This is what it looks like when a Veteran World of Warcraft Players sees the Final Fantasy 14 Trailer for the first time.
Seems like World of Warcraft vs Final Fantasy 14 might finally come to an end.
For me at least, the Final Fantasy 14 trailer really hyped me up to try the game and give it a fair shot.

i mean yoshi-p absolutely freaking hated 1.0 so i wasn't surprised by the fact that he didn't just want to burn it to the ground, he wanted to nuke it from orbit. but the way he did it is so amazing that even 10 years after the nuclear fallout of 1.0 the cinematic trailer of ARR is still mind blowing new players to this day.

@Fuhe Yu the moon was a actually in the sky in-game for weeks leading up to the shutdown. Getting bigger and angrier each week. And a soft, tonal, version of "answers" was played in every zone the day of the shutdown, right up till we all saw that video (up to the 7:03 mark). Then were booted from the server with a message from the devs saying "we will be back".

One thing that isn't clear in the trailer is that there's a 5 year timeskip in between Bahamut destroying stuff and the 5 people reappearing in the forest. The person with the axe is representative of the player and features in every trailer. When 1.0 shut down we were only shown the first part with Bahamut winning and the "player" warped away. It was later when 2.0 was ready to be shown that the second part got revealed and it was explained that there will be a timeskip and that for an unknown reason a lot of the vegetation in the destroyed regions started growing back at an increased rate. The old man teleporting us to safety and smiling as the destruction overtakes him is Louisoix Leveilleur, the founder of a group of people who helped the players throughout the 1.0 journey in an attempt to stop the red moon from falling. Other members of the group feature in the trailer praying for the power to stop Bahamut and later doing stuff in the 5 year later part. If you were a 1.0 player, or legacy player, and you finished a certain quest in 1.0 you would end up in the middle of the forest just like in the cinematic and get special cutscenes throughout the game involving people recognising you from 5 years ago. you also get a back tattoo and a special mount.

All of the members of the Circle of Knowing were famously vaunted Archons of the legendary city of Sharlayan, and you can find nearly all of these Archons in the Seventh Dawn (Y'shtola, Urianger, Thancred, Yda, Papalymo). To add on, granted months later, some things that players did during that 1.0 apocalypse are lore now. The mentioned Great Gabbu Wall in game was a thing players did. They formed a wall of gabbu mounts in front of Ul'dah while devs spawned stronger and stronger monsters to combat with players. Most servers made a gabbu wall, but apparently a few without that many of the mount settled on a chocobo wall. There's a few other things here and there, but things the players did also wound up in lore.
@Shiirow

The small little details. The warrior with the great axe in the trailer is the official stand in for the player character. @@Chitor Welcome to the community! As a tank who came from other MMO's (Mainly EQ, WoW, SWToR, LOTRO, and a few others) you won't have difficulty adapting except in two areas that I struggled with: - Everyone is expected to contribute their share of DPS. We often say there's red DPS (Actual DPS Classes), BLue DPS (Tanks), and Green DPS (Healers). So you'll want to learn your rotations and such to put out decent damage. It's not like it's a huge competition or race, no one will be checking you via a meter in each group or anything silly. BUt it's just part of the game. - Your cooldowns are for regular use with some exceptions, not just "Oh S***" buttons. So even on trash pulls, you'll want to rotate your defensive cooldowns to lower income damage, which leaves the healers free to contribute more DPS themselves since they have to heal less (See point 1). When I first started, I hoarded my Cooldowns for Tankbusters and was taking so much more damage than I needed to until I learned how the dynamic in XIV differs. You'll do fine however, don't sweat it. Welcome again!

