This story is teaching me one thing. Greek mythology is centuries/millenia old spoilers for Endwalker's raids. I'm gonna have to not pay attention to any Greek myths before it spoils 6.4. Also, one thing I like is that how this story is redeeming Lahabrea. Not in the moral sense, but in the sense of ARR jumping the gun on making the Ascians cartoon villains until Emet-Selch came along, so them putting the raid series in the past of Elpis gives them the wiggle room they need to actually retroactively flesh him out. Plus, it makes for some hilarious WoL contemplation to make them go "ugh, I guess I have to *understand* the guy that possessed Thancred years ago..."

But it's nice they're retroactively expanding on them now, yeah. Now will it fit in with the "end" result...? Ehhh... prooobably not, or at least not much, given they're so.. *cheesy,* but eh. Eric actually tells you why Lahabrea's mask is on his head when he's transformed if you talk to him I think after the Hephaistos battle, he says "As you may have noticed during our battle, Lahabrea's mask crowns me when I've transformed. It is said that we manifest in a way that reflects our innermost selves. I had thought the mask a symbol of the chains that bound my heart, but recent events have cause me to reconsider that assumption...."

Another fun fact, the P8S theme "White Stone Black" is a reference to the Heart of Sabik, which is known as "Kuro Seiseki Sabiku" in Japanese, literally "Black Holy Stone Sabik". "Holy Stone" of course refers to White Auracite, so it's interesting that all this time we have had an example of *Black* Auracite. And what does all of this mean..?! I have no earthly idea but the Heart of Sabik contains the spell Ultima, this we know for a fact, and in FF2, Ultima was specifically created to destroy and seal away Castle Pandaemonium. And do I even dare bring High Seraph Ultima into this, who is canonically some kind of extradimensional alien in FFXIV...? No. Let's not. Like the title says, this is out of control already.

The light blue, unmarked crystal that started this whole thing is the key. It was yearning to find its other half, and was pointing towards Azys Lla. The Lahabrea crystal found in Amourot was Sky Blue. Hephaistos's crystal was Red. This is why my personal theory is that the unmarked crystal is Lahabrea, and is seeking its other half in Ascalon: Hephaistos. I think the reason Lahabrea was so psychotic in ARR was simple: Emet-Selch saved the wrong Lahabrea. Also, Asphodelos is basically Purgatory, while Abyssos is basically Hell. If we follow the Divine Comedy method, the third wing will probably be called Elysium/Elysios. Edit: Remember, Elysium is the realm of heroes, and demigods.

Tbh it could easy be Lahabrea gets shundered (or killed due to technically being shundered already) Elidibus and Emet somehow avoid the shundering, yet they find a soul trapped in crystal, the other half of Lahabreas soul untouched by the shundering (A method to survive the shundering ironically). Needing all the help they can get and Elidibus knowing this half of Lahabrea would need the world to be restored to realize his goals, logically they would free him.

One thing worth mentioning about that crystal that came from the sea. It appeared while they were observing the Aetherial Sea, as if propelled by something and its aether is unusually dense. The group in Sharlayan found that crystal, but their research was halted for years due to the prep for the Final Days. The research only continued after we solved that crisis. So if that crystal was trying to warn us about something in our current timeline, at the time it was sent to us... ... We got the message *years late*.

"Throw wide open the gates". That comes to mind with Hydaelyn's death. All that was held back on the other side was released into the world, much as opening Pandora's box, which incidentally was a heavy theme of FFVI. Greek myth is important to forecasting what may come next in the Raid series. Equally important is knowing Victorian Gothic literature: namely Frankenstein, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and Dracula. Frankenstein, as well known, discovered the Spark of Life (one of the attacks in P7), and created a living being but was so disgusted by his creation he rejected it. His creation was so profoundly affected by this rejection, he resolved to destroy both Frankenstein's life and reputation, which oddly enough happens to Lahabrea after P7 is completed. His reputation is ruined. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was about a man who discovered how to transform himself into another man to "indulge his vices". Was Lahabrea really so disgusted with Athena's plan as he made himself out to be? Perhaps because of his fascination with creating Phoenix, Athena purposely sought him out as she felt he may have been aligned with her interest in understanding the Spark of Life. He may have been more involved than he lets on. Incidentally, one of the themes of Dracula was that the heroes needed to have "all of the knowledge" and "all of the help" they could get. They needed the knowledge of the past and the present. Now that the Raid series straddles both past and present, this is probably not a coincidental theme. Another theme was memories may not be entirely reliable. "Good" Lahabrea may not have reliable memories of what actually occurred. Edit: Additionally, I forgot an important theme through all three. Hubris.

