Passenger ferries are the most used mode of transportation between islands in the Philippines and the vary from smaller banca boat ferries to very large ships with sleeping quarters for longer trips. The Oceanjet fast ferry from Cebu City, Cebu takes about 2 hour to Tagbilaran City, Bohol and costs about 500 pesos ($10 USD) for seat in the airconditioned cabin.

Thanks for the tour Rod . Nice to see Bohol again , it’s a lovely scenic island to travel around , and I will hire a scooter next time instead of organised tour in van . I’ve been three times now but still not got to see Anda , must go there next time . Lovely place to live , but I would share your concerns re lack of good medical facilities. Same problem as living in the beautiful provinces , but hours away from big hospitals in city.

We rented a 125 cc motorbike for 400/day for 6 days Brian. We paid 500 for 2 days also. I think the hotel that helped arrange that one received a commission so no problem. It is nice to have your own transportation and stop whenever you want.

So nice to see, how travelling was before Corona. Just remember our last ferry trip from Bohol to Cebu in 2020. At this time it was the only affordable way to get out of Bohol and back to Luzon, after suddenly the 1st lockdown in Manila was set.

Good to see so many signs in English and companies that I know. I just saw one for the California-Texas oil company gas station. In Australia we have plenty of McDonald's, KFC and Subway. We have no Denny's, Wal-mart or Jollie Bee. We have a few gentlemen in our church who are married to Phillipine wives who do give me a lot of information. In 2017 I was on a cruise ship Golden Princess which was very nice. Excellent buffet or if you choose many dining rooms. To protect Australian farmers we do not allow imports of pineapples or bananas. I am told the Hawaain pineapples are sweeter than the Australian ones. Do you know if the bananas in the US taste different to the phillipine ones? I do find your videos of great interest as I have only been in Manila one day and then in a bus up to Tagatay and back. Keep up the videos I love them for which I thank you. John Hutchinson.
@AmazingPhilippines1
@AmazingPhilippines1 2 года назад
Thanks John. There are a couple hundred types of bananas I think and several types found in the markets and stores here. The "common" one tastes pretty similar I think.

@@AmazingPhilippines1 Thank you for the update on my banana file, I had no idea. When visiting new Zealand the bananas on sale were shipped over from Ecaquador. I asked the grocer why don't you obtain your bananas from Australia, we have plenty. He answered be cause they are too expensive in spite of the shipping costs which I am sue would be because of Australian labor costs. You know we don't just work for peanuts the same as Americans too who expect a living wage for their labors. I remember after writing to you we had a drought or maybe a banana disease here about 15 years ago and there was a huge shortage of bananas. To make up the shortfall the Australian Government relented and allowed imports of bananas till the local supply was restored. I must admit that I didn't find any difference in the taste but I don't know if I was eating a local or imported banana. Thank you once again for your effort to answer my question. John Hutchinson.

Thanks for the share -- brought back memories from May of 2019. My wife is from Bohol, and we are planning on building a house there in the next 5-10 years, although I am no where near ready to move there full time -- I still like the good ole USA. She already has land out by Mabini, so we'll build somewhere around that area as her family is from Mabini. When we stayed there in April-May 2019, we stayed at the BLUE STAR DIVE RESORT bluestardive.com/ (even though we didn't do any diving because we were going back and forth to her parent's house in Mabini -- about a 20-30 minute drive). We didn't stay at her parent's house due to CR issues (well, lack of CR I am used to and normal shower) -- but if they get that in the future, who knows. Blue Star Dive resort was great place to relax -- nice pool and jacuzzi tub (not heated tub though). Room was very nice, but a little pricey (went at a time when many tourists come due to different festivals on the island, etc.). I enjoy Bohol, and Tagbilaran is a fun city to visit.

$2200/month is more than enough...just an overview, apartment rental of $200 is above average convenience, food is $500, utility bills around $200(electricity, water, internet).... So the rest of your budget will be for your recreation/entertainment/investment, etc..... 😀

Dear Rod, you needed to pay an extra fee for a bike exchange, if it breaks down? In our experience, we actually had 3 times problems with a rented motor bike. And they replaced it with another one every time for free. Hopefully they didn't scam you ... or we just had been lucky with the rental, don't know. Do you have other experiences of renting a bike in the Philippines? Was it always like this?