"What happened?" This is a good question! And the answer lies in the Coils of Bahamut raid! Welcome to the party man :D Things I can tell you off the bat - If you tank in WoW, you won't be too far off when it comes to tanking in FFXIV. Only real difference is that it's good to use cooldowns with a bit more frequency rather than only in emergencies, as you get so many you can rotate it so you almost always have something up keeping you going. Marauder and Gladiator are the starting tanks, but dark knight and gunbreaker are unlocked to change to at later levels. For the briefest overview of each: Gladiator: Becomes paladin at 30. Has the pally-bubble from wow, and is the only tank with a true healing spell. Marauder: Becomes warrior at 30. Beefy HP tank with a very burst-focussed DPS rotation. If you like big numbers, this is your guy. Dark knight: Unlockable at the first expansion, uses a greatsword, really good magic mitigation and has a great personal shield ability. Feels "meaty" in combat with those massive sword swings. Gunbreaker: Unlockable at level 60, uses a gun-sword. The fast-paced tank that feels like a dps rotation, good fun. I reccomend not watching the other trailers for the expansions until you reach them, as they show off elements of the story for players who were waiting when they first came out, especially the heavensward one which even comes with a spoiler warning for that reason. Don't worry about meta. Due to FFXIV not using specs or talents (You wont miss them) , they can very closely balance every class in the game, literally all of them are viable in all content, so its all about what you like the look and feel of. Combat will feel slow at first as a veteran MMO player, but it's done that way to ease in new players, and it wont be too long before you're weaving several abilities between cooldowns at a more WOW-like combat pace. Final note: Everyone is a DPS in final fantasy. Tanks are DPS that take hits, your mitigation is both to keep you alive, and to save your healers from healing you as much as possible. Because the healers are dps! The less they heal you, the more they can attack, and they do serious damage too.

To add on to this: when you level up your "alt" classes, you get a huge xp boost for everything that's not your highest-level-class. So if you have a lvl 50 paladin, and decide you want to try out a new class, you get a huge xp bonus (I think it's +100%?). If you then switch to your lvl 49 white mage, you still get that bonus until it also hits lvl 50 (assuming you don't lvl up paladin again). So if at any point you decide you want to try a new class either just for fun, or because you're just not feeling your current main, switching is VERY easy!

I know this is old, but this is one of the greatest pieces of video game animation of all time and it still makes me emotional every time, so gonna answer some questions! 2:07 It's a moon-sized prison containing Bahamut, a giant world-ending "Primal". He was imprisoned by an ancient race and the Garleans (darth vader guys) accidentally freed him. They didn't know that Bahamut was imprisoned inside and simply tried to smash the moon into the planet. 6:00 The world's most powerful magicians try to re-imprison Bahamut with magic, but they're not able to. Bahamut breaks the spell then starts to charge a Flare attack, they increase in power like Megaflare, Gigaflare, Teraflare etc but this is beyond anything any non-Bahamut can do. Louisoix knows that they've lost, so he time-skips the heroes (Warriors of Light representing the in-game classes) 5 years into the future and sacrifices himself in the process, hence his smile; he knows at least there's still a chance that the Garlean Empire will be defeated. In the full cutscene released with FF14: A Realm Reborn's launch, it's revealed that Louisoix isn't killed by Bahamut; he channels enough magic through himself that he becomes another Primal, Phoenix, and defeats Bahamut by literally spearing himself through Bahamut's chest. The magical overload then destroys Louisoix and spreads magical Aether back into the world. This is what causes the enormous crystal shown at the end of the trailer. In FF14:ARR Bahamut's corpse is a sequence of playable dungeons with a super interesting story revealing some of the history of the Calamity.

Bit of info, the Warrior of Light got teleported 5 years into the future where Eorzea is still dealing with the after effects of the Calamity. If you had played 1.0 for a certain number of time, there are certain scenes throughout 2.0, the base story, where people recognize you as the WoL. These are legacy cutscenes and can be found on RU-vid if you're interested but make sure to play through 2.0 first before you do. If you havent played 1.0, you get the generic fresh start as an aspiring adventurer As for what fits you, the great part about the game is that you can be literally everything on one character. If Paladin doesn't fit you, you got plenty of other options to choose from. All the jobs in ARR start out as base classes, so in Paladin's case, it would he Gladiator but upgrades when you complete the level 30 class quest and have gotten to a certain point in the MSQ. Do NOT watch the other trailers for the expansions, Heavensward in particular as that one has heavy story spoilers in it right out the gate. Those are saved for when you've completely finished the story of what you're doing and you'll know when you get to those points as the game has 2 separate credit sequences, 1 after beating the base story and another after beating all of the post story added in through patches
@orangezforus9092
@orangezforus9092 2 года назад
Quick thing, since you seemed to be confused at the teleportation part of the trailer, FFXIV 1.0 was a trainwreck, it was terrible. The start of the ARR trailer is part of the 1.0 ending cutscene, a video that played before servers went offline leading into 2.0, or as it would soon be called A Realm Reborn. ARR takes place after these events, and the cutscene has a bit extra that isn't shown in this trailer including the old man's (Louisoix's) fate. Another thing, The moon like thing is called Dalamud, it was one of Eorzea's two moons (Alongside Menphina) and also cage to the beast Bahamut. In the patches leading up to the close of the game, Dalamud grew larger and changed to a red color. There is a lot of story stuff wrapped up in there so I hope you're enjoying it all!

