a note is that dishwashing steel wool is made of stainless steel which has nickel, manganese, chromium etc which also dissolve rendering the purity lower, this can be seen by the blueish color of the solution while pure iron ii chloride is a yellowish green
Really? Thanks for the tip! I didn't get good spikes which you typically see in ferrofluid and while I do suspect particle size and lipid coating consistency could be to blame, this could also definitely be a cause. I'll likely try again soon and see how it goes.
