channing, I am so sorry for your loss of precious little Newt. I have been where you are with caring for a terminally ill pet and having to say good-bye. It is a gut-wrenching experience, all the more because, as you said, nursing a sick animal creates an even stronger bond with them. I empathize with the grief you are feeling and my heart and prayers go out to you - and to Moose and Albert. They must also be feeling the loss of their companion and brother. 😢 I hope that you can all bring comfort to each other in sharing the love and good memories you all have of Newt. I know it may not feel comforting just now, but please remember that however short Newt's life may have been, you made it the best life it could have been, and you were there for him to help him pass from this world knowing he was greatly loved. He has crossed the rainbow bridge now and is free of pain and back to his old tricks. I know you will all be reunited someday. I would only put it to you that these little animals's lives are not small just because their stature is. They are as large as the love and joy they inspire, and Newt brought a lot of joy not only the you, but to all the viewers of your videos. He will live on in those videos and in all of our memories. And as hard as it has been and is, as your courageous and beautiful video attests to, and as heartbroken as you feel now, remember that, as C.S.Lewis said: "The pain now is part of the happiness then". It's still worth going through the grief to be graced by having these precious little souls in our lives. God bless you and little Newt.

Omgosh I am in tears...mine was named Angel Fuzz she was my first ferret. She was found under the sofa after sneaking in to my home and eventually my heart. It seems someone threw her away and she was in very bad shape including being deaf. After taking her to the vet I realized I wouldn't have her long, the vet said maybe a week at the most. Two wonderful years later she started to decline very rapidly. I was heartbroken and I think she knew I was because she wouldn't leave my side and would cry every time I did. That night when her seizures started I had nothing to do but to hold her and pray it would be over soon as the vet warned me this would be her end. I have been searching for years to find a way to express the way I felt about her and still do, so thank you so very much for doing this video. I really believe that she is on the other side of the rainbow bridge and now has Newt to play with. Ferrets don't just walk into our lives, they weave themselves into our hearts. She ended up putting me on a journey that would lead me back to my faith in God after many years. So once again thank you for this wonderful memorial to Newt and to all of the other ferret owners that feel the same way about our little fuzz butts. God bless you and yours!

I am very fortunate to have three beautiful carpet sharks and my black eyed white was added to the family last year during the summer. This video was a reminder to cherish every moment with my babies. They have destroyed the carpet in their room (which I must replace when I move out), pooped where they shouldn't have, stolen my shoes, hid them in different places, but I wouldn't change a thing. They drive me crazy, but I can't imagine my life without them. My life is so much better with them, than without them. DIP little Newt ❤😢

I haven't had a good sob is a while. I want to thank you for that as it allowed me to mourn for my first cat who passed around a little over four years ago. I understand that was a long time ago, but I believe it is never too late to mourn. She had been sick for the last two years of her life with kidney failure. We were luckily able to lengthen her life by one year by giving her daily IV infusions. Sadly, she only go to live two months past her eighth birthday. Not many 13-year-olds can confidently say they know how to use IV fluids and needles. It was the night of December 26th. This was the day before my 14th birthday. It was also eight years and a day since we had rescued and adopted her. We had to rush her to the emergency 24-hour vet because she was suffering. She didn't want to be near us, which is common for cats when they know they are about to die. I remember being in that room where they put her down wanting to scream and cry while the doctor did the injections. I was scared because I felt like she was going too fast and was hurting her. Rather than crying or screaming, I stayed completely silent. I shut down. They gave my sister and I ink-footprints to keep. I honestly don't remember much at all from then up until the next morning. It had all become a blur. I know that no one asked to hear this heartbreaking story, but I've never narrated it from my point-of-view to someone before. I never truly mourned her, as I said before. Even though losing her was one of the worst things in my life, it also gave me such an appreciation for the world around me and for life, no matter how short or small. I hope that everything here can have that opportunity to love an animal so fiercely in their lifetime. For someone who has not owned a pet or has just lost a pet, please do not be discouraged by the fear of that loss. It is worth it in the end to have been honored with caring for such an amazing creature. After I lost her, it might have been a bit of time, but only a year later I found myself striving to adopt or buy (not recommended) another pet because I cherished that experience so much. HOWEVER, I had rushed into it around my 15th birthday. I impulse-bought a veiled chameleon from PetSmart after I had down an amount of research. It was not nearly enough, nor had I properly prepared in advance for taking care of it. This is one of my greatest regrets because due to my ignorance about truly what it takes to care for such a complex reptile, the chameleon barely lived for 3 months since I'd bought it. It had done well for around the first month, maybe two months, but the final month really just fell apart with fragile bones due to low calcium and the crickets biting him. My sister is wonderful with animals and desperately tried to help me save him before taking him from me completely as she saw me as unfit (as I was). He passed away not long after. He would still be alive now had I done the proper research and set up a proper habit for him well in advance. Please, no one chastise me on this. It's been 3-4 years since that, and I am only now able to speak about it without crying. Rather than regretting and punishing myself for it, I have chosen to learn from the experience. (more below)

