The thing is, even after watching for 100th of times, you can still feel goosebumps from many FFXIV trailers. It happened to me, it happened to majority of the players, it could happen to you too.
fun fact at the end of the trailer, when the Warrior whistles for his chocobo mount, the mount that pops up is the legacy chocobo complete with barding, black etchings on its beak and the black tipped feathers. the same mount 1.0 players got for subscribing to the game during its tumultuous 1.0 development.
to specify what happens when the old dude cast his spell. he teleported the player character stand-in and his party 5 years into the future. basically that cinematic is what was played when they shut the servers down at the end of 1.0 and they spent those years redoing the game. when the game was rereleased as A Realm Reborn they added the bit after. to show the players "coming back" to the world, which is now different from how they would remember it
If you pay attention, at 5:40, you can see the curvature of the planet on the left side. That sealing spell took the skies of the whole continent just to restrain that dragon, Bahamut. He is this powerful, for he still managed to break it, not only being the size of a city.
What's wonderful about this trailer is once you complete each expansions, the meaning of the trailer expands and changes. I recommend watching it again after finishing shadowbringer in the way future.
I agree I just finished shadowbringers last week I am so amazed of the writing level in this games and the ending of 5.3 OMG I wish I can relive the experience of shadowbringers again
I've never heard of a spell so powerful that it teleports people from Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 to A Realm Reborn. A spell that is so meta it changed the direction of the development team. If only such a spell can be used in Blizzard that would sever the chains of Activision.
When they decided to remake the game after 1.0's failure, one of the issue they sought to address was players' complaints that the zones were too cut and paste, and visually dull. Bahamut's attack was how they chose to explain in game the changes to the geography.
Ahhh ok, so I would know this as Deathwing's Cataclysm. I think that's such a genuine and brilliant idea. They could have very easily just released patch notes or text. But to forth that much effort into a cinematic to explain it??!? +10 Square Enix
@@KingRaliant they're really good at adding that sort of thing to the lore for explanations. even later in the game they give party finder a lore reason for it working with other players being summoned to your side to help defeat a common enemy.
@@KingRaliant No no, what I mean is most people that watch this don't make the connection the moon was a prison. A lot of people just think the dragon was asleep in the moon.
I can understand where people are coming from now with this. Like....I got chills down my spine from this trailer. I'll probably re-watch that just when I'm in the mood to see some awesome trailers haha
It's not really made very clear but there is a Time jump from when it fades white and when the party characters teleport back in, which is about a five-year difference. The Warrior guy is a default representation of us the player character, you'll see him in all the promotional work. The community like to call him derplander or Meteor.
I actually did notice in another ingame cinematic that it said 5 years later. And then they just appeared I was like...wait what. This helps fill in me being lost haha. Thank you!
For the 1.0 players, this was the literal end of their world. What would it be like to be a legacy player and see this in real time? As you learn more about the history in-game, that this was the Battle of Carteneau that so many NPC's reference, that the old man was Louisoix, the original leader of the Scions, that he sacrificed his life to send you into the future,, the trailer only gets more powerful.
"What would it be like to be a legacy player and see this in real time?" well.... i can answer that for you.... (copying my own reply to this video in reply to you :) ) When this cinematic firsts came into being..... The only thing those of us in 1.0 knew, is that the 'story' for FFXIV revolved around the Garlemalds plot called "Operation Meteor" which was a operation to literally smash the lesser moon Dalamund (the big angry red ball), down into Eorzea, whipping away all resistance to Imperial Conquest. None of us players, and not even the Galreans (story wise) knew there was a vary, vary, vary, angry dragon within it. The only one that possibly may have known... is explained later in FFXIV's story (so wont spoil it for you here). But even that 1 who possibly knew... was powerless to stop what had already been set in motion. None of us players knew what was coming..... All we knew is the red moon was getting bigger and bigger, as the days to the shutdown drew near. Then a massive 'invasion' took place, with NPC Galrean soldiers appearing everywhere... and while we were fighting, "Answers" was playing in the background.... then all our screens went black suddenly, without warning, and we were greeted with that cinematic (everything up till the point that Grandfather teleported us to safety 5 years into the future, and the screen goes white), followed by a message from the Dev's stating "We will be back". Everything 'after' that screen goes pure white (ie: the section from 6:18 and beyond) was the "opening" cinematic for 2.0.. also known as "A Realm Reborn". The Dev's hard work in keeping their promise of "we will be back", with the 're-launch' of FFXIV, now titled "FFXIV: A Realm Reborn". Of all the years i have been playing games... of all the fantasy books i have read.... Nothing grips my heart and tugs at my feels as much as "Answers" (and FFXIV as a whole) does. So many memories are tied up into that one song, that it gives me tears and goosebumps every time i hear it. And this cinematic STILL brings me to tears.. even 10 years later and after seeing it 80+ times.... Quick edit: p.s. I HIGHLY recommend you look up the 'lyrics' for "Answers"..... its lyrics have such a bigger meaning for someone who now knows the history behind FFXIV's early story...