Side note about Agdistis that isn't obvious (at least not to me) until you consider it: The tree that she was fused with as part of becoming a hemitheos was probably called Attis. I think Pandemonium is going to tie into the MSQ more than people expect. The proto ascian prime stuff and merging researchers with concepts while we are hitting a story point of warriors of light on the 13th merging with crystallised primals, which are just creation magics, feels too similar. It could just be intended so the end of Pandemonium hits the same time as some fight against golbez/the 13th shard of zodiark but they could be seeding a big future plotline maybe with whats going on in meracydia after azdaja vanished or something.

You mentioned near the end that the Lahabrea we fought is probably a combination of both of the sides of Hephaistos, which I agree with. But you mention that it could be possible that they died during the sundering and that's how they were reconnected, but wasn't there something in Shadowbringers that explicitly stated that the surviving Convocation members with the red masks (Elidibus, Emet-Selch, and Lahabrea) all escaped the sundering somehow? As a few others have noted (and maybe you didn't mean to phrase it that way/misspoke), Lahabrea being one of the Unsundered means Emet-Selch (Hades) and/or Elidibus (Themis) never would have needed to "Ascend" Lahabrea after the Sundering like the other sundered Convocation members, Lahabrea himself would have been one of the ones doing the ascensions to the other sundered shards. Also another thing to note is that the blank blue crystal is the same/similar color as Lahabrea's convocation crystal, the one the WoL finds in 5.3 in the phantom Amaurot (not the one Hephaistos was sealed in) and gave to Elidibus after his defeat in the Seat of Sacrifice. Also Pandaemonium rising out of the depths of the Aetherial Sea is also probably meant to be a further reference/homage to FF2 and how Emperor Mateus (who’s soul also split into a Heaven/light and Hell/dark half after his first defeat/death) had Pandaemonium rise up out of the depths of Hell as part of the climax of FF2 (after Mateus’ dark half had conquered Hell).

I was raised in a southern baptist home (i've since recovered), and I absolutely did _not_ get Venat as Lucifer. I still don't see it, even with it called out, tbh. Venat was not cast out. Zodiark and Hydaelyn were creations of man - not the other way around. Venat did not work to regain her lost home and neither did any of the ascians reign supreme over it. If anything, the metaphor fits Emet better than any, and it's a stretch. Both sides irretrievably lost their home and nothing reigned in their place.

The portrayal of Lucifer as a morally complex villain or sympathetic anti-hero is not really uncommon in Japanese works that take influence from religious works, especially in taking a sympathetic interpretation of Paradise Lost and running with it. This goes at least as far back to the 70s with works like Devilman. Most of the common conceptions of Lucifer are extra-biblical with some questionable translations of scattered passages to make it fit (e.g. “ha-satan” or “the adversary” from Job being a role and not a proper name). I wouldn’t consider the Underworld of Greek myth to be analogous to the Christian conceptions of Hell. Christians more likely drew from myths about Tartarus.

Her long march as well gave me flashbacks of Christ walking to His death carrying His Cross, she was also enlightened to the truth of evil, in the case of Christ it is sin and the Satanic Forces which are at play to cause sin, and for Venat it is despair, Nihilism, and dynamis forces at play.

