For the record, we had stories like this in older FF games and rpgs back when we had to read the text and we still can end up emotional. Voice Acting does not equal Feels, its just a simple luxury.
The biggest takeaway from this heartfelt quest was that even outside our star, there are still those that hope. Etheirys is not alone in forging ahead.
Btw this is totally missable but the robotic frame Sir used to galavant around in Endwalker to mope around is Omega's original body. Omega mentioned that their original name is M-017 and if you go back to the cutscenes with the disguised Sir, he is introduced as M-017.
My theory is that the message was the song the meteion sent out at the end. She said she would send out a song of hope into the universe, and I believe that is the message we just translated.
what drive me to rise in the morning is the very sorrow which once cripple me. - Nashvan - when this dude done with his dialogue, i cry a river... cuz how true it is, because my wife is passed away last year.. :( and the final message, make me smile a little, another reason for me not to give up my life
For me Omega's penultimate conclusion, rings the most true, paraphrasing, "The heart is not some force you tap into, but is a sense that shows you what reality is". Because ultimately truth is not singular, it is the result of how we feel when presented with the cold facts of the world. Logic is important, it can help shape truth, but it will also at times limit our understanding, because even omega can wrong. Even the ancients gods of their realm, who knew what dynamis was failed to stop the final days, and their logical solution was genocide. The forum, the brightest souls from across the star, democratically elected, and meritocratically ruled, believed the logical solution was to run. Pressed with all the facts, all the evidence they could find, the meteons came to the logical conclusion that nothing matters, and we'd be better off dead. With a little bit of hope, and the will to push past despair, we as the warrior of light prove them all wrong, not by being illogical, but by seeing those cold facts in a different light. We can overcome our nature, we can learn, and work the problem, until we find a solution that works. We can sacrifice comfort to save lives, we can play long odds by leveraging our advantages, and in the end, seeing the barren wastelands of the universe, and confronted with the fact that it will all end we can say, "But it hasn't ended yet, and if eventually it must, then every second of it will have been worthwhile." The iron works, Biggs, Wedge, Cid, Nero, and the others embody this philosophy. Any time one falls to despair, one of the others will tell them to snap out of it, and remind them there's work to do.
@@blugill2273 There are a few well-known spots where you might be able to spot them. 1. Coerthas in Behemoth's Dominion by the cliff 2. The Sea of Clouds near the Ok' Zundu aetheryte 3. Somewhere in the Gold Saucer It's been a while, so I do not remember much more than these three. Their appearances are not server-side based, so if one player spots them there, then another player may not spot them there.
"Close in the Distance" started playing... my eyes immediately started welling up, then the text comes up... EMOTIONAL DAMAGE. That's basically the subtitle for Endwalker, at this point... "Emotional Damage: The Game."
The last part when the message is revealed and, despite it being a simple message, it carrying such a weight after all the events made me legit tear up and my heart sink in. The scene of them looking at the sky and Omega ranting on his new objective is just so masterfully done (as the last scene of the Omega raids itself of Alpha and Omega exploring Eorzea). It's incredible how much they manage to make me care about these characters.
And again: incredible that despite the engine is old the camera work, the animations and motions of the characters and the lines are so high quality that they make you forget the PS3-PS4 graphics.
That final message we received as we sailed the sea of stars. We are not alone there are others out there still who gaze out into the night and wonder.
I actually had to stop for a couple minutes at the Garlemald part because I was thinking back to all the horrors we'd seen there. The quest line with the sisters hit me really hard when I did it, and being reminded of it was not easy.
The bit with the sisters also hit me pretty hard. I was enjoying a drink while I was doing the questline; soon as Alpha ran over to them, I immensely appreciated him for the gesture. Raised my RL glass to the sisters, and gave a /kneel of respect for them.
Omega: Beyond The Rift is a pseudo-successor to a questline from Heavensward that came out in patch 3.3. It starts with "The Paths We Walk" in Ishgard, outside of House Fortemps and I highly recommend it.
Oh my, I was clearing all the HW quests during a quiet period and tripped over that one unknowing, and what an absolutely beautiful tribute to our journey. It was so good!
