Rizutto should come AFTER the fluoro/mono is snipped. The Rizutto finish isn’t intended to provide any additional “locking” power - that needs to be provided by whatever number of half hitches you tie. The Rizutto is merely there to create a smoother transition from the thickness of the FG down to the single line. This will cover the “bump” of the snipped fluoro/mono end and help it move through the rod guides more smoothly.
Good morning. Ive seen many versions of the fg. 1 suggests the same # of crossovers (16) then 4 alternating half hitches, a complete color changing tightening THEN doubling the length of the knot with alternating half hitches followed by a 7-10 turn rizutto. Which I use & like. The initial 4 half hitches are brought up tight to a cut & mushroomed end on the leader then proceed with the additional half hitches. What do you think? Overkill? Sometimes less is more. My last day of fishing the above method held through snags on bottom big ling cod tangled lines etc. Ever have your version slip? Thx.
morning too. I have used both FG knots as in the video. for the first knot during my use it never slipped, and the second knot is the same. but for the way of tying and strength I prefer the second knot, the first reason is that the braid grips the leader line more firmly from start to finish and the second my hands don't hurt when maintaining the PE tension for braiding. but what is clear is that during my use of the FG knot it never slipped while fishing. only broke at the leader line when getting a fish that was too big. thank you for watching this video and have a good fishing weekend friends
Hi, Pablo! It is possible to tie a FG knot with thin leader line, but I agree with you that it is difficult to do than using thick leader lines. I usually do FG knot for leader lines over 40 lbs, and I use improved slim beauty knot for leader lines under 30 lbs. With leader lines under 30 lbs, the knot bump created by the leader lines will not be a problem for the line and knots to go through the guides.