Welcome! One of the great things about this game is that you can play all classes/jobs on the same character, so if you don't like the way one is playing, you can hop over to another guildhall and sign up to learn that class. From there, it's as easy as switching out your weapon and BOOM, different class! I second the above recommendation for Larryzaur's job video; it's an excellent overview. If you're worried about tanking, the vast majority of people will be very understanding if you say "hey! this is my first time doing this dungeon!" and if you have prior MMO tanking experience you should be able to pick it up in no time at all. I do suggest JoCat's "Crap Guide to FFXIV - Tanks" though if you'd like to get an idea of a few general specific things this game has for tanks. Great info in a funny video.

2 more years and it still gets me! Nobuo Uematsu is the greatest composer of video game scores there's ever been, and I think it's the use of scale in the trailer too; the sheer size of Bahamut and the amount of destruction compared to the two armies that seem insignificant when you have to zoom out so far to even see Dalamud and Bahamut above them. A city that players spent hours, days, months exploring and getting to know, meeting NPCs and learning their stories... Levelled in seconds as if Bahamut doesn't even notice it. The only people who can really see what's going on are the world leaders from the top of a mountain towering over the battlefield. They really nailed the scale of what's happening which helps the emotional impact. Even the term 'calamity' carries so much weight. It doesn't really mean the same thing as the war or even Bahamut himself, it's just so *sad* that the Garleans wanted to conquer the world and accidentally destroyed it.

A good and quick recommendation, pick what you think looks cool. All the classes are balanced to make them viable, and to be "good" you just have to be good at the class you choose which is all based on aesthetics imo, but there are other factors. Welcome to Eorzea and hope you enjoy.