There’s a bunch of split quests for SB that mostly involve the refugees in ul’dah and then the doman enclave restoration ShB has the role quest finale and mom cat’s goodbye to Minfilia (and then the void quests in 5.4)
My absolute favourite part of this quest had to be when the WoL is recounting their experiences with Venat, Emet and Hermes to the Watcher. The WoL's expression just seemed to convey so many emotions. Joy, nostalgia, sadness...it was so nice to see that our WoL, as a character separate from the dialogue options we choose, was genuinely affected by these characters in such a profound way. Maybe I'm reading too much into it like that, but my WoL's reaction here definitely reflected how I personally felt about the Elpis gang
this is one of the best if not best side quest of XIV ... the same goes for "The Paths We Walk" from Hevensward ... the reexamining of the journey and your choices ... Pan Galactic Basic is basically like a common language you have in many fantasy ... so its not specifically the language of omicrons ... its made so that you dont know where the message comes from so you can interpret it as you want, it could have been a final sigh of hope form one of the Omicron, alternatively it came from an civilization that is out there, that yet still hopes, or at least had someone with hope at the time of the message being sent ...
I think you misunderstood ONE thing: it is not in Omicron language. it is in a language the Omicron can understand because they conquered a few worlds that spoke it.
I interpreted it the same way Bellular did. Because the language was called basic something, I related it to the BASIC programming language and assumed it was an Omicron language that they spread through conquest.
@@AngryTenko no, in sci-fi a common language is generally referred to as Basic much like in fantasy the common language is generally referred to as Common.
@@Harkmagic considering that the Omicrons had conquered and wiped a huge amount of worlds, it's not unlikely that they enforced their own language as a common dialect. I think this interpretation is more interesting, anyway.
I was diagnosed with depression when I was 8. I wrote my first suicide note at 7. I saw therapists throughout my entire teenage years... took every antidepressant in the book. With that out of the way... Endwalker has been therapeutic for me. I don't know how else to phrase it other than that. It was a genuine experience, and if the writer didn't go through depression, I'd be flabbergasted at their understanding of it. My static calls Endsinger "the big sad" because so many of us have gone through that hell. Fighting Zenos at the end felt like life going back to normal. It was... perfect and this quest added so much to it.
That message from Sir definitely made me cry. And still makes me cry every time I think about it. Because it's so relatable to my own life. When I have a bad day, I now think about that message, and smile with a tear in my eye. :')
I just finished this last night. I was genuinely surprised when the game asked me if I thought Venat, Hermes, or Emet-Selch, were justified in their actions, or not. I spent nearly 15 minutes pondering the question.
Same not just seeing their perspectives but their motivations and actions and the reason behind each just made it feel like those weren't choices they wanted to make but had to make for the sake of everyone else and they came to different conclusions as the best course of action
That quest was so good and got me thinking of man this all started with one guy and his actions of not fitting in to search for the meaning of it. Then right at the end I cried once I saw that reward from completion. It just hit all at once and how I can relate to it.
Having a contiunation for Alpha/Omega is great. I wondered when we'd get to hang out with best birb again. I'm hoping for a side quest with the Ultima Thule dragons and Hraesvelgr later. Anything we can do for the dragon souls to help them find hope.
I'm really excited after this questline because of what it could lead to for the new trial series. I also really want to see how Omega can help advance the G-Warrior! I'm SO glad we have Omega back, and I plan to treasure them forever.
I am still pretty confident there will be a time-jump soon -- probably for next expansion. Tataru's quest is giving us insight into how the people of Eorzea have been changed following the End of Days and what they intend to do forward. Same thing with this Omega quest we see the effects of the End of Days but this time on the newer areas (Garlemald, the Moon, and Thavnair). Both quests emphasize that this is the first step on a very long journey and I think we will lay that groundwork through the rest of this expansion just to have a time-jump where we can see the results of that journey (Aetherys being united by Tataru's effort, Garlemald reborn into something new, the moon populated etc) and this will refresh the world and its political balance for us without having to change a ton of it physically.
Im still on heavensward free trial. Im a heroin addict so i really doubt im going to be able to play past it...but it literally makes me tear up that my favorite franchise is receiving so much praise. Ff meant so much to me growing up. At least i know i have a great story ahead of myself if i can get it together....
The thing that hit home for me is when Omega asked me if any of the Ancients actions were justified and I had to legit pause and think long and hard about that. I ultimately chose that in their own ways, they were justified in their actions.
I was really surprised how good it was. I went into it thinking I'll just do this before I do the Tribe quest, then I finished and had to take a break. Required some introspection.
ICYMI in the little dialogue, Omega is the upgraded chassis of M-017; the curious Omicronian we meet (in concept, as a shade of course) in Ultima Thule! Also, M17 is the designation of the Omega Nebula in our galaxy.