I really like the idea that Athena is the true villain behind Lahabrea. That doesn't mean Lahabrea is not at fault for his actions, but it's exactly an Ishikawa twist of nuance that you retroactively understand him more. A man so broken by lost ambition and lost family that he just gives up and will do anything to get them back. Yes it's similar to Emet-Selch, but: a.) That makes sense, why would "I want all my friends and family back" only be unique to him but also b.) We've met and gotten to know his son quite well at this point and you can understand now, with the 2nd tier cleared, that Hephaistos DOES love his son in his weird scientist way. It's also nice that we'd get a female Ancient who was more unambiguously evil in addition to all the male ones. Venat is...super incredibly complicated but I would not call her a villain. If you see the elemental wheel, the elemental sequence and alternation of aspect (Astral/Umbral). You can see that the sequence follows the outer circle starting from Wind. Calamities Elemental Aspect: Astral Wind Umbral Lightning Astral Fire Umbral Earth Astral Ice Umbral Water The reason for this sequence can be justified by taking into account the circumstance that lead up to the calamity and the nature of one of the Twelve that represents the element and aspect. For example, the first calamity was astral wind, the corresponding god of the Twelve is Llymlaen, goddess of navigation. The moogles were driven away from their home in the heavens due to a war between gods. Thus a storm of tornadoes stopped them, most likely due to Llymlaen's being angry at the ones at war making it impossible to navigate the skies safely. The second calamity, umbral lightning is Rhalgr. In an age of massive industrialization, people built so greedily and ruining the nature, causing natural disaster covering the sky in eternal darkness. Thus Rhalgr summoned a 1 yr thunderstorm, forcing people underground and resetting the balance in nature. This goes on. In the new Eorzean encyclopedia, there also exists interactions with the three remaining astral and umbral elements. These can also be interpreted where they fulfill each others weakness. (Chapter 2) Earth grounds Lightning Astral Earth / Sustainability (Nophica) protects against Astral Lightning / Unsustainability (Byregot) Water erodes Earth Astral Water / Rivers (Thaliak) protects against Astral Earth / Desolation (Nophica) Lightning boils Water Astral Lightning / Ingenuity (Byregot) protects against Astral Water / Flooding (Thaliak) (Chapter 3) Fire is exstinguished by Wind Umbral Fire / Condemned Souls (Nald'thal) is stopped by Umbral Wind / Freedom (Oschon) Ice is melted by Fire Umbral Ice / Emotional instability (Menphina) is stopped by Umbral Fire / Peace in afterlife (Nald'thal) Wind is obstructed by Ice Umbral Wind / Loneliness is stopped by Umbral Ice / Love (Menphina) I really think we will learn in Pandæmonium that the Twelve were created by the Ancients/Asciansto to govern and balance the reflections, and that Hydaelyn actually not only bound Zodiark, but the Twelve as well. Which was undone when we defeated Zodiark and Hydaelyn.
@TankHunter678
@TankHunter678 Год назад
The only problem with that is that the reason the people of eorzea worship the twelve is because they had been spotted at various points in history, in particular during events that destabilized the aether in an area which made access to the phantom realm easier to spot. I think its more likely for the Twelve to functionally be the Titans, given the heavy use of Greek Myth. That the Ancients took over stewardship of the Star from the Twelve, only this time peacefully instead of by force, who took a step back to observe how things would go.
@DefenderX
@DefenderX Год назад
@@TankHunter678 They have also used a lot of FFXII references with the Ascians, using all the names of FFXII scions of light and their bound espers as the symbol on the mask of the Ascians. There is also a connection between the zodiac sign of the scions of light in FFXII and the zodiac sign of the Convocation of Fourteen in FFXIV that is imprinted on their constellation crystals / memory crystals. The associated elements from FFXII do not however match up if attempting to match the Twelve with the Convocation members. There is definitively something there, but there doesn't exist enough information to confirm anything for certain. One theory i believe to be true is that the Twelve is connected with the convocation of fourteen, where the convocation of fourteen split their souls to make gods that may watch over the reflections until they are rejoined. But aren't the Twelve only twelve, and there are fourteen reflections. Well, we're missing Zodiark and Hydaelyn. As Elidibus and Azem was a part of the convocation. So it should have been called the Fourteen, not the Twelve. There remains lore in Elpis to be discovered, and a proper timeline of events and decisions just before, during and after the final days and the sundering. During the sundering, the three unsundered (Elidibus, Lahabrea and Emet-Selch) are believed to be unscathed, the rest of the convocation members were sundered into shards. The remaining shards were used to resurrect and recover parts of their memories of the convocation members. They are known as Ascians. But I believe that the three unsundered were actually damaged in some way, that their souls were also split, damaged or corrupted in some capacity. We already see this demonstrated from Lahabrea in Pandæmonium, where he intentionally split his soul into two shards. So Square Enix is showing us this as a possibility. That tells me that this is the direction the story is leaning towards. Also, if Hydaelyn's task was to hold Zodiark at bay. Why didn't the Twelve come earlier to help if they were not tied to Zodiark in some way? There are also small details hinting to what happened during the sundering in Omphalos, the hub. On the floor of the crystal you encounter just as you enter, you can see the symbol for each Twelve god around the crystal with a colorless shard in the middle. If you study the patterns on the stone as well, you see that from each Twelve god symbol, there are twelve arrows aligned with each symbol pointing outwards from the center to a plant. I also think that the myth of creation also contains clues to how you could connect the relationships of the Twelve with Greek mythology and maby the convocation members as well.
@Khotetsu
@Khotetsu Год назад
My running theory for the Twelve is that they're not the Convocation, but rather Venat's group that opposed the creation of Zodiark. We know from Shadowbringers that Venat assembled a group in secret to oppose the Convocation, but we know very little else about them, and it would tie up that loose end somewhat if it's revealed that they had created/become the Twelve to assist Hydaelyn in protecting the Source and the Shards. Plus, if the Ascians created the Twelve to maintain the shards, it would have to have been after Venat became Hydaelyn and sundered the world, because it wasn't until that moment that the shards came into existence. Though, they could very well have been created to help maintain the world before it was shattered, and simply be constructs of the Ancients' creation from long ago who somehow survived the sundering intact.

