Good guide. Just wanted to point out that the default proton compatibility option as of today on the beta branch is "Proton Experimental" and crashes the installer. Selecting the second option instead, "Proton 7.0-4" worked just fine. The installation takes about 6 or 7 minutes.

Omg, I know I'm late to the party. But I found that if you hold the Steam button down while you use the trackpads to click the browse/paste the address of FFIX on your SSD, it will let you use the mouse! I was able to paste the path in without a keyboard. Held the steam button down, and my mouse worked like normal for that part!

I just can't get this installer to work. I think there's a problem with the filepath. The drive doesn't have a name? There is no Z drive? At least the drive that has my games has no letter...it's strange. I'll try the tip to just extract the 7z folder and copy/paste the files into the game folder in the steam desktop os. Unless you have other ideas?!

You can also just ignore the installer and instead extract the 7z folder over the existing game folder. Obviously uninstalling won't be possible this way, so you'd have to backup. But it's an alternative method that worked for me.

Quick question, because i'm an idiot. So, that launch setting will force the compat data to go on the SD card instead of the hard drive? Or is that for something else?
@aru3
@aru3 2 года назад
It just grants mogurimod permission to see the SD card, the actual install will depend on whatever path you installed FFIX to. If FF9 is on the SD card, then that's where the mod should be installed. If the game is on the SSD, the mod should be installed on the SSD

I read somewhere that the game crashes towards the end(i think relates to a cutscene) and you have to delete the file mbg116.bytes. Is it still necessary? Not sure if doing this you miss/completele delege a cutscene.

My Moguri mod looks slightly different though. When mine pops, it just let's me pick the resolution and toggle between full screen or windowed, that's it. I do have 3 options to turn on boosts in the menu, but that's all mine shows. Regardless, the game looks so much better on Steam Deck with this mod and this video helped me alot! Any advice for getting a custom font working? I've got an OTF font I'm trying to use with it, but even though I put the font file in ~/.fonts and reloaded the font cache, and edited Memoria.ini to reflect the correct font name, the game just loads the default.

Maybe try ~/.local/share/fonts I'm not too familiar with configuring fonts for games running via in Proton, but I think that this path is used for fonts in Arch and Arch-based distros. You may need to run `fc-cache -f` for to refresh your fonts after adding them to the directory

I know this guide was a year ago, but just did this now and wanted to say thanks. Btw if the game is installed on an external SD card, you can just copy the downloaded zip to a folder in the same SD card (e.g. the steamapps) and extract it there. No need to do that step where you grant the mod access to the SD card. All other steps are the same.

It should work fine for non-flatpak Steam, I tested this on both the Deck and Fedora 36. I did NOT test this with flatpak steam, so no comment on if it'll work there. Do note that some steps might differ slightly depending on the distro. for example, the files app in GNOME desktops don't seem to have a way to copy the filepath, so you may need to do the following: 1. right click on the folder, and select `Open in Terminal` 2. type in `pwd` into terminal, press enter. you'll get the filepath
