I dunno, I can roll with the “Iron Hands actually ARE vulnerable to Chaos” thing, for one simple reason: suppressing or denying your emotions is not the same thing as not having them. A lot of times, that makes you less stable, not more.

I'm 100% about the iron hands, its unfortunate that they are so left by the wayside in terms of the lore. They have so much potential to be more than robotic killing machines. Been playing them since the start of 8th edition.

The reason emotional suppression made the Iron Hand's weak to chaos. Was instead of releasing said emotions, they bottled them. Like a capacitor, all that suppressed emotion became like beacons in the Warp. So no matter how much strength of will many had, none could resist that much daemon attention.

Well, actually... Since Ferrus raced headlong towards Istvaan V, he left behind most of his Legion. Those who got completely wiped out were his First Company, the most elite part of the Legion and warriors of the primarch's inner circle. The Legion splintered after becoming leaderless (since both Ferrus and Legion elite went *poof*) and various elements of it took a stand against traitors in many places, most notable being the resistance of Shadrak Meduson of the Iron 10th against Sons of Horus, those who answered Guilliman's call to join Imperium Secundus and the Shattered Legions warband.

Manus and Sanginius are much needed by the Imperium in the 41st/42nd.

Iron Hands. Claims to be completely logical. Holds a petty as Hell grudge against the Raven Guard and Salamanders for falling back from the trap at the Dropsite Massacre, despite them also saying Ferrus was illogical in running into said trap.

The biggest problems with these guys,is just how badly they are treated by the black library. Ferrus got screwed over in the early books + his primarch novel is the lowest rated book in the entire series. The Iron hands themselfs seemed to be purposefully made to be terrible with the writers going out o their way to show that the Terran born ones are the only smart ones. How can you waste a legion of killer cyborgs like that

His primarch book is great! There is a point were he is chilled on his throne when someone shoots a laser at him and he blocked it Darth Vader style. He literally moved his hand faster than light to block a shot!

Them suppressing their emotions leading to chaos actually makes sense. When you try to suppress an emotion you really just bottle it and let it build, if anything making it stronger than if you just let it run it's course.

I wonder if they touch themselves will it be cold or will it be a strangers hand

As person who loves engineers and engineers stuff the iron hand is definitely one of my favorite space merine faction, I personally am sad that their primarch was definitely killed although the potential of ressurrection can happen.

Iron hands my favorite chapter and drives home the grim dark.

The reason Ferrus and Fulgrim got along so well is although they came out it from two opposite directions, (Iron Hands perfection through minimalism, Emperor’s children perfection through being amazing at everything including none-fighting related stuff) Both of them site to be perfect tools for their father.

Man such a sad tale, I hope the fresh prince of 40k keeps Big metal hand daddy alive.

Mechanicus are my favorite faction, and these guys are my favorite marines with my all time favorite primarch. It's great that we are getting some books and lore now, if only they came in sooner.

Actually the iron hands had quite a big role in the heresy via the sisipheum, an iron hand ship whose crew have been in some of the best novels in the HH series

They actually have very cool characters who where relevant in the horus heresy like shadrak meduson. I really like the iron hands and i think that ferrus is by far one of the best primarcs so i'm not happy with the fact that every loyalist primarc is disappeared but still alive and ferrus is the only one without a head.

Repressing emotions causes them to explode more violently. Kind of like how explosions in confined areas build up pressure.

Talk about Shadrak Medusan! He was kind of the key Iron Hands character after Ferrus died. Also had a bittersweet ending 😔

I feel like It should be mentioned that when the emperor summoned the legion of the damned in the webway, there was particularly large marine with a hammer and iron hands on the front lines. People speculate that this makes ferrus a demon prince of the emperor (cause the dude has been compared to the chaos gods with him having the legion being lesser demons, and living saints being greater demons).

The Iron Hands are such an obscure chapter/legion I never even knew they existed before I got into the Horus Heresy lore, and even then for some time I thought they were disbanded after Ferrus's death 😂

I never knew they were resentful toward the RG and the Salamanders but it makes perfect sense.

Damn it! I am a 40k newcomer, and I fell in love with the Iron Warriors. Then I got them mixed up with the Iron Hands. Then Imperial Fists pop up! Why the hell are there 3 engineer boi chapters??!! Heart of Iron by Noman is giving quite the nice perspective on the Iron Hands.

