Nice! Here again because I’m doing research on this router. Plan on getting one soon because I am planning on building my own kitchen cabinets. This will be my first router in over 20 years. I still have my first which has a very similar design. My good old Dewalt router.

Lol I know what you mean about metric I learned imperial too and I’ve been using metric lately and everything is in tens way faster and easier than fractions you just have to get passed it lol it’s just a measurement never to old to learn and I’m older than you by a bit ! lol give it a try ? You still end up with the same size piece of wood. I enjoy your videos good luck 👍

Great video, thanks. Even though you made fun of those of us using more scientific measurement systems :-). I just bought a OF 1400 second hand and this video was a perfect overview. Why do people dislikes this video?

Imperial is based on the golden ratio. It does not get more scientific than that!

...don't worry, the freedom units will be history in a few generations. Look at your local home improvement center. 10-15 years ago it was hard to find metric stuff....now there's almost an entire aisle for metric stuff....every part I touched on my US made truck was metric.......you'll love metric once you got used to it. I use both systems depending on the documents for the projects I work on and metric is so easy, I love it.

I would love to use metric but I just can’t think in metric. Must be my freedom loving Texas mind. The biggest reason I don’t fully switch is that I get measurements from clients in inches. I could convert to metric for building but then that introduces potential conversion errors. I have a few metric tapes as can use the system just fine. It’s simply not worth the effort for me to commit to the switch when my entire industry from customers to GCs send specs in inches. Hope this makes sense

Really enjoy all of your videos and tool reviews! I’m newer to woodworking and looking to invest in some nicer tools as I’m spending more time doing projects, and your reviews have really helped. I’ve been considering getting this router router... do you know if the rail guides for the router work on the makita tracks?

Watts are just amperage times voltage, therefore 1400 watts is 11.6 amps at 120 volts. Also, US customary units have been defined in terms of the metric system since 1893 :)
@LukePighetti
@LukePighetti 2 года назад
The metric system was created by the French revolutionaries during the French Revolution, which was inspired by the American Revolution, where they were our strongest ally against English imperialism. The imperial system, however, it's a system of units that were imposed upon us by English tyrants. That is to say that the metric system is the true "freedom units" and the imperial system that we use in the USA are the units of English imperialism.
@bestyoutubernonegraternumber1
@bestyoutubernonegraternumber1 11 месяцев назад
Stfu, the imperial system is based on the golden ratio - the tip of your index finger is exactly 1 inch long. Learn about the golden ratio, because that is what imperial is based on. The true freedom units based on natural reality is imperial. I use both. America is still the greatest country on Earth to ever exist, even with all the leftist rejects.

Hi Robert, the extra piece is designed to be use on the Festool track to provide extra stability. Since Makita track has an anti-tip feature, the extra piece doesn’t fit. I discovered it today after receiving a new makita track. I think I’m going to exchange to a Festool track. Festool has a 55in track with shelf hold guide that costs the same as a regular 55in track. If you make cabinets, it might be worth considering.

@msplxp

@@DaileyWoodworks It turns out I gave false information. The extra piece is designed for micro adjustment. Only one piece is designed to friction fit on the track. The other just rides along on the track. If both pieces are fitted on the track, the micro adjustment ability is lost. I found out about my mistake through this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4eLUBhrJEHE.html

Nice review, I have the OF 1400 router, and really like it. Do you have the Festool Domino 500, if you do, how do you like it?
@DaileyWoodworks
@DaileyWoodworks 3 года назад
Love the Domino 500 and use it all the time. I use it mostly for table tops (I make 40-50year) and it’s superior to a biscuit joiner in every way. I also have the knockdown connector system for it. While I don’t use it often it has allowed me to make, then install things that would have been impossible otherwise. I still use pocket holes. As you can’t beat the speed for some applications. I also use a random domino at times to help with alignment during assembly of pieces. I bought mine used from a cabinet maker friend where for him it just didn’t fit his workflow. But for me building one-off custom pieces it’s a valuable tool that I’m glad to have

I would like to compare it to my Bosch MRP23EVS: IMO the BMW of routers. The Festool looks pretty sweet too though. BTW 1400 Watts is about 1.9 hp. 2.5 hp is about 1864 Watts.

how many american horsesseconds are needed to make a gallon of water warmer by 1 fähre, heit, you know, the german guy unit? :) To make matters worse, your car burns some volume of gas (the liquid in a tank :)) so you can drive some distance. Volume divided by distance is actually an area! So you can measure that eg. in square meters :)

@@bestyoutubernonegraternumber1 You would do well to make several passes with a router if the round over radius is too big, or you have a good chance of ruining your wood. Plunge routers accomplish this task very well actually: I have been doing it for years.
@SaintFredrocks
@SaintFredrocks 11 месяцев назад
To figure that out I use a test piece until I get the edge I am looking for, and then I set the plunge depth. If it is a big round over you should make a few passes, starting with a shallower depth, until you get down to your desired depth.

Your index fingertip is exactly 1 inch long. All normal adult index fingertips are exactly 1 inch long. The imperial system is based on the golden ratio. There is no better measurement system because it is based on nature itself. This is coming from someone who uses both. Yes, all adult index fingertips. Any fingertip that is not 1 inch is deformed. Measure 10 index fingertips. 1 inch.
@matousoutrata
@matousoutrata 11 месяцев назад
@@bestyoutubernonegraternumber1 I am deformed then, I admit! :) Mine is not exactly one inch, my wife's fingertip is not one inch either. That is the reason why we went to metric. Imperial system is too complex for us. I do have a degree, but what is 8 and 3/4 or 6 and 3/64 divided by 4 leaves me completely baffled :) It is not important, anyway. You do your maths, I do my math, if the result is a nice piece of furniture, who cares :) Well, I went and bought the router next morning. It is awesome! You made a great review. Good review of the router, but calling metric system communist was not nice at all. Metric is used in Europe and many places and Canada for some time. Also easier to use then imperial. I grew up using imperial in Canada. 1 mile is 5,280 feet, 12" is 1 foot, vs 1000 metre is 1KM, 10mm is 1 cm. Much easier to use. You want to use imperial, that is your choice. Festool make quality tools and I say ouch to their prices. I do own a few of their tools and complain, other then the price.

I hope you’re just trying to be funny, and you know that Amps are a unit of current, and watts are a unit of power, and both were created in other countries, and neither was communist. Unfortunately when you tried to convert it to an “American” unit, there are 2 standard ways to do that, but you seem to have come up with a third conversion- all your own.