As soon as you mentioned FF9 I knew you were going to love this game. It's a Final Fantasy game first and foremost. It has all of the beautiful storytelling you've come to expect from the FF franchise and in my opinion it isn't just the best FF story I've ever played through, but the expansions are actually the greatest and best stories I have ever played through in a video game. Period. Actually, it's even in the top of my short list for greatest fiction stories. After playing for some time I had the same reaction you did. I sort of beat myself up for not trying it sooner than 2018. You can play a Pally in 14. It's a tank. If you don't like it, pick up another job. You can level every single combat, crafting, and gathering job on the same character. No need for alts. Someone mentioned the Larryzaur video called basically which job... and it is a good guide. There are some jobs that you can only pick up at later levels like Dark Knight, Samurai, Machinist, etc. So, if you play all the way to level 50 as a Paladin tank, and you decide that's not for you, then you could jump to DPS as a Samurai since it starts at level 50 you wouldn't be starting over fresh. The best advice I can give you is that ALL classes are viable and useful in endgame meta. You don't have to worry about Guardian Druid being better than Warrior for a raid tier like you would in WoW. If you like the look of a class and the role it plays pick it up and enjoy it without worrying about meta. Some folks will warn you that the 2.5 second global cool down makes the game feel slow. Coming from WoW, I really didn't notice this too much since you level fairly quickly in the beginning and you're learning a new game. Some folks will also warn you that the story in A Realm Reborn is slow, tedious and grindy. In my experience, it was fine for ARR 2.0 until 2.1 at which time it felt very slow to me. But that was several years ago. They have removed some 100 quests from the post A Realm Reborn storylines, what we refer to as 2.X. My wife started playing in late May and I have watched her and helped her as I can and I must say, the story moves along pretty nicely now so you may not find it grindy at all. I think the FF14 community just wants to temper new folks expectations somewhat so they stick with the game but you may not find it slow at all. The community is great. They mean well. And to be fair, the first expansion, Heavensward is a damn fine story. The community will warn you about spoilers, and it's a legit concern. I don't know how you view spoilers - some folks don't mind knowing Vader is Luke's father before they see Empire Strikes Back, and some do! I will suggest, though, that you do not buy a story skip. FF14 is not like WoW. In WoW, the story is an afterthought and the leveling process is merely a means to funnel you to end game where Blizzard believes the "real" game starts. FF14 is very much bout the story. Yes, the endgame is great, full of raids, big old boss fights, etc. but the narrative is almost sacred. By that I mean everyone experiences the exact same story progression. in WoW you're used to everyone having different narrative backgrounds. As a long time vet, you experienced the Legion and Lich King. To someone who just started playing in Shadowlands, they experienced being on an Island then moving to BfA or some other expansion. They didn't start in Kalimdor and explore it like we did back in the day. In FF14, the Main Scenario Quest (MSQ) binds all players together with a shared history. You don't need to be in a rush. You have months before the new expansion drops and can complete the MSQ before November gets here. As I wind down a long and boring post full of unsolicited advice (sorry about that!) I welcome you to the community. Early on in the tutorial the game will mention the sprout icon above your head. It lets people know you are a new player. Don't worry! You can keep it turned on. Most experienced players love helping sprouts! I know you are coming from WoW where if you tell people that you are new to a raid they'll vote-kick you. Don't be afraid to let people know you are new to a dungeon or raid or any content because people will definitely try and help. Yes, you can run into a few toxic idiots once in a while, but it is generally few and far between. I can count the toxic experiences I have had on one hand. I look forward to seeing your future videos on your progress. I looked you up on Twitch. If you're new, you might consider streaming your experience. We love WoW vets trying the game out, so feel free to post that in your stream descriptions! Also, Subscribed here! Good luck and have fun!!

If you succeeded in clearing Rivenroad and the "Final Prayer" quest in 1.X and transferred your character over to ARR you got a special character intro like in the cinematic where you get teleported, you also got a special tatoo on your back. One character can play all classes/job so you can always try each out to see what you like.

Welcome to FFXIV. To be honest, it would take a whole essay trying to outline the jobs. But the shortish answer is if you want to tank, you'll want to go with Marauder or Gladiator. As quite a few people have stated, you can play all jobs on a single character after you complete the level 10 job quest. That includes all gatherer and crafter jobs - or what people refer to as an "omni-crafter". Here's a summary of the starting jobs, where they start, and what they can evolve into after completing the level 30 job quests: Marauder turns into Warrior. Role is tank. Starting city is Limsa Lominsa. Gladiator turns into Paladin. Role is tank. Starting city is Ul'dah. Pugilist turns into Monk. Role is physical melee dps. Starting city is Ul'dah. Rogue turns into Ninja. Role is physical melee dps. Starting city is Limsa Lominsa. Lancer turns into Dragoon. Role is physical melee dps. Starting city is Gridania. Archer turns into spoony Bard. Role is ranged physical dps. Starting city is Gridania. Thurmaturge turns into Black Mage. Role is caster dps. Starting city is Ul'dah. Conjurer turns into White Mage. Role is healer. Starting city is Gridania. Arcanist turns into both Summoner & Scholar. Summoner is caster pet dps. Scholar is discipline priest with a healing pet. (Experience earned on either Summoner or Scholar applies to both jobs). Starting city is Limsa Lominsa. The only thing to note is that the job is what determines your starting city.

