Every time I feel like I’ve lost control of the narrative of my life I come back to this song. It reminds me that there is a deep-seated strength inside all of us. That life has a dignity and elegance that can’t be stripped away by our failures and tribulations. Fight on everyone, fight on.
Even a rose, as inoffensive and fragile as it is is fighting a constant battle against weather, soil, and so on. For us we must be like a wild rose and never stop the fight, strive for what we desire, fight on!
Exactly, my mom was having a hard time taking me to the airport to leave when I went to visit, I played this song for her and it helped more than what I was saying honestly. Music really can help when we don't have the words to say what we need.
My best friend and I bonded over Final Fantasy. We knew every game, played every game. He took his own life in December and things just haven't been the same since. I listened to this song that day and the melody and theme of it just felt like such a perfect send off to my friend. It made me cry. And I don't cry a lot. RIP Alex. You were one of a kind. We all still miss you here.
I have no idea how Uematsu managed to come up with something thats such a short phrase really, but in actual fact it conveys an amazing array of emotions and themes. Purity. Faith. Sadness. Loyalty. Tragedy... The list can go on and on.
Same! it feels like watching a western military war movie and I can imagine multiple bombs being detonated all at once one by one at 4:51 to end off the war, along with every natsi soldier's lives being swallowed by the flames. And then the 5:14 movie theater audience cheers that the protagonist won. Idk why I usually imagine that when resonating this theme😅
There is so much good music happening in just 16 short measures (referring to the original Famicom version). I transcribed the composition today and it's just so good! I uploaded the sheet music to my channel for anyone that wants to see it along with the original track.
ImperialHarbinger not really the case. Other FF games are pretty underrated but have acclaimed songs, like FF8’s Liberi Fatali or FF5’s Battle on Big Bridge
I would definitely place FF2 as one of the more underrated FF-games. The fifth game is probably the most underrated FF, people seem to have a problem with the difficulty.
Final Fantasy II was a masterpiece. Honestly it is on debate for my top 3, beautiful music, a story that is real, and characters that I won't personally forget.
all you have to do is play the ENTIRE GAME with no weapons or armor on. Butt naked, using only your fists as weapons. Only train 1 character to use a sword, since the Blood Sword makes the final battle completely trivial. This game is broken and stupid. The dungeon design is intentionally annoying. The ending is dumb.
The story of FF2 is surprisingly dark. Really took me off-guard when I first played it. Would _love_ to see a full remake of it, unlikely as it may be for it to happen.
This game sucked pretty bad in terms of gameplay. It would have to be completely rebuilt from the ground up with many QOL improvements. And the story was not great. You'd be better off just playing something better, like any other Final Fantasy game
I'm in tears whenever Distant Worlds end the Final Fantasy Medley with this song. It truly is beautiful, and even though I know that they are going to end it on this song I still feel so overwhelmed.
Fits well with Isaac Watts' Psalm 142. 1. To God I made my sorrows known, From God I sought relief; In long complaints before His throne I poured out all my grief. My soul was overwhelmed with woes, My heart began to break; My God, who all my burden knows, He knows the way I take. 2. On ev’ry side I cast mine eye, And found my helpers gone; While friends and strangers passed me by, Neglected or unknown. Then did I raise a louder cry, And called Thy mercy near: “Thou art my portion when I die; Be Thou my refuge here.” 3. Lord, I am brought exceeding low, Now let Thine ear attend, And make my foes who vex me know I've an almighty Friend. From my sad prison set me free, Then shall I praise thy name, And holy men shall join with me Thy kindness to proclaim.
One of the most beautiful (and chivalrous, I guess) FF themes ever. It feels like a national anthem. You hear it and you're ready to go fight for your country. Also, am I the only one who can hear Luke's Theme from Star Wars in this section: 0:41?
all of us can agree that Uematsu can fill our hearts with feelings just by listening to his music, everything he made can give us a mental image of our feelings torwards the song.
