oh my goodness, this brings back so many memories for me. Watching Top of The Pops was something my sister and I never missed. I remember this song, we loved Gerry and the Pacemakers.. we knew all the words and sang along with our hairbrushes as microphones! His voice is so smooth, he makes it look effortless to sing. Lovely reaction from you Sue, I agree this is a beautiful song.

@kimr3729 I love that this brought back so many good memories, Kim. I think we all sang into brushes or the like to perform to all our favourite songs...great times 🥰💗

I met Gerry at the Falls Casino about 10 years ago and got his autograph to add to my collection. His voice was still pristine. A sweet and friendly guy. Married his childhood sweetheart for life. Told him I was at the original Cavern before they tore it down and that deserved a kiss. I got one!!!! His backup band was what was left of Badfinger after 2 of them had committed suicide. ☹(Ripped off by their manager). Geriatric and the Pacemakers (as my brother called them) were the first group to have their first 3 singles go to #1. Even The Beatles didn't do that! "How do you do what you do to me" was turned down by The Beatles and hit #1. The other 2 of the 3 consecutive #1's were "I like it" and "You'll never walk alone".

@susieq9801 How cool is that, Linda. I love that you got a kiss too...good for you. I am glad to hear Gerry was a great guy. It always makes me happy to know that some famous people are just kind regular folks 🥰

I love the childhood sweetheart and staying I Liverpool. Fro a time when community seemed like family. Although staying on Liverpool his values transcended boarders for me. Someone to look up to as well as enjoy. Thanks for rekindling memories.

Gerry was a fine singer, and his version of You’ll Never Walk Alone has been sung by fans of Liverpool football club at every match the club has played ever since it was released in the 1960s

Really beautiful song and Jerry’s voice is fantastic Jerry and the Pacemaker’s first 3 singles hit #1 on UK charts A feat not even achieved byThe Beatles This feat was only achieved many years. by another Liverpool band ; Frankie Goes to Hollywood Who included their cover of Ferry Across The Mersey on the B Side of 12” version of Relax

Hey Sue .. Now that you've reacted to The Beatles and Gerry and The Pacemakers, you'll have to check out the other of the Top 3 biggest Liverpool bands, The Searchers .. These guys were huge, with a long list of hits .. "When You Walk In The Room", "Needles And Pins", "Don't Throw Your Love Away", "Love Potion No.9", "Sweets For My Sweet", "Sugar And Spice" and more !

@wayne_twentyfive Great idea, Wayne! I know a few of the songs that you mentioned but not all so I will have lots to explore 🤗💜

Love Gerry and The Pacemakers ! .. This is one of their best, although my fave is the classic "You'll Never Walk Alone" .. Gerry's voice was just wonderful, and always had lots of feeling and expression, whether singing ballads or up-tempo numbers .. Their first No.1 hit "How Do You Do It" ( written by prolific hit-writer Mitch Murray ) was offered to The Beatles to be their first single, but they wanted to do one of their own compositions, and went with "Love Me Do" instead .. Cheers, Wayne

Hey Wayne, I don't know either of the songs you mentioned. I guess we can say that the Beatles did ok with their choice of song though 😜♥️

@@playitagainsue Wow, I can't believe you don't know The Beatles' "Love Me Do", Sue .. I'm sure you must have heard it at some stage .. It only went to No.17 in the UK compared to Gerry and The Pacemakers reaching No.1 with "How Do You Do It'', but they had lots of faith in their original compositions, and rightly so .. Their second single, another original called "Please Please Me" went to No.1, and the rest is history !

@wayne_twentyfive Hey Wayne, no sorry I wasn't being clear. I know Love Me Do by the Beatles. I didn't know all of the Pacemakers' songs you mentioned. I was just being cheeky about saying that the Beatles did "ok" with their choice of choosing to sing Love Me Do. Sorry for the confusion 😜🤗♥️

Unlike the Beatles, Gerry did actually stay in Liverpool. Before my time, but I'm told by older relatives that Gerry and the Pacemakers live act was a hard rocking rhythm and blues sound rather than the pop sounds they recorded. I was told that they were all really nice people too.

loved these guys and bought the 45 rpm instantly after hearing the song once. gerry marsden left us at 78 years old in 2021 and is missed . another stunning tune they did back then was 'don't let the sun catch you crying' . if you have not heard it before you will not want to miss this masterpiece. absolute smash hit : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vf7tgvqof9s.html