The whole raising up of Ascians is only for the other members of the Convocation who were sundered, or am I missing something?

Something you missed about Ascalon. it helps to say it's holding extra aether. Spoilers for Endwalker: In the Role Quests in Endwalker, for Casters (The Ishgard storyline). It's *Still there* and was used to embue a human sacrifice with a primal's power, but only the minds of the Heavens Ward. Not Thordan (who was the intended target) nor Lahabrea (Who eaten by the sword), but separate people not touching the sword, but dying near it. Could totally mean they call forth Lahabrea's memories and powers from the fragments of his soul that remain. Edit: Lahabrea was never sundered. So Hades never had to pluck his soul out of the Sea. Instead, he probably was driven to try the whole "Godhood" and "Resurrection" thing Hephaistos offered in the face of the Final Days, recombining his soul, and thus making him even more insane than before, and as insane enough to do so many horrible things, disgusting for the ancients, like transformation, rapid body possession and the like. And the raising of Shards doesn't necessarily mean the source shard, In fact Fandaniel was raised a few millennia after the world was sundered. Something tells me they didn't wait that long to remake the Convocation into the Ascian.

One might foeget that, in one tier, we went not only through abyssos but also tartarus as the deepest place in pandaemonium. Given the story bests I'd thin that the next tier won't be named after athena's ambitions (resurrectuon/godhood) but maybe, since it is now right there in Hades' domain ( he was the keeper of the aetherial sea before Hydaelin), it might be named Elysion since it could also symbolize that ultimate reward she seeks and hephaistos wanted to grasp for her. Maybe we even fight some heroic souls trapped by her or something. Definitely no creatures anymore.

My guess is that we will go to Pandaemonium, Lahabrea will be there (Hephistos) wearing white robes. And suddenly we will have a light bulb moment like, "wait, weren't you trapped in Ascalon"? Then the truth comes out. Hephistos, seeing his son master the shackles, stepped down from his position, and left Erichtonius as his successor. The whole time, Eric was the Lahabrea we knew. So we have to go rescue him so we can all face Athena.