Imagine walking around in an FFXII-like setting in the Altair and Fynn castles with rebel soldiers, Minwu, Hilda, etc. standing around offering quests or sidequests to do. I can just see Firion running around in modern graphics in those castles to a point that it's uncanny. As someone with a lot of bias and nostalgia for this game it saddens me that it's a black sheep cause it almost assures it never getting a modern remake or even re-imagining. It's a game that while plagued with flaws was never truly realised in its time and with remasters that merely made the antiquated mechanics less antiquated but ultimately as homogeneous as it originally was
I very much enjoyed the setting, plot, and many of the mechanic ideas that FF2 had to offer. I loved the leveling system, though unfortunately I think it was too easy to abuse early-game to become overpowered, and it was too grindy later on. My other main complaint was the ridiculously high encounter rate. If the late-game grind was lessened, and the encounter rate was stifled a bit, I think I would have few qualms with the game. I could also seeing an action-RPG treatment (similar to FFXV or how the VII remake is looking) could work well with it.
Ff2 could benefit from a full fledge remake from the ground up, changing it back to the traditional leveling system while fleshing out the story and characters. Hell they should even add more places and people to the story, give us more backstory to the rise of the emperor and his war.
MBOmnis Oh I play XIV, since 1.0 and actually playing now helping my friend catch up to the current update (Legacy).. XIV is cool, but I really wished Yoshi P was on XIV on day 1, he originally wanted to basically make XIV, XI-2.. I loved XI. Though I meant non MMO Final Fantasy... No spaceships, guns, or high tech armor lol.. I did love XII though it had the sci-fi battleships lol, kinda reminded me more of Star Wars ^_^.
Mitchell Alexander Many Final Fantasy games are like Star Wars. Square has Star Wars fans within their staff. FFs 2, 4, 6, 7, 12...all heavy Star Wars influence.
All except Yu-Peng Chen from Genshin Impact of all games. He's also a good composer like him, but Uematsu's legacy across all mainline FF game's music is unbeatable.
Daedalos the characters are 15/16 year old kids that go to war and cannot remember the dead of companions, in the end they die poisoned, they talk about the future and then on the credits they are death because they choose to not become l'cie basicly all characters die except 3 or 4 of them
Mmm FF2 already has a lot of deaths, its rare to have a 4th character in a party who doesnt die but i give it to ya, that part sounds sad tho Still i should play it to know more details to compare it to FFT
If I became a king tomorrow, I would ask for this song to play every time I entered the throne room, and remember the lessons Final Fantasy games like this one taught me.
This song is so regal and majestic. You know it's great when it sounds like it would be perfectly at home as the score to an epic movie. Uematsu is a true master, blending European Western classical influences with Eastern sounds (which obviously are less evident on this track). A virtuoso at everything he turns his hand to.
Damn, between the remake version and this one, it speaks volumes without telling a story. The remake one is cheerful, hopeful, ready to move out and fight for the cause of the Rebellion, to vanquish the tyranny of the Empire, to restore their kingdom, their livelihood, their freedom. This one however... This one sounds like the aftermath of the war. The beginning feels like the characters are downtrodden, tired and mentally exhausted, the middle represents them looking at everyone they lost, everyone who died fighting for their cause, everyone who now rest on the battlefield, lifeless, their hope to see a better tomorrow, lost along their lives. However, the ending of the song represents the new hope they get after all the fighting, after all the bloodshed, all the sacrifices. Looking ahead at everyone who is still there, everyone who they fought for, still have a chance of living and thriving, their kingdom, their livelihood, their freedom, restored once again, never to be lost. Long live the Wild Rose Rebellion!!!

For the sake of my friends who were scattered... I will defeat the emperor! I swear on my dream!!
Dude, that first note the violin plays sound so much like somebody singing, this iteration of the music is absurdly beautiful! FF2 is defo in my S tier music album
Goddamn, what an absolutely stunning rendition. I'm in utter awe. Astounding! Monumental! 10/10; would launch 95kg stone projectiles up to 300m using a counterweight.
A great example that real talent is not hindered by technological limitations :) Give this man a bag full of spoons and he could possibly create a symphonic masterpiece
Tbh I kinda see the meaning of this song as a servant who's very loyal to his own kingdom but suddenly became the greatest traitor of all who destroyed the kingdom.
Its all in the rhythm and the frequency of the notes same reason that you can play the same three notes hundreds of different ways conveying different sonic messages
