Gaayatri presents a vocal performance in Raga Madhumalati accompanied by Shivam Sudame on Tabla, Pratyush Goberdhan on Violin, and Kaavya Valiveti on Harmonium.
Gaayatri
Gaayatri is a Hindustani vocalist hailing from the Rampur Maihar-Senia gharana, having trained under the late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, beginning her vocal training from him in the traditional Guru-Shishya parampara at the age of 4 until the age of 18. Her repertoire consists of Dhrupad, Khyaal, Tarana, Light Classical, and Regional Folk pieces rendered in the unique Maihar vocal style. Her classical technique consists of Dhrupad, Khyaal, and Beenkar elements, as the lineage takes root from Rampur’s musicians of all three styles. She is one of the very few living practitioners of this lineage of vocal music, having been extensively trained in this by her Guru.
She has had the fortune of living an extraordinary musical life, growing up at the feet of her Guru surrounded by many Greats of Hindustani music such as Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Jasraj, and many others. After her Guru’s passing, she had the fortunate of singing for Smt. Annapoorna Devi, and receiving her blessings to present her lineage’s vocal music in its purest form. Under her guidance, she studied briefly at the Sangeet Research Academy under Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, and in Los Angeles with the late Smt. Lakshmi Shankar.
With her Guru's blessings, she became a performing artist by the age of 7, and a professional touring classical vocalist at the age of 18. She has given numerous live performances in the USA as well as India, notably as an invited guest performer at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, a yearly soloist the San Francisco World Music Festival, and was a featured performer at the annual Jaipur Literature Festival. She is currently working on releasing recorded music, as well as teaching students through the non-profit organization she founded, The Avartan Foundation.
Shivam Sudame
Shivam started learning tabla at the age of 7 from Shri Hemant Ekbote in Irvine. He went on to learn online from Shri Muthu Kumar from Bangalore, before spending 3 years with Shri Aditya Kalyanpur, one of the foremost exponents of the Punjab Gharana. He has since been receiving taleem with the legendary Pt. Anindo Chatterjee from the Farukhabad Gharana. Shivam has had the fortune of playing alongside music legends like Pt. Tarun Bhattacharya and Pt. Pankaj Mishra, and he has performed solos in front of tabla maestros like Ut. Tari Khan, Pt. Nayan Ghosh, Pt. Abhijit Banerjee, and more.
Pratyush Goberdhan
Pratyush Goberdhan grew up learning Hindustani classical from his late grandfather Sri Hari Shanker Adesh and his mother Smt Surabhi Adesh mainly focusing on vocal and violin. He continues his vocal taalim with Pt Arijit Mahanalabis and his mother Smt Surabhi Adesh. As well he recently started sarangi under the guidance of Sri Pankaj Mishra. He often performs with the Asian Cultural Association of Orlando and helps his mom teach music to children as well as special needs adults in the central Florida area.
Kaavya Valiveti
Kaavya Valiveti received her initial music training in Carnatic music from her mother and in western classical music, from various teachers. For the past twelve years, she has been a disciple of harmonium maestro Pt. Dr. Ravindra Katoti of Bengaluru, whose mission for the past several decades has been the promotion of harmonium, in particular as a solo instrument. She has given solo performances, has been a part of jugalbandis, and has accompanied several vocalists and tabla artists, including at the Festival of Tabla in 2019 and 2022.