For a bit of speculation, I think the name of the last raid series will be "Elysium." Thus far, we have Asphodelos (after the Asphodel Fields) and Abyssos, after Tartarus, often referred to as an 'abyss,' Tartarus and the Asphodel Fields are both two of three sections of the Greek underworld. Tartarus is a place of torment where the Titans were imprisoned, and where the souls of the wicked are banished to suffer eternally, while the Asphodel Fields are the home of those who lived mediocre lives. The final section of the underworld is Elysium/the Elysian Plains, reserved for the children of the gods and those who were righteous or heroic in life. I think that the whole vibe of Pandaemonium as a prison/research facility is going to be majorly out of whack now that it's ended up in the Aetherial Sea, possibly blending with the remnants of Hydaelyn's light-aspected aether to give it a more 'paradise-like' aesthetic.

I'm thinking that the reason it has appeared now in the aetherial sea is it has to do with the guy going missing in Azys Lla. The caster job quest showed it still there and if Lahabrea was able to break free or possess him, he might have brought Pandaemonium into the present. One of the things I'm most curious about is how both this raid and the MSQ are involving souls being sealed into crystals. It makes me think that if Lahabrea's dark self can get out then we might be fighting all 4 elemental archfiends in the 6.4 patch. It would match up with FF4 too, where Zeromus gave them new life and we had to fight all 4 at once.

My speculation: Pandaemonium appears in the present inside the aether There, souls are cleansed so they can reborn, but memories strong enough can stick there for a long time. That's why we saw (and got help) from Papalymo and others. Same reason why Asagi was still there, his rage made him stay there waiting for Fandaniel. With this previously showed, it's possible that Lahabrea soul and memories could still be there to appear in the last part. Another thing i'm thinking since Abyssos. Lahabrea in the present was crazy, obsessed... what if, he absorbed Hephaestus again, making the present Lahabrea we clash a "full version" of him, that's why his personality is so different.

Lahabrea/Hephaistos accepting his "dark side" to become whole would fit with the whole FFIV theme we've had going in the MSQ. Interesting read on everything. There are a ton of details I'd completely missed, and possibilities I'd never considered! I'm kind of in the camp of thinking Eric becomes our Lahabrea (given he's so riled by his passions as Eric, it makes sense he would become more of a warrior as he later know him as), but certainly not something I'd bet money on. I think it's amusing to have NO IDEA where the story is going, but that we all have faith in the writers to tell a satisfying story. Which is a direct contrast to WoW. Also, I'm struck how all three of the ongoing storylines feel so genuinely important. The Thirteenth, The Twelve, Pandaemonium -- literally each one of those storylines feel like they could be extrapolated into their own full-fledged expansions. But instead, we're dealing with all three concurrently, in standard content patches?!? That's insanely ambitious! Though I'll be honest, I'm honestly not really feeling "Zero" as a character. In fact, that whole story arc for the Thirteenth, feels like there are just WAY too many "conveniences" to the plot happening at the same time. Some amount of convenience will always be necessary, but particularly with Zero, who she is, her background, her abilities, that she was chosen as Zenos' avatar... it's the first time I've not really "bought" the story they're trying to tell. Like I said, too many "conveniences", all happening one after the other. I hope they find a way to turn it around, though.

