I feel FFXIV's greatest issue with "satisfaction" in terms of dealing damage, is their number display. The "floating text" versus the vast majority of RPG games "pop-up" style makes the "feeling" of dealing damage less impactful. All numbers just "float" up, as if they are "free and happy" instead of "jagged/pop-up" and properly representing "impact" upon the enemy. How can the player feel the impact of their damage, when the damage numbers themselves are not experiencing any "impact" in their display.
If direct or crit hit, the numbers changes... dh makes them bigger, crit adds an ! And a crit dh makes them bigger and adds another !. I feel like if we add too much shakeyness if will lose its flavour... too much sugar isn't sweet, it's disguisting. Keep it simple, keep it clean. And make the big special attacks special
Lets not pretend like "!" does anything to improve sensory feedback. Everyone that i ever raided with never noticed direct hits unless the number is exceptional. I do however agree that its possible to add too much feedback and i can become overwhelming. It obviously needs testing first. Plus not every job gets the same treatment as i talked in the video. I talk about this because the combat overall (although its good) is very static.
@@inuxys why do we need to see if it's dh or crit or whatever? Does it really change anything? One change that I think would be useful is to change colours of enemy attack numbers... if its physical or magical damage. Yeah, sometimes you can tell by the debuff they are giving you and most raid wide aoes are magical but still. Would be a nice qol change c:
@@xamxammaxmaxmaxxam Agreed. As a dark knight im so sick of asking people around me "it is magic damage or physical?" so i can use dark mind to mitigate it. Maybe u can look it up in the log but there should be an easier way.