It really is a beautiful capstone to the themes of Endwalker. I agree with you and I've said it before elsewhere: Shadowbringers is the better-written story, but the themes and emotions of Endwalker affected me like nothing else. It shone a light on a dark place inside me and I'm grateful for it. I find the quest amusing too because so many parts feel like the writing team engaging with fan discussions. Who was right and who was wrong? Why did X character do Y if it didn't make sense? The Watcher's question not only made me consider my own answer, but made me think of people I know who had spent thousands of words on defending Hermes or condemning Venat or teasing apart every last detail in an effort to find the seed of truth behind their feelings on this tale.
Honestly, the idea of “false escapism” as you described it is a fascinating one. If you’ve ever played Spiritfarer, it does the same sort of thing where it gives you an experience that is fun and very much a video game that you play for entertainment, but it also spends a lot of its narrative just analyzing what it means to live and hitting such a powerful emotional note that rings true even outside of the fact that it’s a piece of fiction. Some writers like to be cold and grim for the sake of realism, but other writers know that reality has joy and love and hope as well, that it keeps us going in times of strife or mourning, and exploring that feels so very good, even when it makes you sob.
Something I hadn’t noticed until this questline. The Final Days was caused by all the Dynamis being blasted towards Eitherys. The only way we could have won was to fight fire with fire, use our own willpower to carry on against the darkness
Michael:.. "the struggle that is at the heart of all of our existence, that might be a bit of a grand to say BUT F THAT I ACTUALLY BELIEVEIT" . Nah dude you NAILED IT!!!
@7:34 While Star Trek: Generations is probably regarded among the weaker films, Data fiddling with the emotion chip was a highlight at multiple points. Especially the end, where he expresses a very Omega-like sentiment, thinking the emotion chip must be malfunctioning because he's been brought to crying by finding his cat safe and sound. It's illogical to respond with a sad response to a happy event, after all.
The 6.15 patch is a HUGE W! And got the utmost faith in you all for all your endeavors. You guys do such a good job with your content and can't wait to see what's in store. I will def try out the beta also!
After this short story of revisit to Omega, I actually do hope somewhere in the future that Omega can evolve on their own to the point they can regain the understanding of heart that the Omnicrons once lost
I speculate that at some point, perhaps near the ending of xiv when we Will fight the last big baddie everyone like Ryne, Gaia, Omega and maybe some People from other reflections that we'll meet in the future Will come to help us in some way avengers style
spoiler alert according to short story "Tales from the Shadows: A World Forsaken" in the alternate timeline in which 8th Umbral Calamity came to pass, Omega give these words: I think this must be what mortals call “hope.” It is...beautiful.
Legion was my favourite character in Mass Effect 2 because of these same reasons you explained. Those are really good to pick apart the human condition and then put it back together.
If you play Dissidia Duodecim you will find out in the Reports that the nation that Lufenia was warring with had the Omega weapon and that they were able to send it into the Rift. So Ive not played FFXIV but this makes me wonder if the Squarenix teams have a shared lore that they work around for each game to connect each FF, the way Dissidia and Stranger of Paradise have now done.
It’s not in the language of the omicron, it’s just a language omega learned because it learns everything it can. I wonder what civilization sent that message.
Its always warming my heart to see, that people that was frustrated with all things that happened in Wow, so happily smiling while talking about FFXIV. This game is really therapy, balsam to tired gamers souls. 😊
I saw that quest log Bellular, how have you still not done the 2 extra Endwalker dungeons that came out in 6.0? One of those is even relevant to the Omicrons and the Dragons.
Long time FFXIV player here, hadn't seen your content before until you started covering XIV, just wana say thanks for the content, thoroughly enjoy the videos
Souls, Heart ,Feeling is very deep, hard to form words, hard to describe, still... we know it's in there, in depts of our mind. Welp, just like Dark Matter, we know it's there, we know it cause, we know outcome... but haven't found it yet.
I'm so happy you still play this game. I still really enjoy it. I don't really have many people I run with and I've only raided a few times but I get immersed in the world.
What they actually did in these quests is explain to normal people what fuzzy logic is. Its basically the backbone of AI and machine learning, and to explain it easy, in normal programing you have 1 and 0, its either this or that. in machine learning its not black and white, but more like shades of gray, and depending of if its more black or more white the machine learns, and next time that it tests that, it adjusts the parameters and so on. it was pretty nicely done.