There is something else, too, about primal-made 'weapons.' If you completed Eureka, you'll know the primal within created another primal/ weapon : Zantetsuken. It definitely points Ascalon as being similar to Zantetsuken when it didn't disappear with the primal. Another thing to keep in mind : Lahabrea did not die alone in Azys Lla. Igeyorhm (seat of enlightenment and rhetoric) was there and able to fuse with Lahabrea - we've only see Ancients with some sort of strong link doing this thus far. We've also witnessed Athena and Hephaistos fuse, if only for a moment. While she was defeated "for good" with the use of auracite and the eye of Nidhogg, we've seen the residual wills of previously defeated foes still linger in the aetherial sea (Livia, for example). We also called back Hades and Hythlodaeus from the sea with Hythlodaeus being gone far longer than Hades. If someone who sacrificed themselves to Zodiark around the time of the Final Days can still be recalled as he was to confront Meteion, it stands to reason that Athena is still very much around.
@Kanethedragon
@Kanethedragon Год назад
Bit of a correction here, Hythlodaeus wasn't actually "gone" far longer than Hades, he (his soul) was stuck in Zodiark along with the others that made the sacrifice to create Zodiark and was thus not in the Aetherial Sea until we defeated the fused Amon/Fandaniel, and so, would have effectively been about as recently "dead" as Hades and thus his soul wouldn't have been degraded as much as someone's that spent a couple years to a millennia or two inside it. That being said, the whole thing with Rhitatyn and Livia's souls still being around in there was due to their hyperfixation on grudging us requiring the sea to take longer to degrading them then reconstituting them back into the cycle, and they only sat stewing a couple years as sundered/"incomplete" souls, so it can still be plausible that an unsundered soul with a hyperfixation on their work such as Athena's could probably stew around in the pot for many millennia, especially if it's her unflinching belief that she would be best to make her preparations in the "Underworld" instead of the normal one while letting Hephaistos/Erich do stuff in the overworld as her sleeper agents, and would thusly do everything she can to stay within the Aetherial Sea as long as she possibly could. Other than that yeah, you make a good point, similar to the other conclusions people have made. There definitely could be something with that when it comes to the whole thing with the remnants of Lehabrea and Igeyorm's souls keeping Ascalon around and/or the weapon itself having similar properties that allows Zantetsuken to stick around to corrupt any hapless adventurer that grabs the weapon to becoming Odin.

@@Kanethedragon What is there to imply that the souls within Zodiark persist and aren't just fed on much like crystals used to summon the other primals? Hades we killed extremely recently and the events from ARR to Endwalker all happen within a year, according to Yoshida. From what I've understood within the game itself is that the ancient's aether is "near limitless" and the only reason Elidibus is fading so quickly is because of the Crystal Tower and how it functions. Asking because I have completely overlooked such implications and it raises so many other questions. (For example, when Zodiark was sundered and those souls do persist, then they are sundered as well, when Zodiark was defeated in our realm and the other reflections of Zodiark vanished, did those souls become whole again? Did they return to our aetherial sea? Do the other realms have an aetherial sea or is ours the only one that all souls return to?)

I believe Elidibus stated he thought it was a result of constantly changing hosts over years, but if you think about how Graha had to do the same, where there was a possibility his past self would reject the Exarchs soul and it wouldn't properly meld. If I recall Varian Wrynn had similar issues in WoW which made him have violent fits.

My favorite thing about FFXIV's story is that the writers know how to move the story forward without cheapening what's already been established. In other words, they know how to use retcon in the right way. Usually when you see the word retcon, you think of it in a negative connotation. A lot of that has to do with the fact that some writers use retcon as a lazy way to get themselves out of the corner they wrote themselves into. But FFXIV knows how to use retcon as a tool to improve upon the existing material without completely throwing what was written out the window. A good example of this is Lahabrea in particular. Emet Selch explained that Lahabrea would often hop bodies which would not only weaken him, but also drive him into further madness. They could have left us with this explanation and it would have been just fine at explaining why Lahabrea was bat-shite crazy. Instead, we are getting this raid series that paints Lahabrea in a far better light that can even further explain how and why Lahabrea was viewed so poorly by the unsundered Ascians during the ARR and HW eras. Not only that, it has the potential to describe even further the events that set Lahabrea on a path apart from the other unsundered, as well as giving more insight into why Lahabrea was so crazy in comparison to them.

They both essentially rejected their society’s way of doing things and ended up being the catalyst for the end of the world. The difference being in FF14 it lead to the creation of multiple races while in Ivalice it lead to the extinction of all the races aside from humans. The story of FF14 has to take a 90 degree turn in general now because there isn’t much of a road plan anymore. Endwalker kind of went to the extreme with exploring all the concepts of the universe. I mean we even got civilizations that evolved perfectly just to reach a point of wanting to die because they were bored.

