In this video I perform the maintenance on a Ferris Zero Turn lawnmower. With an unexpected surprise, a broken axle ... most likely a common problem with these mowers, as it is the second time .
Good equipment costs a lot of money. Just like a race car, taking care of your equipment means it performs when you want it to. Wouldn’t want to miss race day because you had to mow the grass. You have a bunch of very interesting projects in the wings.
Taking your mower to too many track days? Fancy coil overs and negative camber! A little spin-out and you've broken your suspension? 😂 A nice tutorial on equipment maintenance. It's amazing how long things can last when you give them the care and attention they need.
I thoroughly enjoyed this.Thank you. I also have a zero turn... I think it is three years old now. I'm thinking I'd better check and grease a few things...
8:44 Just an observation, or rather my ears told me so ;) that the use of the grinder was rather loud. I don't know how difficult or time consuming it is to try and reduce loud noises ? I didn't mean to sound complaining (but I did it anyway ? lol). Thanks for the video and have a great day.
yes indeed, and I did remove the gras last fall . But used it twice this spring.. That pile-up was from the last two runs this spring as the gras was very tall.. I always do my maintenace at the beginng of the season ( oil, grease etc...).
Steve I heard you saying you don't change oil filter. That is dangerous to engine. Even though you didn't make much km travel with your filter but the fact that it once ran can be detrimental. What happens is that once the oil filter get sitted for a year it dries out. The paper inside dries with oil. Next year the oil will not pass through it as last year. Believe me I saw it myself Moshitoa south Africa
Thanks for the comments, and yes that would be the case if it sat one year without use Not this one last run was December and the next was in March... previuos change "june 2023" so no issue .. the filter had only 27 hours..... I do change it after either 1 year or 300 Hr's as per YANMAR
That seems an extensive break to be from metal fatique. Do you think you clipped something solid? I once cracked a mower deck riding over a loose landscape block.
Not that I am aware , its the second time.. IMO its a weak spot in the design as both wheels are linked with this , as it was a stiff rear axle, so all forces come onto it