stumbled across this while watching reaction videos of the arr trailer and his first comment when he started watching the trailer "it's like a planet's dying" - my guy you don't know how right you are on so many levels XD
Hey ! Glad to have ya aboard! here's some quick info/advice. First, the starter areas and dungeons were meant to run on the limited memory of a playstation3. Bigger stuff ahead in time. Servers are FLOODED with new players right now, so sometimes you might see problems. This has happened before and they always add new servers. Ignore sidequests for now. Save for when you unlock additional classes. Main scenario gives a ton of exp. Just do main quests with a fiery icon and your class quests every 5 levels. Also kill enemies with a golden kidney icon above them for extra exp. And do the "hall of novice quests" at level 15 in the adventurers Inn for gear and a ring that gives 15% more exp!
oh yeah, at level 15 unlock challenge log in Limsa Lominsa inn when you can. It gives extra exp and coin for just playing normally. Bonuses like "do 3 dungeons " reset each Tuesday. And you can also unlock dying your armor and Glamours (transmog)in West Thanalan's Vesper Bay.
This is SUPER HELPFUL! I've just been doing MSQ and about to start Samurai or Dark Knight I think. Like Ninja has been fun, but feeling trying out one of those big boys. That inn quest I"m going to have to go check out immediately. Big tip, ty so much!
I’ve been playing since late 2015, seen this more times than I can remember, and this trailer still gives me chills. I still listen to this song all the time
@@KingRaliant 💯. If you liked that song you should listen to Answers Reprise. It’s is a haunting version of the song that was played before they shut off the servers ending the original FFXIV. There are RU-vid videos of the final days. If you can imagine it, everywhere you walked Answers Reprise was playing and Dalamud ( the red moon that the dragon was in) was hanging in the sky. Just before the end, the scene played of the battlefield like the cutscene. Once the dragon broke out of the moon and laid waste to everything the servers shut doesn’t and players got a server cannot be reached message
Yes they purposely making it open for interpretation. Watch again after you finished Bahamut Coil, then again after Shadowbringer. This scene not only end off 1.0, start off 2.0, it’s also ties up the core story which continues every expansions like a Game of Throne.

Upvoted before I even watched just for the sheer charisma on display here. If your playthrough is half as entertaining as your intro I'll have to follow along man, welcome to Eorzea!
you sould watch flame of truth trailer, if you haven't already. It is basically the same trailer till the point of the wizards sacrifice, but in flame of truth you'll find out what happens afterwards with the wirzard and the dragon ;)
The most annoying thing is that I was there. I was a 1.0 player. But due to some shenanigans with my old FFXI account, my original FFXIV account was linked to my now ex girlfriend's email address. Which I can't access. Meaning when I forgot the password, I couldn't reset it. So I essentially lost my legacy status. Somewhere out there is the code that will give me my legacy chocobo and tattoo. But now as Evil Pikachu I'm well over a thousand hours in. Not worth starting it all again for a fancy chocobo.
A quick bit of context: That wasn't a planet, that was the artificial Allagan Moon, within which was sealed the Elder Primal Bahamut for 5 thousand years. During the war between the United Eorzean Alliance and the Garlean Empire, Bahamut ended up being released from the moon and laid waste to the land before disappearing with Louisoix Levellieur. This event was known as the Seventh Umbral Calamity and heralded the termination for the original servers for Final Fantasy XIV before it was relaunched as "A Realm Reborn." This was the last thing the original players saw when the servers went down. It's also not stated, but there's a five-year time difference between when the characters vanished and when they reappeared, that's why everything is so peaceful.