The eye in pandemonium could be a nod to the eye of invincible, the soul stealing airship from ff9. Spoilers ahead so be warned if you don't want to know some end game stuff for a 20 odd year old game. The main antagonist and protagonist were both artificially created beings made by a hyper advanced ancient, otherworldly civilisation to be the "angels of death" for the world that much of the game takes place on. Basically their creator had himself been made by a now (basically) dead civilisation to find a way to restore their people and their world and the method they decided on was parasitizing other worlds, basically they would claim the spiritual core of a planet, syphon out the native souls and insert their own to use the planets soul cycle to allow their own people to be reborn instead of the natives. The first of these angels, the antagonist, was made with a flawed. They were born fully grown and due to this could not tap into the power of Trance, effectively an emotional power-boost which heightens a persons inherent abilities. The protagonist was made to be the antagonist's replacement, being born as a child with the aim that this may allow them to properly experience the world and to hopefully grow naturally to bypass the first angel's flaw and so be capable of trance. The antagonist did not take kindly to being to this and so cast the protagonist out into the soon to be doomed world (i assume as an infant as the protagonist has no memory of this) where they did indeed eventually learn to harness the power of trance. During the events of the game the player party go to what's left of the parasite world, encounter the protagonists creator who deems them effectively a failure and tries to (i think?) reclaim the soul he had gifted him in order to make him a blank slate. Possible athena .eric link there assuming she and lahabrea gifted eric a soul by literally giving a portion of their own soul to a vessel and lahabrea's shadow's reasons for taking eric was to nab the soul so athena might be able to use it and be reborn. The protagonist having learned of their origins goes through a heroic blue screen of death moment, their friends show up to free him and snap him out of it and meanwhile antagonist murders his creator, hijacks invincible and absorbs the host world souls that had been kept there which finally allows him to achieve trance. another possible athena link for the speculation there, if the reason pandemonium arrived in the present day aetherial sea was so that athena could feed on the souls there to achieve godhood.

Anagnorisis is the point in a plot, especially of a tragedy, at which the protagonist recognizes his or her or some other character's true identity or discovers the true nature of his or her own situation. Given all that is revealed in Elpis -- particularly things that were never addressed before this point like what caused the End of Days -- this being the name of the place you arrive is an absolutely perfect choice.

I enjoyed the longer video. I probably would have enjoyed the double length version with the extra ramblings as well.

I still remember the anastasis prediction from the last video months ago, given how the story has developed, we could have an Athena resurrection thing going. Not sure about the resurrecting lahabrea from ascalon thing although with the azyz lla mention, it could be a route they take. Then again the devs sometimes love to subvert expectations such as how the Eden raid series didn't end up having an Ultimecia final enemy so by now anything's possible.

Eden's Promise was technically Ultimecia (called "Artemisia" in JP) in idea, as the combined form of Artemis and Gaia.

Amazing review Matt. I loved the raid but didn't expect it went this deep. I love having my eyes opened when I feel like I'm experiencing a great story, and then discover it's actually even deeper and better than I had thought! The fact that the writers include all this depth, without forcing in your face, is a clear indication that they are masters of their craft. On the surface it's a great game and raid series, and underneath a work of art. Thx for brining this forward Matt!

So Lahabrea's research is about breaking down the barriers between souls. We see this when Lahabrea and Igeyorhm merge to become Ascian Prime. We have a very interesting half-voidsent in the form of Zero. Lahabrea's research will not only be used to seperate Zero from her void half, but also to cure voidsent and turn them back into normal beings.

i'm guessing by the end of this raid we'll see Lahabrea in a different light and see that his purpose in creating zodiark might not have been so desperate but intentional, if Ericthonios had perished as a result of Athena and pandemonium i think that grief would have swallowed him and consumed him, he might have truly believed that Zodiark was his answer to bring his son back to life. just like all the other ancients who gave their lives to sustain zodiark believed him to be their saviour and would bring their loved ones back from death. but as we know all to well eikon's do not have the power to save souls once they've departed to the aetherial realm Hydaelyn was only exception to the rule where should could ferry souls from the sea's currents ontoward a life strand as she did for Minfilia, ardbert an co., Hades, and Hythlodaeus being that she herself presided there in that realm guiding the souls of her champions to be reborn when all hope has seemed lost. the souls on zodiark's end however remained trapped in his core never knowing rest until Hermes crushes the core and sets them all free which is how Hythlodaeus was able to be called by Azem's crystal