A bit of lore for you (sorry if it has been said before): The first version of the game was a disaster and they decided to reboot it. They did so cannonically with Dalamud, the red moon, being brought down by the Garleans (the Darth Vader style villains). You could see in game, with each patch, the moon getting larger and larger in the sky. On the last patch, it was taking a huge place in the sky, no atmospherical music was played and you could hear the lady you hear in the trailer singing in the distance. When the servers shut down, the first part of this trailer was played. Players didn't know what was inside Dalamud (and you guessed it right, it's Bahamut) The old man is Louisoix, a powerful mage. He's trying, with the prayers of people, to lock away Bahamut again and fail. He did teleport them, but not somewhere else. He teleported everyone 5 years after the Calamity. Players who had played the 1.0 version could start their ARR adventure with their 1.0 character and had a special starting cutscene showing their character being teleported just like the group you see in the trailer. The main characters had no memories of your 1.0 character up until the end of ARR.

Welcome to Eorzea! Basically there are two tank classes to start (Gladiator: Sword and Shield, becomes Paladin; Marauder: Two-Handed Axe, becomes Warrior) ONE healer class (Conjurer: Wields sticks/wands and staves, becomes White Mage) two magic DPS classes (Thaumaturge: Wields more sticks, becomes Black Mage; Arcanist: Hits baddies with a book; becomes Summoner AS WELL AS the second healer job, Scholar. It’s complicated) one physical ranged class (Archer: Bows, becomes Bard) and two melee DPS classes (Lancer: Spears, becomes Dragoon; Pugilist: Uses D&D “Monk” weapons like metal knuckles, Tonfa, claws, etc, turns into Monk). There are other jobs you can open later such as Rogue (Uses daggers, opens at level 10, becomes Ninja) Machinist (Uses a gun, opens at level 30) or Red Mage (Uses a small sword, opens at 50). Best thing is, you can change jobs whenever you feel like it. So you’re not locked into playing one job forever!

Keep in mind you can level every class/job on your one character. So don't worry about picking the right class off the bat, stop by the class trainers and try them all. The first class does determine which of the 3 main city you start in, Paladin job is the gladiator class which starts in Ul'dah.

You should watch the final moments of 1.0 (any video) some time later. When you know the characters from playing 2.0 content, when you learn what was happening right before the Calamity (mobs attacking the cities, the ambient roar throughout the map, players launching fireworks minutes before the shutdown, etc.), this trailer, being played inside the game right after the shutdown, hits so much different. I wasn't there to experience it live, but it hooked me up so hard on FF14, though I never played neither MMOs nor Final Fantasy games.

The players were teleported out of the 1.0 world and into the 2.0 world. Also, if you want to know what happened after the fade-to-white, and why the world still exists, play through the Coils of Bahamut raid series that are unlocked after you clear the main story for 2.0. Asmongold played through them a few days ago, and he was blown away by the story and fights. (He went in minimum item level and no echo, basically how players would have fought it back in the day. That earned him some mayor brownie points from the FFXIV community, and probably a lot of new subs.)

To elaborate upon what you saw in the first half of the trailer: That was the seventh umbral calamity, i.e. the end of 1.0. The red planet in the sky was Eorzea´s moon dalamud, which acted as a prison for bahamut that he then freed himself from, followed by the destruction of Eorzea. That elderly Elezen was named Lousoix Levellieur, grandfather of Alisaie and Alphinaud Levellieur. He died at cartenau summoning the twelve gods of Eorzea in order to contain bahamut, but to no avail. As a last resort he decided to teleport the main protagonist the warrior of light along with his following five years into the future in order to save them. Hope this helps! ^^