I think the theory behind the whole "supressing emotions leads to WARPSUPRISES!" was that the whole fury or anger wasn't gone from what I read in "The Eye of Medusa". They just put it all under the rug of a collective neural-battle-network, which sucked all the emotions away replacing them with empty logic-pocesses instead of learning how to channel those emotions into equally destructive zealot Blacktemplar slaughtering . In one of the end chapters of the book it is even described by one of the main characters, a freshly ascended scout, how he rushes a group of heretic skitarii tearing them apart with his squat all thanks to the wrath being grown through his training. He only recognized how he charged, smashed the skitarii, got a bit stabbed and only after he let out some steam does he realize how he plus other scouts have ripped the skitarii-squat apart with only their hands. So yeah, cool video Major was wondering when you would make a video about them. I was a bit surprised though not hearing anything about their unique structure as a chapter, with them basically dividing themselves in ten Clan Companies all acting as single chapters (own librarium, arsenal, apothecary etc.) and that they possess Land Behemoths which are giant rolling fortresses. But all in all another great video =D

The newer lore is all about how the Iron hands are finally using both Logic AND Emotions. Which is awesome and leads to better story telling. But for me i just can't grasp how they even made it to the year 40k from 30k without literally turning into a chapter of nothing but dreadnaughts.

Theory regarding the "no emotion invites chaos": It may be more along the lines of emotional immaturity. In other words, if you think the flesh is weak, you probably don't know why your meat-staff is harder than your hands, your nose is runny, you are angry, or why you suddenly shoot mind-bullets. Congratulations, you've oficially fallen to the ruinous powers.

Italian fan here . I always laugh at the fact that latin being the root of my language is pretty funny of how ferrus manus ( Mano di Ferro ) is the primarch of the Mani di Ferro ( Iron Hands ) . So if we translate even the name is " Mano di Ferro delle Mani di Ferro"

Inteligence and wisdom are 2 different things

The Ferrus Manus primarch book was fucking amazing! It's such a shame that none of that books insight has been used to go into the iron hands and their primarch more in 30k or 40k!

Supressed emotions do not just disappear. They accumulate, condense, fester and ultimately break through. Therefore the suppression of emotion invites chaos in the long term. Also the hatred and disgust of emotion is itself an emotion. Therefore this attitude merely transmutates all other human emotions in a specific permanent state of mind that is a slow, but nurturing breeding ground for chaos.

Deamons go after iron hands because they're bottling up all their emotions causing them to be very very angry all the time

Talking about Eternal Vengeance, if you want to make it a big thing you should make it that Commissars can kill guardsmen freely and it gives a buff to all of the other guardsmen to make it an actual mechanic. If you get killed it says something like "Your life for the Emperor" so that they know why they were killed. Same with Chaos but it's a sacrifice to the gods

Re-read "Feat of Iron" after watching this video. Yep, Ferrus still sucks with his petulant temper tantrums. Only a few characters are likeable - Shadrak & Bion Henricos (caring for the Imperial Army/auxiliary)

I really doubt it would ever happen but I would love to see Ferrus come back to life and lead the iron hands im not a table top person but if I was I would be for the iron hands without a second thought in my opinion they have the brightest potential for a legion but GW seems to love giving them the metaphorical shaft

I love IH, but GW uses them like Star Trek uses Worf.

At intervals in the game the commisar should be notified of the worst performing guardsman and gets bonus points for killing them

His iron hands story remind me a little bit of Siegfried from the Nibelungen. Killed a dragon and bathed in it's blood. Got inpenetrable skin from this bath. Except on the position where a leave landed. Aaaand of course somebody hit him with a spear on this point.

If you guys think that Corvus Corax, Ferrus Mannus are funny names. Ollanius Persone, goes by Trooper Persone, Ole Persone, He was Farmer Persone on Calth. Someone was smoking something that gave them a case of the giggles when they thought up that character name.

Last I heard Ferrus is haunting his brothers Vulkan and Corvus Corax as a skull ghost, a “skost” as Vulkan put it, telling them things that are weak.

Was never a big Iron Hands fan, but it's hard not to like them after reading the Damnation of Pythos. They may have been stubborn asses, but man they were heroic.

I would return to 40k if Ferrus Manus was somehow still alive. Maybe in a Dreadnaught?

In the "Master of Mankind" novel, the big E created a psychic manifestation of Ferrus when battling a swarm of daemons in the Webway. Pretty neat :)

I think they hyped him up so much to make his death more tragic.

I like it how the legion called the iron hands Is lead by a primarch called iron hands (but in latin)

The Iron Hands are my favorite after Alpha Legion, The Iron Warriors, and The Imperial Fists. White Scars and Space Wolves slap pretty hard, and The Ultramarines are the standard which everyone should meet.

I guess the only reason suppressing their emotions invite chaos is that no matter how much you suppress an emotion, it does NOT make it go away, it just make you ignore it. So they were full of unchecked emotions that just wasn’t allow to show to the surface but chaos still prey on the emotions repressed deep and unchecked in their hearths. I mean it’s fucked up but I get that narrative.