So about ascalon. One thing to notice is that it was powered by the eye of the dragon which was taken by estinien then zenos and then destroyed. SO in theory if lahabrea was inside those eyes he should have been taken into the sea of aether at that moment.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but in the quest line for Pandaemonium as a whole, weren’t they referencing the last segment of it as Tartarus, so maybe that’s what the last wing will be called?

I think the third raid tier will be named Tartaros, because its the deepest layer of greek hell. We got asphodelos then abyssos so tartaros makes the most sense.

Hmmm I’m 90% sure the last tier would be Tartarus, since it was name dropped a few times. But otherwise, yeah I suspect Athena is involved, probably through Eric since as speculated, he is a new soul mixed from Lahabrea and Athena’s souls. There’s a good chance that Lahabrea gave Eric the crystal to suppress Athena’s half, explaining why his aether isn’t as plentiful as others, despite trying. At the end of Abyssos, Eric seemed to be able to draw more aether now. Perhaps some time in the future, he grows enough to the point where the crystal can’t suppress Athena’s half anymore. Regardless, in his present form as Claudien, the crystal is obviously not present anymore, with the memory crystal (perhaps sent by Athena) serving as a means to awaken the Athena side, despite being sundered.

Not sure if anybody else in the comments mentioned it already, but Lahabrea already mentioned the name of the third area of Pandaemonium, and thus the raid name. Pandaemonium: Tartaros.

The "if you introduce a gun it has to be shot" kind of only applies to the theater of the mind. If a sword has been removed from a dais, it doesn't mean its important to a story but explaining that it is gone within the theater of the mind makes it important. Films and videogames CAN make those aspects into minor details. A gun on a desk may tell you that the owner of the desk is paranoid and feels the need for protection. But in the theater of the mind if it is explained, then it needs to amount to a story beat. In a game or film ot could just be a small detail.

The sword is shown in an endwalker quest, so it's definitely still there. Does anyone know, has the power behind the Ascian's ability to regenerate been explored? It doesn't appear to be an Ancient's innate ability, but rather something the Ascians have used (and shared) to oversee the rejoining. If it hasn't been, then I'm going to speculate that whatever Athena is working on, results in this ability - tying the raid into the greater historical narrative. We see that Lahabrea currently deems "it" to be a detriment to the star, hence rejecting her work. But in a world where the star has been sundered and they Need to survive millennia to rejoin it, then he might very well consider it the "greater good" option.

I think the closest thing to an explaination for Ascian immortality we got was in ARR. That said, Sundered souls are said to remain whole in the Aetherial Sea, which is how you end up with people having the Echo. I think non-shard souls are implied to be more thoroughly "recycled" in comparison. We were also able to call on the souls of Hythlodaeus and Emet in Ultima Thule, despite them having already died, so it could be that they would just literally Teleport out of the Aetherial Sea if they believed they ought to do so.
@Auesis

We already know that the deepest layer of Pandemonium is called Tartaros, which is where Athena has been carrying out her most private research. What's a label for part of, if not all of the Greek underworld? Tartarus. Remember, the entire facility was deep, deep underground. While Amaurot and such lie in ruins, Pandemonium would be fine even if the entire of Elpis fell on it. Pandemonium has not been transported through time, or moved at all. It was *ALWAYS* in the aetherial sea, the bottom parts of the facility reaching deep in to the underworld while Athena researched her endgame. After her death, Claudien as Eric has pulled the rest of the facility down to complete her work.

As far as the messing we time thing....i don't think we ARE changing anything. I think it's being approached as "everything you do in the past has already happened, you just haven't gotten far enough in the future to experience it yourself yet". AKA a closed loop of sorts.