3:40 The very smol one there is of a race called the Lalafell. First rule of Lalafell: *They're fucking adorable.* Edit: Here's some more info. The race you choose to play as has absolutely NO bearing on your class/job choices or your stats or anything like that, whatsoever. A pint-sized Lalafell tank can deal just as much damage as a beefy, towering Roegadyn tank. Hyur are basically humans, Elezen are basically elves, Miqo'te are for when you wanna be a catgirl/catboy and go nya, Roegadyn are STRONK, towering pirate people and are very expressive, and the Lalafell are pint-sized and, again, *fucking adorable.* There's also REALLY big n' beefy lion people, the Hrothgar (females are really rare in-world, but they're supposedly planning to add playable female Hrothgar sometime after Endwalker comes out), and funny bunny people, the Viera. (Currently only female Viera are playable, but Endwalker will add playable male Viera.) The community is nearly toxicity-free, like... people have been known to just randomly initiate trades with new players (nicknamed "sprouts" because of the symbol next to their usernames) to give them stuff. You can do ALL the classes/jobs/etc., on one character. It's wonderful. That being said, you can create up to 8 separate characters if you so choose. The classes fall under four main classifications: Disciple of War, Disciple of Magic, Disciple of the Hand, and Disciple of the Land. Disciples of War and Magic are more geared towards battle and the story questline, while Disciples of the Hand and the Land are about crafting and makin dem MONEYSSSSSSSSS Disciple of War classes are the four tanks, Gladiator, Marauder, Dark Knight, and Gunbreaker, the four Melee DPS classes, Pugilist, Rogue, Lancer, and Samurai, and the three Physical Ranged DPS classes, Archer, Machinist, and Dancer. The less numerous but still great Disciple of Magic classes are the Healers, Conjurer, Scholar, and Astrologian, and the four Magical Ranged DPS classes, Thaumaturge, Arcanist, Red Mage, and Blue Mage. Btw, quite a few of those classes EVOLVE(/specialize) once they hit level 30. Gladiators become Paladins, Marauders become Warriors, Pugilists become Monks, Rogues become *NINJAAAAAAAA,* Archers become Bards, Conjurers become White Mages, Arcanists become Scholars, and Thaumaturges become Black Mages. Dark Knight, Gunbreaker, Samurai, Machinist, Dancer, Red Mage, and Blue Mage were all added in expansions. Meanwhile, on the crafting side, we've got the Disciples of the Hand, Carpenters, Blacksmiths, Armorers, Goldsmiths, Leatherworkers, Weavers, Alchemists, and Culinarians, and the Disciples of the Land, Miners, Botanists, and Fishers. You can become a pint-sized edgy, brooding wielder of the biggest damn sword you've ever seen... who also enjoys cooking and gardening.

Paladin exists in FF14. It's a tank job that does have protective and healing capabilities. Every single job does a specific thing. Blue jobs are tanks, Green jobs are healers and Red jobs are DPS. So paladin would be a blue job. The choice for your job isn't as significant in this compared to other MMOs because you can swap you job at any time, which means you only need 1 character (I maxed out every job on my char before I quit). That said, when you start the game you are picking a class not a job. At level 30 each class turns into a specific Job. In the case of Paladin that class is called 'Gladiator'. Any job added post ARR does not have a corresponding class and can be activated upon specific levels (with rogue/ninja being the one exception). Your starting class choice affects which city you start at and slightly changes the first act of the story, but not in a significant way really.

I highly recommend you play one of each class. Tank to learn tanking. Healer to understand balancing between healing and DPS. Positional DPS like MNK so you understand how frustrating it is to have a tank that moves too much or moves unnecessarily. Ranged DPS to get a nice view. Also, at level 15, do not miss out on The Hall of Novice to get some really good gear and the Brand New Ring for stat boosts and 30% bonus experience up to level 30 and can be used for all classes and jobs.

Welcome! In 14 by all means you can spend time to work out what class you want to run, but because you can switch to any job outside of combat, you don't need to be restricted to one job. There are the initial ones you can pick from, then there are patch/expansion jobs that are unlocked once you get to certain parts and often don't start at level 1 saving some time leveling them: Rouge/Ninja (needs level 10 or15 based on starting city) starts at level 1, Dark Knight,Astrologian,Machinist (start heavensward) starts at level 30, Samurai,Red Mage (needs level 50) starts at level 50 Dancer,Gunbreaker (needs level 60) starts at level 60 ** Reaper,Sage (Not yet released, coming out in 6.0 in November, probably needs level 70) stats at level 70. I for one started as a archer, got to level 16 and didn't want to wait on DPS queues, so switched to a healer, and mained white mage for a few years untill dancer was released and played that mostly since. There are a couple I dislike and don't play, but for me I choose to gradually level most jobs up and play them to various degrees. Watching videos on classes probably doesn't do a lot of them justice, it is probably best to just try each one out a little and get a feel for them yourself. There are 'deep dungeons' that let you try a class out at level 50 or 60 without needing to level them that far (to get a proper feel for the job) but that's a totally separate topic I won't comment too much on.