Fascinating. I don't play MMRPGs, damn, I rarely even play online other than a bit of Remnant or D3 in coop or a bit of BF1 every now and then and yet... I am finding myself watching FFXIV videos time and again. And after what I have seen from this game, but also from it's community, I'd say that _if_ I would ever decide to actually play an online game like this, then FFXIV would not only be very high on the list of candidates, but actually in a pole position. Seriously, I am under the impression that this is one of the rare cases where the 'community' is actually that, a community, and that this is highly encouraged and cultivated by the people behind this game. Damn, what is keeping me from giving this a try, no matter what, are the monthly fee and, unfortunately, the setting itself. Or maybe that is the wrong word, it's just that 'that japanese art style' and talking animals, silly over the top hairdoes and, from my perspective, silly things like people with birds living in their hair (I am aware that is another FF game, I just mention it to get my point across) are _so_ not my cup of tea.
I chose Venat for the dialogue options. All of them had their reasons, and literally suffred millenia of unutterable suffering, but when you think about it... Emet-Selch acted out of nostalgia, longing days and people gone for good. Hermes acted out of guilt, remorse about all the creations he had forsaken in Elpis. Venat? She whished to see mankind find its own way, and be able to ultimately face despair itseld and come out of top. She acted out of love for mankind.
Since you were wondering, if you're hrothgar omega says that you are an expert on fluffiness, and apparently if you're viera it comments your fluffy ears instead of your miqo tail 😄
The role quests are interesting, and tbh if you are really interested in the lore of FFXIV (and want to get the most out of endwalker), I'm finding nods in EW to all of the stuff in the New Game+ catalogue of stuff.
I was struck by the profoundness of the current Valenteone's quest. Going in there expecting something cute for a cute reward. Somehow 14 finds these spots of truth, and manages to deliver them with uniquely positive seriousness.
0:12 "it's been a while" is good! Glad you're having fun with other games but still coming back in to check with FF14. You've got to experience new things once in a while
One of my favorite things about WoW fans discovering FF14 is their slow transformation into mildly annoying FF14 fans. You have to do this quest! But do this raid first! Then do this dungeon, it’s level 80 but it’s related, I promise! Then do this new level 90 quest and THEN we can talk! Even Preach has started doing reactions to other people’s reactions to the MSQ.
I kinda part hope that omega revives a small part of the omicrons as a force of good. To set out and nurture what worlds are being reborn and such. As well as it could end up as a key link to getting you to new worlds.
If omega sent out its consciousness into each one and had them interact with life and then had them compare stories with drastically different events for each while the mini omega tried to understand would be such a fun side story since they look human they can integrate with everyone in the world and learn first hand how everyone lives grows and struggles
true (everything) but I'm also too busy being excited about Ameliance glamour possibilities, i literally might buy the lyse dress to see it on her lmao
I agree. It does come through on camera. I prefer these fresh reactions to the scripted explanations. I do also love the scripted explanations. They are wonderful and thorough but if I had to choose, I would choose these reactions.
Personally I chose the last option of None were worthy. In hindsight EVERYONE was guilty to a certain extent and EVERYONE was worthy enough to be saved if at all possible. When you look back into it all you realize just how, "by the skin of your teeth," everything went as it unfolded, right to the beginning of the game. The only difference was those other societies surrendered themselves to despair. It reminds me of a speech Lando Calrissian said in the Babylon 5 movie. "The humans I think knew that they were doomed, but when another race would surrender to despair the humans fought back with even greater strength. They made the Minbari fight for EVERY inch of space, in my life I had never seen anything like it. They would weep, they would pray, they would say goodbye to their loved ones and then throw themselves without fear or hesitation into the very face of death itself, NEVER surrendering. No one who saw them fighting against the inevitable couldn't help but be moved to tears by their courage, their stubborn nobility. When they ran out of ships they used guns, when the ran out of guns they used knives and bare hands they were magnificent. My only hope when it is my time that I may die with HALF as much dignity as I saw in their eyes before the end. They did this for TWO YEARS, they never ran out of courage but in the end they ran out of time." That is what separated us from those other planets, stubborn nobility, raging against insurmountable odds knowing full well its a losing battle. You can look back into history on heroic last stands going back thousands of years with the same aspects. Even in the face of death, we DO NOT go quietly. We fight until our knuckles bleed. Surrender is NEVER an option in our eyes.
more likely to have the ending with omega taking on the body of a large mammet, like the ones allag made, that is player character sized and looks like either the M or F version from O12. Then either joining the ironworks as a permanent side character like nero, or the questline becoming mandatory for the MSQ in the future with it joining a future iteration of the scions
