I like how your guides are considering "combos", e.g. putting PoM on the same face button as Glare as a WHM, and Emergency Tactics on the same face btn as Adlo. You're thinking about how the user will want to use their abilities' synergies, and building a control scheme that makes it easy to execute on these synergies. Good thinking!
Very informative video, but if I may make a suggestion for Ruin II, I'd recommend putting it on a face button instead of a D-pad button because it'll be easier to move whilst pressing one of those instead of the D-pad button.
I see your point but I rarely have to use it, since slide casting is a thing which is why its not on a face button. Too many other important abilities for scholar. But nice tip!
I'm just leveling everything to lvl 50 now with the ARR MSQ being on the trust system. Meaning I'm lvl SCH. Myself, the basic damage button will always be R2+O. Usually, I move abillities around as I level, depending how comfortable I feel. Also, I have single and aoe skills in different sets, 1 for singles, 2 for aoe, 3 for the (I know there's a name for it) the one you access by double tapping L2/R2. Because of that, I have a lot of overlap between set 1 and 2. (they cycle with the R1) AoE skills/spells are also accessded with a R2+L2. One thing it is worth noting: the trust dungeons are really good to try setups/get used to changes. Sure you can practice on target dummies, but they will never make you panic when suddenly the tank died and all the aggro is on you XD
Love all these vids! It's so helpful to make my controller play easier to manage :D One suggestion though if it's not too much work, would you mind turning on the skill/spell names when you're going through the placements? I'm still a noob so have to keep flipping back between my actions screen to match the icons to the names you say. If not no big deal, thanks again for all the hard work :D
Oh that’s a good idea! I won’t be able to do it for my last two healers as the egg are already recorded and editing but I will do it for all the dps :)
Thank you for this and your cross hotbar guide. I've been maining white mage on controller but some jobs I've been having trouble with because they have so many buttons. I would just toggle between the two crossbars. I've been trying out scholar and ast but I've been put off cause I can't get an easy layout but I'm going to give this a go later :D it might make extreme trials easier! Lol
I think u messed up the left trigger 2 d pad you said deployment tactics but it’s actually indomitability if anyone else noticed that it’s missing from the list
I was a healer main from ARR-ShB and I play on controller. playing SCH on controller in ARR before the W cross hotbar was pain The thing I miss the most about SCH though was being able to command your fairy while casting, even if it was super jank
nice guide! I'm a returning healer after a long hiatus and I have to admit I forgot not only my muscle memory but the importance of many skills. So I thought it would be a nice time to re-organize my UI.
personally keep lt1 with emergency and prog as up and down, and heals to Shapes/XYBA. RT1 PAD for healing abilities pertaining to aether and XYBA to attacks. the second hotbar keep defensive/pets on the left and right is offensive buffs/panic buttons

I main SCH, went from console to PC but still use controller. It's actually really not bad, the only thing I can't fit on the front is rescue but I rarely use that and just have all buttons on one crossbar to swp to as reacue so I can just swap and press if I must pull someone. Controller gets a bad rep but honestly, even AST isn't bad if you mess with the layout to feel comfy playing cards while moving so you can always weave in a pinch.
Thanks for the video, it helps a ton for a newbie like me. And if I may ask, is there a summoner guide to compare the 2 jobs ? Peolple always tell me to play scholar and summoner at the same time, how do you setup the crossbar to make it work then ?
How do you do to move and control tye fairy with a controller? I usually dont move it at all, but at certain bosses I'm starting to see that positioning is important. I just think on a controller, pets are hard to handle.
For casual content or anything except savage you can just keep your self in the middle which usually healers need to be stationed well anyway for there aoes to hit everyone. You can also set up a pet hotbar that you can access on controller by pressing r1 and place for like boss battles in the middle of arena.
Wait how did you get l1 and r1 on seperate hotbars? All im seeing is the double tap option Edit: I jusy realized he was saying left trigger 1 not L1. Confused my weak little PlayStation brain.
I actually don't honestly. I am usually centered in the middle of the arena, and just have the fairy on me. But you can just move your limit break to the third cross hot bar for all jobs and put it there

Scrambling the skills together is apparently enough for a "good hotbar layout". I guess i should also make a video... Sry but your layout looks really bad to me. Medica, healing, mana regen and damage all in one quarter, you mention using the third hotbar for cross-class actions... why is LB and the mana regen all casters get there on bar 1 and 2 then? You don't seem to follow any rule on where to place healing skills and also where the group heals are... they are just somewhere
First off, ewww with the attitude. There is no rules, it’s personal and this works for me. People ask and I give. Hot bar 3 is for all jobs, dps healer and tank. I usually don’t have the time to respond to these types of comments but today I made time. @@BunBossFFXIV Currently having a bad time. Shouldn't take it out on you. My bad. if page 3 is for all jobs than why don't you put LB on there? Skills you can use while moving and spam shouldn't be on the directional buttons imho. Do you have "rules" across jobs? Like "this spot for the dot"?

I could potentially do that, yea and it is actually a great tip, I just have had it this way for along time and it doesnt really impede anything for my gameplay and I play ever job. but again, that is a great tip to move limit break to cross hot bar 3 and free up another space, but mostly using cross hot bar 1 for the main main abilities, so then there is less button pressing. these are just to be my personal setup which people can adjust to what they. I have a whole range of cross hot bar setups for all my healers and tanks right now and dps are coming soon so you have seen multiple, I explain that each section is for similar abilities and such