Most veteran max up all jobs at the end so it doesn’t really matter which one you choose in the beginning. Currently I am levelling all 4 tanks (you get dark knight and gun breaker later on) at the same time since those are the ones I haven’t gotten into 80 yet. It can be slow but steady and I enjoy them all. Tank has one of the fastest dungeons queues so I just spam daily roulettes. Another benefit to level same type of jobs, they share gears. For all four tanks, except weapons, they use the same gears so you can always keep only 1 set of recommended gears while leveling, saving your bag spaces.

Oh uh, just in case you want to know what happened with bahamut there, once you get the MSQ for 2.0 done and the credits roll, you unlock access to the raid content, and the raids for ARR were all about Bahamut. They're a bit considerably hard than most of the later "Normal Mode" raids, to the point where you might as well consider them as proto savage tier difficulty, but the story is great. I highly recommend doing just about every single blue quest (Blue quest icons indicates it unlocks something. But unfortunately there's a few unlockable things that don't get marked, but they're mostly things like crafting quests and the like)

The way SquareEnix handled the utter *disaster* that was 1.0 is one of the reasons why I respect and trust the company as much as I do, and it's why I'm such a loyal part of their fan-base. When they screw up, they own up to it. When they receive feedback, positive or negative, from their fans, they listen. They actually *care* what their fan-base has to say, and they take any suggestions and recommendations offered by their fans into consideration so that the game can just become better and better and more enjoyable for everyone. And on top of it all, FF XIV's player community is incredibly friendly and helpful. Out of every MMO I've ever played, only *one* MMO (and it was a *free-to-play* MMO to boot!) has had a nicer and friendlier player community than FF XIV's....and that MMO's official servers shut down back in 2016, that being *Shin Megami Tensei: IMAGINE Online* (there is a fan-run server however called Re:IMAGINE, and it's 100% free to play, you literally couldn't throw money at Re:IMAGINE if you *wanted* to, and for a fan-run server, the quality is amazing....yes, the graphics are dated, but it's an MMO that originally released way back in 2007!).

Welcome to Eorzea, my friend. There are no "wrong" classes, just ones that might feel better than others. Fortunately, you can try them all out on one toon. That's not only an option, but encouraged and rewarded. Be patient with ARR as it has parts that can drag, but overall, it's a love-song to FF players, new and old. You mentioned IX and Tactics, so I think you're in for a treat :) Please look forward to it!

Im sure others have already said this, but that cinimatic, up to the 7:03 mark, is the "last" thing us 1.0 players saw befor getting kicked from the servers and seeing a message from the devs saying "we will be back" when 1.0 was shut down. That video, and the song "Answers" will forevermore ALWAYS give me chills and feels. Everything 'after' the 7:03 mark was added as the "oppening" of FFXIV 2.0, Also known as "A Realm Reborn", when the devs kept their promis and re-launched the game after having given it a massive rework. Ps. Welcome home to Eorzea (when you start playing) ❤

Idk if he noticed, but I love the little touch they did, giving Derplander the Legacy Chocobo (for those unaware it was only given to 1.0 characters who were subbed during the 1.x disaster for x amount of days). Overall I highly suggest for Chitor to look into 1.x story & also its dev history a bit (shameless promo for Speaker's Network's Fall & Rise series). I think aside from the game just being a gem, many of us knowing the history just appreciate it and our hardworking devs so much more as well.

@@masha8770Not sure if i have the special chocobo or not, but i do have the "i had a moon dropped on my head, then kicked by a grumpy dragon" tattoo on my characters back, and my 1.0 characters name in the credits. Sadly didnt progress the msq of 1.0 enough to get the special cutsceenes :(

There's already some good things. I'll point to a few more. Zepla and Mr. Happy for new player guides (Zeps is more topical, where Happy is a bit more indepth). Larry as people mentioned for a quick class rundown. Then when it comes to UI questions Zepla and Happy have guides on those as well.