Enjoy the game, the story and all the content! Hopefully, you'll do a reaction for the Heavensward trailer and all other expansions too when you get there!
Absolutely will be!! If you're subscribed, you should see the new uploads coming out for FFXIV. Basically right now all I'm doing is enjoying the game, and loving being able to cover reactionary content with it. I. CANT. WAIT. FOR. HEAVENSWARD.
To really appreciate the genius of this trailer you have to read up on the launch of the OG FFXIV, it's disaster and it nearly being shut down. Yoshi P and his development team get a ton of fanboy praise but in this case it's 1000% warranted. What they did to save this game, and how they incorporated the failure and the relaunch into the plot of the story is incredible.
Have you watched the noclip documentary on the whole event of remaking ff14 after the failure of the first version? Super recommend, it's on RU-vid and split into 3 parts - before the calamity, the calamity, and after.
"That whole planet is gone." Yes, there's a reason for that. This isn't actually the ARR trailer. It's the final cinematic of 1.0. The actual trailer is the bit that starts when the sun comes out and the fanfare starts.
This was a awesome reaction I definitely recommend seeing final fantasy xiv the flames of truth trailer thats another final fantasy xiv trailer that hits hard in the feels
The fact alone that they had the balls to admit they messed up and put this much effort into a cinematic to CLOSE (and later reopen) the game rather than just milking the audience until the game died and then moving on makes me really happy. This is how you take responsibility and make good on your promises. Meanwhile, at Anthem:
i see you never played final fantasy games before :D ? Final Fantasy 14 is full of References to the Final fantasy games but the good thing is you dont have to know them all to enjoy the game, it is like more as a easter egg for the people who grow up with final fantasy games.
Flames of Truth isnt really a 'full' trailer so much as it is the Original Ending cinematic, combined with he later added "Explanation" Cinematic from the Coils raid. Not saying Flames of Truth is bad.. (it makes me tear up every time i see it), but its more a mashup, than a 'full trailer' :) Just like the one he reacted to is actually a mashup of the ending Cinematic for 1.0, and the 'actual' opening cinematic for 2.0
@@KingRaliant How strange, since it is the same video, only that you can see how the fight between Bahamut and the old man ends that right now I forget his name
@@KingRaliant Flames of Truth will automatically play once you finish the Coils of Bahamut (the 2.0 raids) and I would suggest you doing that first since the story cutscenes in Coil answers tons of open plot questions :) enjoy the game!
if you liked THAT cinematic just wait how much the design, music and hype improves with each expansion trailer xDE Only watch them before you start each expansion, dont do it now!!
So the character in the warriors costune is the "Canon" Appearance of your character, so the same person models you in every trailer expac! If your a new player to FFXIV can I recommend doing a reaction to a youtbe series called the Fall and Rise Of FFXIV, its a reaccount of the horrible early days of the MMO from a players perspective and even talks about how the trailer you just saw come about. If your interested id love to see your reaction to it as well as properly alot of your other FFXIV audience! Ill post a link to the playlist below :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CJ9CmxaQ3q8.html
Make sure you write down you id and password if you take a long term break. Currently locked out of my accound cause non of my security questions are working.
There's an awesome alternate version that shows what happens with the dragon after the heroes get teleported away instead of following them to their fresh beginning ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1xOOFCltZuc.html
Something the comments section may have already told you, but this is actually 2 trailers in 1. It's no secret FF14 had a rocky start. Well, in the final months before server shutdown, things apparently got pretty dire (I wasn't there, this is largely hearsay). We're talking corrupted teleportation crystals, strong monsters roaming the countryside, and regular incursions against Garlean forces (the people with the mechs in the first trailer). All the while a red moon appeared in the sky and started to loom larger and larger, while a more haunting variant of "Answers", the song in the first trailer, played as the BGM for the general world. When the servers shut down, players were instead greeted with this trailer, along with a reminder that for every end, there is also a beginning. The second trailer which starts at 6:21 is when they announced that they were coming back. That we were approaching levels of We're So Back that you never could believe was possible.
