@@SAMMIsLIFE well they are a sub species of a. Polecat which is part of the weasel family but they aren’t weasels they’re are related to them I think and don’t give hate and be mad if I’m wrong 😑
When my ex-girlfriend and I moved in together, I had two cats and she had a ferret and once we introduced them to each other and showed the cats that the ferret was part of their family, they also knew to be gentler with him than they were with each other because he was smaller. They'd pounce on him but wouldn't use their full weight and they'd lightly play-bite, but not hard enough to hurt him. I was amazed at how nicely they played with him. They even let him chase them around!
You have a great dog!! So gentle and patient. Awesome vid!! I love ferrets. They live life like the them from Benny Hill is constantly playing in their heads.
o.m.g. i cant believe how gentle and sweet the doggie is with the ferret!!! very smart to recognize its a more delicate creature than himself! so freeking cute!
I like how the dog uses such self control, especially since one swipe of his paw if he wasn't could probably kill the ferret. Dog probably thinks its playing with a puppy.
Of all of the ferret videos I've seen on RU-vid, this is by far my most favorite. I'm trying to talk my wife into getting me one for Christmas. She has no idea how awesome they are and this video does do them justice!
That’s what I love about ferrets. They know no fear and no matter how much they get tossed around when playing with a dog, they keep coming back for more. So much fun.
When I was a kid, we had a ferret and a little mix breed dog. The two were basically best friends and the only one who ever got hurt was the dog but it made such an impact on the dog that he never got too rough ever again, even after the part that the ferret bit was surgically removed because we didn't plan to breed him.
I used to have an half Alaskan Malamute half wolf when I was little. He was one of the most beautiful dogs I'd ever seen. This brought back memories of him. My parents had gotten rid of him because we were moving.
This type of stuff amazes me with dogs, that malamute can by all means kill a ferret without trying, but the amount of restraint he's showing here is incredible.
I've had 4 ferrets and a mixture of dogs together (English bulldog, mini pin, and daschund). All got along great together. The dogs were curious at the start and would follow the ferrets around the house all the time. It was so funny to watch them interact. The ferrets would literally jump on the back of the bulldog to play. The daschund like to play bite, but never hard. The funniest times was when she would try and drag one of them by the tail, never once hurting them.
My three-legged cat Schroedinger and huge black lab, Moss, used to play like this. The cat would roll around and bite and scram inside (yes, inside) the lab's mouth and Moss would respond by just rolling on her back, wagging her tail. Whenever the cat would stop, Moss would nudge him as if to say "Don't stop!". They were inseparable until Schroedinger ran away, and Moss hasn't been the same since.
Your animals are gorgeous and your dog plays so nicely with your ferret. My dog was a little over zealous with my ferrets at first, but he plays very gently with them now.
I tried introducing a ferret I owned to a 10 year old mixed black lab. Immediately thought the ferret was a chew toy. Bad times. The ferret wasn't harmed in any way and I never let them play again. Glad that isn't always the case :)
Daxter is NOT being aggressive, he is gentle, NOT rougher than another ferret, CERTAINLY not as rough as a dog. He NEVER closes his mouth, he uses it and his snout to move Mila. Daxter is a FANtastic dog, Mila has a friend and protector for life
My ferret Duece and German Shepard Ares are the same way. At first i thought he was trying to eat Duece but he was picking him up and tossing him. The damn weasel cant get enough of it. Hide and seek is there favorite game
This is pretty impressive for a Malamute. They are known to have strong prey drives, which sometimes makes them and cats, ferrets, birds, mice, small dogs etc., etc. not a great combination. But all dogs are different! I have two Mals - one brother who LOVES kitty cats (even though they aren't too enthused with his big paws), and one brother who just tries to prod them and get them to run so he can chase. Sometimes it's just down to the personality of the dog.
Its so funny...The dog is looking at the ferret like..."Are you kidding me right now?"..My German Shepard used to Play with my ferrets like this. ...so great to see!
N'aww, I'm thinking of getting a ferret too. The funny thing is my dog looks and behaves much the same to yours, although I thinkmine is a fair bit younger. But it's reassuring to see how well they get along!
We ferret sat for a friend once and my lab (who normally hates all other animals) and the ferret absolutely loved playing together. They would run around the yard together and pounce on each other...even loved hanging out by the car window together. I want a ferret so bad! Also want a Malamute...one of my fave breeds ever :D *sigh* Sadly it will be several years before I can get either.
It's amazing how nice the dog was. A few times they could have done major damage to the ferret (like any time the ferret was in their mouth) but didn't. Good job getting them used to each other!
lol my cats did the same with my ferret waldo. they played like brothers allllll the time lol, its kinda natural for animals to play together as long as they aren't being abused by each other or their guardian. i LOVE this video lol
I had two ferrets. Pebbles 1995-2003 and Maggie 2003-2010. Two of the best buddies you could ever wish for. Bertrand (My Yorkie) and Maggie were about as funny a pair as you could imagine. These two are super cute as well. Thank You for sharing such a great video.
Hehe I love how your ferret doesn't give up. Just got 2 ferrets myself and have a gsd/husky... he tracks them around and paws them but they aren't tackling him... they tackle my lil dog... LOL
It's more likely to be the other way around - ever see a ferret tree a pit bull? Our ferrets welcomed the new puppy by grabbing her by the nose! The Pit Bull puppy grew up to be the sweetest thing, but whenever one of our ferrets was in a room with her, she'd climb to the top of the couch and try to scoot her hind legs up the wall... Apparently the ferrets left an impression.
Yes, some dogs are naturally friends with other family pets and some are not. You just have to make sure both animals are held securely while you try and 'make them friends'. My pet terrier was fine with my pet rats and would play for ages with them!
Talk about best buds! :D Pay no attention to any negative comments. They're playing and you've obviously done a great job teaching Daxter to play gentle.
So cute! My current dog would not do well with a ferret. Not that he would hurt them, he just wouldn't know how rough to play with such a tiny creature. I miss having them because they are so much fun to watch! I love how gentle Daxter is even when Mila bites him.
this is such a precious video. the dog senses that it has to be so gentle with the ferret and is even conscious of its size...I love it. usually ferrets also sense if their play becomes too rough and they chill out. I bet that ferret would easily climb up on the dog and just rest too :-)
love you're dog, ferret too, seeing daxter makes me miss my dog, she was a beautiful siberian husky named miko who was 15 years old. mals and huskies are the coolest dogs .
Before my Ferret died two weeks ago due to a bad illness, he played with my pitbull for 5 fulfilling years. Dogs can play with Ferrets as long as they are taught to not be too rough. Course, my Pitbull is a big wimp while the Ferret reigned supreme.
She is going for the neck. I love how she is grabbing Daxters paw like it was another ferret. Then stops, and goes "Waaaait a minute! This isn´t the neck!". She almost had him though. ^^
