Well, that's a bit snazzy... Just had a look into them and for the price, I'm thinking about getting the Mrs. one as well! All spare parts seem to be a few quid and the colour range is just unbeatable; Olive for me I'm thinking! Thanks for sharing Adam, great video!

Hey Alex great to hear from you again I hope you and the family are well 😁 I had to make a video on this bad boy because they're an absolute bargain and so cheap to run! The coloured versions look great and I must admit I was awfully tempted by the olive green too 😂 Treat the Mrs and you'll be getting a few extra roasties on the plate at the weekend bud😜 Have a great one and make sure you stay safe all the best, Adam

This is a nice review of a good lamp. However, you could use a pointer or two. The wick end should be neatly trimmed with a pair of sharp scissors to match the shape of the burner opening (a slight curve) and the wick end should NEVER be above the metal it when in use. A correct flame will have some blue at the bottom and the rest bright yellow. No flickering, and NO black smoke. I realize that young people did not grow up using these lanterns, but, as an old man, let me advise you to please not burn them like this. This is completely incorrect. With the flame being turned way up too high like that, and the untidy, untrimmed wick, they will produce tons of smoke and cover everything, including the globe, with black soot that will get on everything. If burned like this, the globe will soon blacken and break from overheating and the chimney will become clogged and filthy. It will burn fuel very fast. If a properly burning lamp doesn't provide enough light for the job, you need to get a second lamp rather than turning up the wick too high.

Thank you sir. I have decided to abandon electrical lightning so I am getting one of these for lighting.

I have never trimmed a wick like that and I have tried a lot of ways including flat with a V cut in the center. The best I have found is totally flat with the corners slightly, and I mean slightly clipped off at 45 degrees. Just kiss them off. It stops devil ears. Sharp scissors can't be over looked, I suggest good ones just for that task. One loose end thread can cause a bad flame. Will have to try and compare a trim that matches the dome to a flat. One thing to mention to all, keep that flame low for about 10 minutes then adjust for brightest. The flame will start to grow as it heats the oil and it now flows more easily, when warm. Factor in cold winter weather, you may have to adjust it a few times. The only time I have smoked a globe is forgetting that, lighting it up, max brightest then come back and dirty glass. Turing that flame up so high? I was waiting for the smoke, when that oil heated up, you would have had a coal burning train engine. Been there done that.

Yes, there are various schools of thought on the best way to trim a wick, and the one you describe is a valid choice. But in this video, I saw that the wick wasn't trimmed neatly, if at all. At one point, the flame was turned up so high that the flames were actually visible coming out of the top of the chimney along with black soot - look at 1:38. The chimney was definitely getting smoked, and a flame that high risks shattering the chimney. I'm suggesting, from 70 years of experience with kerosene lamps, that the wick should never be above the blaze hole (the slot at the top of the deflector/burner dome - above which the flame is visible). Only the flame should be above the blaze hole, never any part of the wick, and the flame should always be steady. If it's flickering, it's turned up too high. @@oinc7320

This is the only model to buy. It is the only model which is galvanized and has a baked on powder coating. Other models / colors are paint over non galvanized metal. Nice video.

And that's not a lifting loop, it's for getting your globe out for cleaning. Always hot. Use actual bail handle.

@@ArbourOutdoors I'm living in Ireland and no website seems to deliver here! I have read that you can use a cut up piece of cotton from old cloths as a wick if your really stuck. great video by the way. very informative. keep it up

Is there a trick to getting the fuel cap off? I've tried twisting it off till my fingers became sore and it won't budge. I even used a bit of that rubber for opening jars, and still no go. It's beyond me why it would ever be that tight 🤷🏼‍♂️
@ArbourOutdoors
@ArbourOutdoors 3 года назад
Hi bud the fuel cap on mine came of really easily so unsure why yours has had a problem my recommendation would be to use a wd40 (lubrication) around the cap itself... sorry to hear your having a issue with it bud! If you still can't get it open maybe try returning for an exchange? Sorry I couldn't help further ! All the best and hope you're staying safe, Adam

@@ArbourOutdoors Think I might have a go at it with a pair of pliers and see if that'll do the trick. By the way, good video and very thorough review 👍🏻

@ArbourOutdoors 3 года назад
Cheers David I really appreciate the feedback! i hope you foumd it helpful and that you have some luck with the pliers! By the way make sure you let the wick soak once the fuel is in for at least 10 to twenty minutes otherwise your wick will burn out really quickly!

@@ArbourOutdoors Eureka! The pliers worked. Seems a bit of this gasket material inside the cap had adhered itself to the lip of the fuel port. Appreciate the tip 👍🏻 Will be trying the lantern out this weekend.