Towards the end of my junior years of high school, when I was 16 still, I took in a stray cat. His name is Eddie. When we took him in, he was barely 4 weeks old, however he looked like he could be 6-8 weeks (his teeth told us and the vet the truth though). He had been accidentally abandoned by his mother inside a truck engine in early April during a very rainy and stormy time. After he escaped the engine, he sat under a porch in the cold and rain waiting for his mother to find him, but she never did as she probably gave up thinking he had died so she could move on and take care of her other kittens. My friend pulled him out from under the porch and let me know about it, knowing that I was a cat lover and had plenty of experience with it. I talked to my Aunt first who is a ex-veterinarian who focused a lot on cats. She currently houses strays, neuters strays in her neighborhood, and also runs a little rehoming "business." I say business, but it is NON-PROFIT. I asked her to take him in just in case my parents said no, which she happily obliged to. People just know to come to her for rescued, healthy kittens/cats. But my parents surprisingly both said yes, while also warning me severely about what had happened to the chameleon. He is now a little over two years old. Health young boy and VERY handsome (his instagram is EddieTheKitty). However, he does have some problems. He has extreme separation anxiety as well as anxiety in general. Despite our efforts, it has gotten worse with time and we are planning on putting him on cat, anxiety medications as well as putting him through therapy. He now permanently lives with my sister because when I went off to college, I couldn't take him with me for that first year being in dorms. So she agreed to care for him. However at this time, COVID-19 kicked in with quarantine, so Eddie became very attached to my sister as she was the only person he sees for over a year being locked in a house together. They bonded very closely, close to on par with how him and I were before that. It was different though since his mental illnesses were getting worse, so he doesn't eat if she is not in clear line of sight of him. He is so afraid of being abandoned due to what happened when he was just a baby. Now a year and a half since he left me to stay with her, I have finally transferred being his guardian over to her permanently. He is happy with her. I can't bare to take him from that no matter how much it kills me and makes me cry on a daily basis. He is truly my baby boy that I raised for the first year of his life fully on my own. But you have to do what you feel is best for your children. Since I started college, I had begun looking at ferrets. I fell in love with their kitten-like behaviors and the striking similarities I see in how they are taken care of, behavior, and health. In the past few months I started really dwelling on the idea and started to realize it could be wonderful for me. I miss being able to take care and wholehearted love an animal that I know loves me just as much back. It is a special bond that I so dearly miss having. In the past few weeks, I have been doing so much research. Most of it being with you, The Modern Ferret, and also with Emzotic. There are a few others in addition to trusted web sources. I am spending close to a thousand dollar on just the setting up and preparations. I planning on taking one home in around two weeks from today and I could not be more excited. I am happy that I am finally able to prepare and set up properly with all of the proper information at my disposal. I also have an exotic pet veterinarian with a specialty in ferrets barely a mile from my apartment which makes me feel really good as well. I plan to give this ferret the best life it could possibly have and spend my every waking moment thinking about what I can do to make it's day better. I am first starting with one ferret and am considering on bringing in another one or two in about a month or so. Just so I get used to him running around and helping me spot-check any ferret-proof-needing places. So far, I believe I got them all. Even got special pet-chewing proof wire coverings. The moral to this long and drawn out story is to NEVER give up on have a pet no matter the loss or mistakes. Learn from your mistakes, and REALLY learn from them. I've lost pets to health issues, my own neglect, and also having to give one away to live a happier life with his mental conditions. It might seem scary that loss, but I am so grateful and honored to have been able to know and care for each of those wonderful animals even though some were short lived.

Sorry about newt :( I lost my Smokey last Monday. Turns out he had cancer for months, and he was only two and a half. I took him in when he was 2 months because a friend on my hockey team had bought him and was in trouble with residence life at the time because we were at university and they had a no pet policy. I had only planned on keeping him for a few days while my friend figured out what he was going to do but frankly he was an idiot and never really made an effort to deal with it. It was the best thing that ever happened to me, as it turns out, and for a brief 2 years and change I had such a wonderful friend. I didn't ever keep him in a cage and I think it really developed his brain, because he had free range of the house he was one of the smartest animals I think I've ever met. It's too bad these little guys are so disease prone, it is really incredibly unfair. Thanks so much for sharing this it warmed my heart. I hope Smokey and Newt are out there stealing some oven mitts up in ferret heaven together

After losing 3 of my 4, original ferrets, one of which to insulinoma and with 2 of them being adoptions, this, all of this is exactly how I felt. It's so insane how much these little guys attach themselves to your heart. They always fight with everything they have. The last of my original guys had an adrenal gland removed last year that was 10x the normal size, then this year was diagnosed with an enlarged spleen and a liver mass. They gave her a month to live and it's now been 6, she sleeps a lot these days but is still always willing to play. A lot of people don't even have that kind of fight in them. They are inspiring. Losing them is difficult, I've lost dogs that didn't leave as big of a footprint in my life as my ferrets have. It is because of my originals that I have learned and grown with my ferranting. Now every one I take in is switched to raw, and now because of my first guys acting as the ambassadors of their species to me, I work closely with a ferret rescue, having 8 total that have been adoptions. I help other owners switch to raw, provide as much information as I can to help other folks try and avoid the heartbreak and keep their little guys with them longer. Small lives yes, but in my opinion one of the most impactful on big lives. Very beautiful video, Newt is running wild with all the other legends, across the rainbow bridge. D.I.P.