Start with any class, very early on you can switch classes/jobs. You can level everything in one character.

Two things to add, first about the concepts of alts. You don't really need alts in FFXIV, your character can max out every single class, both combat and crafting/gathering sides, so you don't need alts to try out other classes, the only things you would need alts for is to have a different race, which is purely aesthetic, or to play the very early parts of the main quest, I think its like 5 quests that are different depending on which city-state you start in. The second is that the free trial is unlimited time to the end of the first major expansion, Heavensward, there are some things that you can't do while in trial mode, so it plays more like a standard RPG than it would for a subscription account, note that you can't switch between trial and paying, once you start a proper account that's it.

Bit late but about the classes or jobs as ff14 calls them. when you create a character you can choose out of a few. doesnt matter which one you choose you can unlock the others later. i recomend looking at a video by laryzaur called "basically what job to play" it showcases all the jobs pretty well. One thing to think about though is that tank and healer jobs can only be played as tanks or healer respectively. so be mindful of that when you stick with a job at the start. at first the only tanks are gladiator and marauder, the only healers at first are conjurer (and a split off from arcanist at lvl 30). Everything else + arcanist is dps at the start.

In the cinematic what happens is, louisoix understanding the fight was unwinnable, used the last of his strength to send the warriors of light (i.e. the players) five years in to the future where a realm reborns story starts so that they can fight a weakened bahamut. The problem being, they were removed from history so no one remembers who the warriors of light are, only that they existed in the first place

I never played the original FF14, and I didn’t even play ARR until Stormblood was already out. First time I saw this scene was back when I still wasn’t sure if I’d stick with the game. Needless to say this cutscene sold me. My god it is one of the best scenes I have ever seen from a game.

you can literally pick whatever job you want. try them out, see if they fit and find one that works for you. you don't get locked into a job like with other mmos so you can play all of them on one character

jobs to pick if you care about; Enhances the STORY pick Lancer > Dragoon. Fun in low level dungeons Gladiator or Marauder (Paladin/Warrior) Fun at Mid/High Level And DPS job. (Pugilist, Thaumaturge, Arcanist, Lancer, Rogue, Archer) Fast gameplay at low levels Pugilist The most challenge in the main story solo fights (Game is SUPER easy by default) Thaumaturge (and non healing, non bulky job. otherwise tanks can just AFK auto attack, or healers can just spam heal themselves) and now for the complete opposite of whats said above; Worst for the Story None really, EXCEPT it looking odd in cutscenes if you try to intimidate an opponent by opening a book, or hold up a twig. (the healers/casters) Boring in low level dungeons Lancer and Thaumaturge. Both are very slow, and dont do much at low levels. Boring at Mid/High levels Tanks/Healers. Mostly designed to be extra simple to encourage more ppl to play them. (if you want a simple job, pick these. There are some DPS that are on the simple side, but you cant start as them) Slow gameplay at low levels All casters, and Lancer. Easiest to solo the story as Tanks, then Healers, then non caster DPS

This trailer ties the failed version of 1.0 of ffxiv to a ffxiv a realm reborn. 1.0 had a LOT of issues. They took time and effort to try to fix it but it was unsalvagable. They had yoshi p and crew try to fix, heard there was crazy stuff near the end of its cycle, spawning crazy monsters, the moon slowly comming down. People who were logged in at the end of 1.0 were treated to this trailer as servers were shut down. Theres a 3 part documentary on youtube of ffxiv and how it started. They had alot of work thrown on to them in such a small time frame. Its crazy. Enjoy the game! Its a blast to get thru for sure!

Larryzaur has a few good guides without spoilers that you could use. But you can be all of them on one character, so no need to worry too much about which one you start as. Bonus fun fact: Behemoth is in Monster Hunter World due to a collaboration event with FFXIV. And guess which beastie from Monster Hunter is in FFXIV. That particular quest is only available after you've beaten Stormblood though, but it's worth the wait.

You don't need a guide in order to pick a job, you can freely switch between any and all of them (outside of combat and dungeons) once you complete the quest to unlock it.
