Leaving Sandusky, Ohio, aboard the ferry to Cedar Point. Filmed in 1976. This service stopped after 1997. Since 1870, many different vessels have taken passengers on Lake Erie to Cedar Point. In 1909, the steamer G.A.Boeckling started taking passengers on the 5 mile (8 km) round trip, from Sandusky to Cedar Point and back. After the Boeckling was taken out of commission in 1952, Cedar Point introduced three new 65 foot, all steel boats, and ran them from downtown Sandusky to Cedar Point. In 1987, the park leased them out to the City of Sandusky Boat Line. The boat line later purchased the ferries and ran them until 1997. The operators of the boat line sold the entire operation because it was no longer profitable. Ridership had been declining for years. The following year, Cedar Point began running the Harbour Belle ferry from the park to the Radisson Hotel (which became Castaway Bay). That operation lasted only a few years.