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Newt. I have watched the video several times because I love the message that you bring through this tragic event and want to thank you, although I sob every time. I lost my beloved rescue ferret Mynx in 2016, but was lucky enough to have her for the last 18 months of her 10 year(!) life. I adopted StinkerBelle and Guinness in 2018 and couldn't imagine my life without them! I thank you for your videos, as they are so educational, inspiring and fun to watch. Thank you to both to you and Channing for all that you do! And your beloved Newt will be eagerly awaiting you at the Rainbow Bridge!

It seems I am years late commenting, but thank you for sharing this!!! There really is way to little done towards honoring the wonderful gift these amazing little creatures are! Thank you! You're a wonderful person for sharing your journey. I've had five ferrets. I started believing after the first one that if you can care for them, give them ALOT of time, never cage them, its a responsibility to keep raising them, keep saving them. And the reward is amazing. They are the absolute best. My first ferret lived to just under 10 years old. I'm now 41yrs I've buried 3 ferrets, each one my best friend, and now have two. And they are the smallest most wonderful furry gifts on this planet. It makes me happy to my core that people so in tune with, and so caring for animals are out there doing awesomeness! You rock!!!!

Agnostic-Atheist here. I rather like the way you handled conveying your views in this video. It was done with a great deal of care and respect, and that deserves praise. One of my huskies (named Teioh) had treatment-resistant idiopathic epilepsy. At the end, he was on four different medicines to keep the seizures under control, and ultimately none of them worked. Phenobarbital, Keppra, Potassium Bromide, and Zonissamide. Each one, as it was introduced, gave him temporary reprieve, but eventually the epilepsy would catch up and he would begin having seizures again. He passed away right as the pandemic went into full swing here in USA -- May of 2020. At the beginning of April that year something changed in him, and his immune system began attacking his own red blood cells -- Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA). I spent the next six weeks watching his already poor health deteriorate, watching my poor boy's brilliant mind remain trapped in his beautiful, but failing body. I didn't even get to say goodbye when the time came. New pandemic protocols wouldn't allow me into the building during his blood transfusion. All I remember is sitting in the back seat of my SUV with him, wishing the vet hadn't come out so soon to take him from me, and promising him that everything would be okay. I'd see him in the morning. He didn't want to go, and I should've just kept him with me and let him gently drift away. After he passed away, I became pretty dissociated. A lot of stuff I used to care about, I just didn't anymore. Teioh set a new bar for what blips on my radar, and most things in this world just don't meet that measure. I guess it mellowed me out a lot. Will I see him again when I die? I don't know. I hope so. More than anything else, I would love to have the opportunity to apologize to him. I was not worthy, and he deserved better than me. The universe is under no obligation to give me any answers, so I'll just have to wait and see what happens. I am so sorry you went through all of this with Newtie; however, I know that -- like me with Teioh -- you don't regret bringing him into your life. Not one tiny little bit. Those of us who "get it", well, we know.

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a member of your family is devastating. But try to remember he will always be with you. In your memories and in your heart. I always try to think that our lives are so much richer by having these creatures in our lives and in our hearts and this is the price we have to pay for all the joy and love they bring us. And I have never regretted it. I’m shedding tears and trying to enjoy every day I have with my ferret because I know the time is limited. But I would not trade it for anything. Your tribute to Newt was wonderful. Thanks for sharing with us.

I am sooo sorry for your loss. This is one of the worst ways to loose your pet. Even though you knew he lived on borrowed time, it still comes very suddenly. Sending you lots of love and hugs. According to this both, Daisy as well as Emma, died probably not because of a stroke but of insulinoma. With Daisy we knew, Emme we only suspected that she has insulinoma. But both died the same way. In terror, cramping all the time, screaming bloody murder. That sound will never leave my mind, it was terrifying and it always happens, when you can't visit the vet. In this case: Make sure to always have rectal diazepam at home. It should break the cramping and sent the ferret off to sleep, so you can go to the vet in piece and not have your ferret endure this.

I lost my baby Opal Snek a little over a week ago. She passed in the night from her cancer. I went to give her heart medications in the morning and she had moved on. She was only 3.5 yrs old. i will miss my little baby. Nibbler (my 5yo ferret) misses her and needs a new friend. Heartbroken in Texas. Sobbing watching your video. I feel your pain.

I cried so hard my dog came over and did deep pressure therapy (something she does when I’m having a panic attack). I love my dog so much. I understand what you mean when you say you need animals on a spiritual level. I can’t last more than a few days without a dog. They give me a sense of peace in that I get get anywhere else.
